How was church today?

I just watched a show on Vision t.v. about Elvis and his gospel songs. I loved it. But I had a hard time connecting that Elvis with the one I read about in the book by his wife, Priscilla. I think he was a complicated man.

I'm doing a lot of lay worship leading lately. I enjoy tackling the scripture readings...trying to understand them in historical context and then connect them in a meaningful way to present day experiences and needs. But, I miss out on my own listening and reflecting. It is always good to hear scripture from someone else's perspective as it expands one's thinking.

Simple folk don't like complex men with wiggles and shakers ... Ed Sullivan had him perform from waist up as a wasted effort for the young folk ...

Ever read any of the books entitled; The Hidden Gospel? They are deep ... not acceptable to the flat out kinds ... no curves ...

I was away from church this Sunday because we had a guest LLWL whose services I have not enjoyed in the past. She likes to do her own Children's Time as well which is usually my turf. So, it's nice to have a little break and stay in bed late.

We had the student back with us who filled in for the minister's sabbatical last spring. It was nice to see him again.

Hi

We had a good morning at Steinbach United. We had a regional choir come to join us. The choir represented about 17 different faith communities in the region. They lifted the roof with a selection of spiritual songs. Following the service we shared in a pot luck lunch. Our small space was crammed tight with friends and neighbours enjoying a strong sense of common identity and purpose.

George

two of my friends have just left our congregation. Basically it's not Christ centred enough for them. They have been attending for just over a year and took out membership and he was our temporary treasurer. They headed up a multi-faith chanting group that was meeting monthly at the church and chanted from a wide variety of religious backgrounds. I surprised they left but she wants a place grounded more firmly in tradion and Christ centred. I'm finding some dissonance as their chanting evenings have been so multifaith.

This dissonance can be disturbing to some institutionalized types ... thus Eris ...

That does seem strange, Tab. Do they plan on taking their multi-faith chanting with them? I'm trying (and failing) to imagine that possibility in, for instance, the local Free Methodists...

O yes. The chanting will continue probably at other locations. Perhaps I will hear more at church this morning.

I spent the morning on a race course wit some friends. Forget worship. I'll take adrenaline and laughs, thanks.

I don't envy anyone my morning at church. It was the annual congregational meeting, which we combine with Sunday worship. It often gets stalled, and did so very badly today, over, of all things, the parking lot. We were there until 12:30, having started at 10, followed by a lunch that was very, very over-provided, thanks to a vice-chair who is very prone to unnecessary panic...

Church for me was delightful. Beautiful day - sunshine and just below freezing. Good attendance. Seelergirl joined her father and I in our pew.
I read scripture and received compliments. Apparently my voice is clear and I enunciate well. I also remember to read slowly, pay attention to punctuation, make some eye contact. I also practice reading it out loud a few times before I leave home.
The readings were from Micah ch 6, and the beatitudes from Matthew. The sermon based on these two favourites of mine was uplifting and pertinent for the present time without mentioning a certain president. And we sang a favourite hymn :Blest are they'.
Because I was reading, I moved up to the front during the children's time. As the children got up from sitting on the carpet to go out for their classes I noticed that they left papers on the floor. Two young boys stopped long enough to pick them up and place them neatly on a chair. These boys family recently immigrated from a central American country. During the coffee time after church I got a chance to speak to their mother about how polite and helpful they were.
Our AGM will be after service a couple of weeks from now. Being on the Council I am aware of some big items coming up.
I hope it goes well and we don't leave frustrated.

Some part of the service was dedicated to "all are welcome" ... that is left somewhat in doubt with some extreme BS ... especially soude 've us ...

When entrained within a system of crazies ... act a bit odd so you fit in. The variants appear sometime as not normal ...

I loved the Bible readings today. But I am definitely feeling drained...fifth Sunday in a row leading worship. I could never be a minister. I feel absolutely wiped after. And I always worry that my messages will get worse as time goes on. I guess it resonated with a few, because a couple of people want me to e-mail a copy to them.
