@Waterfall so as not to disturb others!

Imagine what literary devices could be created to get around an eternal fear about contradicting religious eccentrics that know eternal things.

Is the Eccles thing a root cause of things getting out of the shape of a perfect circle of Eccles Ci Yah? Thus the Yah Yah Girls problem ...

I've found this in many theological, philosophical and scientific papers where the tight inner circles are distraught over being wrong about something ... the solution ... tread lightly on those pools! I readily accept being wrong to the point ... that I've begun to lose any decent sense of what's straight or went all out've shape ... thus radical indeterminacy ... that attracts uncertainty theory and the alternate exclusivity!

One has to read into such things quite deeply! And the Eccles cake is notorious in some Gael Circles ... initiated by that white haired spoiled queen!

Perhaps the greatest myth being purveyed, is that myths are just myths.
Actually, I agree. Myths are far from "just" myths. They are stories with meaning and important for that reason. The use of "myth" to just mean an untrue story is rather demeaning to the term, and I am glad it has kind of reclaimed its proper meaning of late (probably thanks to people like Joseph Campbell).

One of my favorite myths is about the mythical psyche ... with denial ... what can one think or conceive of?

The trashing and wasting of mind is emotionally up there ...

Mr Bart claims that he was Born Again -----but he isn't now -----now he is an atheist ---who is trying to peddle false Doctrine ---

this is from ------https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bart_D._Ehrman#:~:text=magna%20cum%20laude.-,Career,its%20texts%20from%20all%20error.

Ehrman tells how he was a born-again, fundamentalist Christian as a teenager.[1][4] He recounts being certain in his youthful enthusiasm that God had inspired the wording of the Bible and protected its texts from all error.[1][4] His desire to understand the original words of the Bible led him to the study of ancient languages, particularly Koine Greek, and to textual criticism. During his graduate studies, however, he became convinced that there are contradictions and discrepancies in the biblical manuscripts that could not be harmonized or reconciled:[1]

He remained a liberal Christian for 15 years, but later became an agnostic atheist after struggling with the philosophical problems of evil and suffering.

=======================================================================

Well ---he can use the words born again but I don't think for one minute that Mr Bart was a True Born Again Holy Spirit indwelled person ---because enthusiasm for God's word does not make one Born Again ------and anyone who has experienced the indwelling of the Holy Spirit and God's Blessings would never want to go revert to an Atheist -----and would never contradict God's word or say that Heaven and Hell were never mentioned in in the Old and New Testament as the Holy spirit would convict the person's conscience for going against God's word ---

So folks be careful who you listen to Folks -----take heed --Mr Bart is preaching a different gospel ---

God says this ---

Galatians 1:8-9 (AMP)

8 But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to that which we [originally] preached to you, let him be condemned to destruction!

9 As we have said before, so I now say again, if anyone is preaching to you a gospel different from that which you received [from us], let him be condemned to destruction!

Interesting to note that in all his letter, Paul says nothing about being 'born again.' Do you think that means that any talk of being 'born again' is a gospel contrary to what Paul originally proclaimed? Mayhap folks should be careful about listening to such claims as you make here.

Lots of people change their theological thinking as they progress though life experience/education.

Ehrmann is a classic case, so were Borg and Spong. So am I. I see very little movement in the other direction.

Almost everyone, as life progresses, moves from rigid to expansive thinking. There are exceptions.

The article above about Mr Bart says this -------

He recounts being certain in his youthful enthusiasm that God had inspired the wording of the Bible and protected its texts from all error.[1][4] His desire to understand the original words of the Bible led him to the study of ancient languages, particularly He recounts being certain in his youthful enthusiasm that God had inspired the wording of the Bible and protected its texts from all error.[1][4] His desire to understand the original words of the Bible led him to the study of ancient languages, particularly Koine Greek, and to textual criticism. During his graduate studies, however, he became convinced that there are contradictions and discrepanciesin the biblical manuscripts that could not be harmonized or reconciled:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This Folks is a false statement -----and for a man who says he has studies Greek --he hasn't done a great job of it or he would be able to definitely see that there is not contradictions in God's word and any scripture that seems to be a contradiction can be reconciled ----- if you do the right research which comes by way of the Holy Spirit directing that search --which this man definitely has no clue of ---God does not make mistakes or cause confusion to His Faithful followers who rely on God to give them the proper understanding of what His word says ------

So I watched a video with Mr Bart and another fellow Peter Williams who says he believes the scriptures are God's word ---but neither of them can explain the 2 different accounts of how Judas died -----

So here are the 2 Scriptures on Judas ------the first contradiction

Matthew 27 CEB

Judas’ death

3 When Judas, who betrayed Jesus, saw that Jesus was condemned to die, he felt deep regret. He returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, and 4 said, “I did wrong because I betrayed an innocent man.”

But they said, “What is that to us? That’s your problem.” 5 Judas threw the silver pieces into the temple and left. Then he went and hanged himself.

6 The chief priests picked up the silver pieces and said, “According to the Law it’s not right to put this money in the treasury. Since it was used to pay for someone’s life, it’s unclean.” 7 So they decided to use it to buy the potter’s field where strangers could be buried. 8 That’s why that field is called “Field of Blood” to this very day.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Acts 1 CEB
This was the scripture concerning Judas, who became a guide for those who arrested Jesus. 17 This happened even though he was one of us and received a share of this ministry.” (18 In fact, he bought a field with the payment he received for his injustice. Falling headfirst, he burst open in the middle and all his intestines spilled out. 19 This became known to everyone living in Jerusalem, so they called that field in their own language Hakeldama, or “Field of Blood.”)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Jesus hanged himself ---in Matthew but none of what is in Acts 1 is there and in Acts 1 none of he hanged himself is there -----and also he burst open is not in Matthew -----also in Matthew it says that the Priests bought the field and in Acts it says He bought the field ---------so Mr Bart says this cannot be reconciled -----

So lets see ----First you would have to understand where Judas would have gone to hang himself --Judas was in great agony with guilt and remorse and was driven to kill himself by the horror he was felling -----and in those times here was a valley Called Hinnom it was known as the valley of dead bones ----many child sacrifices were done in this valley -----as you will read -----also this scripture describes the valley -------

Joshua 15:8 (CEB)

8 The border went up by the valley of Ben-Hinnom to the slope of the Jebusite city, Jerusalem, on the south. The border went up to the top of the mountain that is opposite the Hinnom Valley on the west, which is at the north end of the Rephaim Valley.

Read all on this place for yourselves here -----

Another Greek word that is translated hell is "Gehenna." This word is used twelve times in the New Testament with Jesus employing it eleven times. Gehenna is derived from the Hebrew ge hinnom or the "valley of Hinnom." Hinnom was probably the name of a person in ancient Israel. The valley of Hinnom is a deep narrow glen just outside of Jerusalem. It was also called Tophet, or the valley of dead bones. Jeremiah wrote.

The whole valley where dead bodies and ashes are thrown, and all the terraces out to the Kidron Valley on the east as far as the corner of the Horse Gate, will be holy to the LORD. The city will never again be uprooted or demolished (Jeremiah 31:40).

Place Of Burning Refuse

The valley became the dumping ground for the sewage and refuse of the city. It was a place of crawling worms and maggots. By defiling this place with refuse, Josiah stopped the child sacrifices. Fires burned continually to destroy the garbage and impurities. Hence the name Gehenna came to be used as a symbol of punishment. The prophet Isaiah wrote:

And they shall go forth and look upon the corpses of the ones who have transgressed against Me. For their worm does not die, and their fire is not quenched. They shall be an abhorrence to all flesh (Isaiah 66:24).

From this valley a terrible and putrid smoke arose continually.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So Judas would have Hung himself in this valley as he would have felt that he deserved to be in this valley after betraying the only one who could have saved him -----Judas knew he was condemned to die right then ----

Matthew says this ----When Judas, who betrayed Jesus, saw that Jesus was condemned to die, he felt deep regret.

So Matthew describes how he dies --he hung himself ------So no need to tell that part in Acts as how he dies is established -----So that covers that contradiction that Mr Smart Bart couldn't rectify -----Acts covers what happened to him after he died ----his body was mangled -----

Matthew is speaking to a Jewish audience and they would have been familiar with the place that Judas hung himself so there was no need for Matthew to go into detail

and in Acts the audience was Gentiles and they would have already known that Judas would have hung himself but they would not have known about him falling head first and his middle being split open -----so the audience here is critical to understanding the 2 differences in the 2 Books -----

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The next is the field of Blood ----Who bought it ----the priests or Judas -----

Well knowing what the field of blood represents ---- you will understand ----that the Priests used blood money to buy it ----the money they gave to Judas was his money -----even though he returned it to them --they could not use it in their Holy Temple ----- so Judas was tied to the Blood money ----they used his unrighteous money to buy the field of blood ------so Judas also bought the field indirectly as they used his bloody money -----so that covers that contradiction which Mr Bart says can't be reconciled ----

Read about it here ----

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------So this is the 3rd thing that Mr Bart says can't be reconciled -------

. Falling headfirst, he burst open in the middle and all his intestines spilled out.

As he says this is not in Matthew ----and he says if the scripture were true with no flaws this would have been in Matthew as well ------and so the 2 cannot be reconciled -----

Well Folks it can be reconciled -----as we understand the place where Judas died ----the scripture says he fell headfirst ----so this indicates that he was hanging over the edge of a cliff and when the rope or branch of the tree he hung himself from gave way and he fell into the valley of dead bones where his middle burst open from the fall -------if he just fell on the ground from the tree this would not have cause him to split open nor would he have fallen head first on the ground ----he would have fallen feet first or on his side -----not head first -----

Strong's
headlong.
From pro; leaning (falling) forward ("prone"), i.e. Head foremost -- headlong.

So Mr Bart doesn't seem to do a lot of research to make his case that I see -----

Just another assumption he makes as he does with what this post is about Heaven and Hell not being mentions in the Old and New Testament ------well the valley of Hinnom does give us a glimpse of what Hell is like -----

And also what Bart misses is the fact that the 30 pieces of sliver to buy the Blood field is actually fulfilling the words of ----- Jeremiah ---Matthew 27 verse 9

9 This fulfilled the words of Jeremiah the prophet: And I took the thirty pieces of silver, the price for the one whose price had been set by some of the Israelites, 10 and I gave them for the potter’s field, as the Lord commanded me.[a]
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So I say ---this shows us that the Bible is true ----as Prophecy is being fulfilled time after time -------

Just for the record ------

I have no ---none --theological training Folks ----no degrees -----no diplomas of any kind from any college --or school of Divinity -----all I have is the Holy Spirit guiding me on this research of finding the truth behind the 2 different takes on Judas's death ------these 2 men who are suppose to be experts in Theology only need the Holy Spirit to find the truth that lies within the Scripture ------their degrees ---languages ----and all their studying could not give them the answer to reconcile the 2 scriptures on Judas ------God gets all credit for the truth reviled behind His words in Scripture -----not man

This is the video I watched ----- I am not posting the video itself --you can find it on youtube yourselves if you wish to watch it ---I am posting this -----

During the Summer of 2018, Bart D. Ehrman and Peter J. Williams joined as guests with moderator Justin Brierley on the "Unbelievable" show called "The Big Conversation," Season 2-Episode 3. The story of Jesus: Can we trust the historical reliability of the Gospels?

Have YOU studied Koine Greek? Have YOU ever looked at the original Greek wording? How can you say he's making false statements when you are clueless about the text he's talking about?

And, not just how Judas may have died,, but the 2 differing accounts of the Ascension, in Luke 24, and Act 1, BOTH BY THE SAME AUTHOR. How do you explain the differences between those 2 DIFFERING accounts?

Redbaron ---you sound a little frustrated ----and angered ------

James 1:19 says ----
ERV
My dear brothers and sisters, always be more willing to listen than to speak. Keep control of your anger.

Your Mr Bart is suppose to be fluent in the original Greek ----and it did nothing for him to give the answer to his own question of reconciliation for the 2 scriptures ----The Holy Spirit knows all languages and where to fine the right answers in scriptures not any man driven by his own thinking ---so you can get angered all you want but your great Mr Bart may think he is right in all he says but the scriptures proves him wrong -------

Heaven and Hell are both mentioned in Scripture and as a matter of fact Jesus talks more about Hell then He does Heaven -----and Bart says Jesus doesn't mention Hell or Heaven and that is False -----

The reason that his knowledge of Greek did not give him the answer to reconciling the two scriptures in question is that the 2 passages cannot be reconciled. Dr. Ehrman has spent years studying Greek, New Testament, and history of the time. You have not. Period.

And stop hiding behind the Holy Spirit to try to bolster your flimsy arguments.

And how about those two differing Ascension accounts written by the same author? Can you explain why they are different?

unsafe, are you reading the book?

If not, I'm going to invite you to step away, please.

This is a book study about a specific book by a specific author, Bart Ehrmann. His personal beliefs have little to nothing to do with what he writes.

Wrong thread, Bette. This is the thread in R&F about the book study, not the book study itself. This one is an open discussion and if unsafe wants to warn us about how misguided we are to be studying Dr. Ehrman's work, this is where it should happen.

There's even a third differing account within the Gospel of Judas......

Redbaron ----you said ----and stop hiding behind the Holy Spirit to try to bolster your flimsy arguments.

LOL ----The Holy Spirit dwells in me there Redbaron he is part of me ---so I can't hide behind the Holy spirit -----that is just your ignorance of who the Holy Spirit is and your unbelief as to what the scripture really is saying that the Holy Spirit helps true Christ-ians do -----

I am having good success in relying on the Holy Spirit to direct me with scripture -----so I will continue to do as I am doing ---Mr Bart would be better off taking direction from the Holy Spirit than taking direction from John Dominic Crossan whom he mentions in the video I watched --

Mr Bart and this Peter Williams both these guys who say they study the scriptures need to pay attention to this Scripture --in my opinion --they might do better in debating Contradictions which are nil in scripture ----pay attention to verse 26 Folks ----

1 John 2:24-27 (CEV)

24 Keep thinking about the message you first heard, and you will always be one in your heart with the Son and with the Father. 25 The Son[a] has promised us[b] eternal life.

26 I am writing to warn you about those people who are misleading you.

27 But Christ has blessed you with the Holy Spirit.[c]
Now the Spirit stays in you, and you don’t need any teachers. The Spirit is truthful and teaches you everything.

So stay one in your heart with Christ, just as the Spirit has taught you to do.

Is one who claims an exclusive spirit somewhat anti humble in the word? This can get ethereal and vacuous ...

WOW !!!!!!!!! just got into 3 min of the video and who comes up along with Bart's narrative ----his good old buddy ----who he listens to and relies on for his beliefs ------John Dominic Crossan ---enough said there ---False Doctrine folks -----Satan parades as an angel of light ----
