There was some info today on CBC radio I listened to in the morning. Not sure if this was from a NS perspective, but they were talking about health coverage when you travel other provinces. It was said that in general basic coverage would be the same- your home province just covers the expense that they would if you were at home. But- some doctors charge additionally ( sounded like they do not go with the provincial fees only) - and that would not be covered. Also, ambulance services would not be covered in other provinces.
I know from Nova Scotia, that you have to have a NS healthcard in order to get homecare and it takes several weeks to get one. If this is similar in BC, it might be worth applying for one rather sooner than later? You never know if you might need nursing services to come to your home. ( i.e. for a dressing, an IV).
 
Thanks @Mrs.Anteater I'm sure I'll know more after I talk to the doctor tomorrow. Health insurance in BC and AB doesn't cover ambulance services, though they're subsidized. We were planning to land in BC. The switch might happen sooner than we had planned.

Darn fax machines. I send it requests for funding for specific students with autism to a provincial Autism Funding office. Once they lost 11 of my faxes. Now I scan and e-mail them forms.

Because it's so much more of a security risk than all those faxes they lose.
Also email is more of a concern than the glitch that prevent everyone in the province from being able to change their address and phone number that took a few escalations before they realized that was occurring.

It's a good thing most doctors are more competent than the methods within the system!

Which is fine because you are doing it so it's your responsibility if something goes awry and a Russian hacker gets your PHI. However, if a provider does it and the information goes astray, the resulting legal shitstorm would ruin some providers, hence the wide use of fax. That said, email is much more secure than it used to be due to widespread use of encryption.
 
we have this discussion all the time. Email goes to one person-perhaps more. A fax often sits in the open and any one walking by can take it. The info I send is just name and address and equipment requested. Not diagnosis, personal health care # etc.
 
I am also sending an advance hug - from NB to BC. It is 8:15 Atlantic standard Time. Hopefully Northwind is having a good sleep. I will be thinking about her throughout the day.

I went through this with Seelergirl – I know how stressful it can be – and I appreciate the role of Advocate. I was advocate for her (and several others) when needed. Now she advocates for me.

It sounds like the start of your journey had a couple of u turns and missed intersections. Good to get all that crazy stuff out of the way. Kind of like driving standard in England the first time

Now you know the road so here’s to a smooth journey with some lovely stops to check out the scenery on the way
 
I did sleep well. We went to the Ladysmith Camera club last night and met my sister there. We saw a great presentation and beautiful lyrics photos. We went to Tims afterwards and had a good chat It was nice to have the distraction then chat.

I'm not sure how I'll feel as we head to the surgeon. Reality bites sometimes. It will be good to know more. I think
 
I've just connected with a long time friend who has had breast cancer. I've also sent notes to two others. I'm appreciating my circle of support.
 
I just came back from meeting the surgeon. He spent a fair amount of time with my husband and I. It felt like he was willing to spend as much time as we needed. That was nice. I felt like I was in good hands with him. He was matter of fact and explained things well. He still needs more information and will track down the more detailed biopsy report and will talk to the radiologist. It doesn't look like lymph nodes are involved which is good. He wants to make sure that's the case. He ordered blood tests and a CT. He will order an MRI if that's indicated He couldn't give much for treatment options/ timelines until he had more info. It does look like chemo before surgery because he wants to be sure he can get rid of everything.

Looks like I'm in for quite the journey.
