How old were you when you noticed your first grey hair?

another person with multicoloured hair :3 Nutmeg has multicoloured hair as well
Most of my hair is pretty dark. Chestnut brown. You can tell both Chemguy and I are carriers of the redhead gene(s) though. His hair is lighter than mine, I doubt you could find any black hairs on his head, whereas I have a few that can be found if you search for them.

I can't remember my mother not having salt-and-pepper coloured hair, more salt when she died at 40. My younger sister had jet black hair as a child and it was almost white by the time she was 20 - probably a genetic trait.

I think my hair (blond child gradually turning to dark brown by my second pregnancy) started showing some white in my 40s, and now is probably more grey than brown in my 70s.

Pictures of my Dad in his 30 show him almost bald on top, and with just a rim of grey hair around the sides and back by his death at 56. Seelerman's hair was thinning by 40 and is very thin on top now, and our son is balder than his father.

Who knows what colour Seelergirl's hair might be. She was blond, but she started highlights as a young adult. I suspected it darkened with time, but she still prefers blond so we might never know if there is some grey or white in there.

I have had a smattering of them in my beard and chest hair since probably my early forties or even late thirties (I turn 50 next year). Now I would have to say that my beard and chest are "salt and pepper". Hair on my head is largely still original colour, there's just a lot less of it (hair loss is endemic in my family, though it skipped over Dad).

Not sure when they first started showing up - but production is certainly ramping up in the past year or so! I like them - I call them my 'silver highlights' And I'm proud that I've "earned" every one! I don't dye my hair - and don't plan to - so much trouble & health concern too, not to mention the crazy expense!

My daughter has had colourful hair since her teen years - long, short, blue, pink, green, purple - I usually helped her to dye it. Now she's out of that phase, for a while it will be blonde, then dark, maybe black, then brown ... brown at the moment I think! There's an older woman (maybe late 70s) in my church who often has a coloured streak in her hair - often pink!

I was in my early 40's when I noticed some white hairs in with my blonde ones.

God coloured my hair with blonde highlights all my life until then, and now I pay for a stylist to do it.

(But I still love being blonde and it still looks great on me.
But I imagine that by the time I'm in my 70's, I'll want my natural white hair.)

I suppose I was around 45.

A co-worker commented to me today that my hair has gone all grey - and suggested that I colour it.

What do you think - shall I colour - and - if so - what hue?

Hard to say since I've never seen you in person (I wasn't at the Five Oaks picnic). I'm not doing anything with my beard, just letting it go. Looks kind of distinguished on me.

I have no problem with my hair colour (the course texture is annoying) but my mom keeps asking when I'm going to dye my hair. I have no interest and have never done so.

First grey hair at 16. I actually have a full head of silver hair at 55. I've been 'colour enhancing" since last Sept. I hadn't dyed it for 14 years.

It's genetic-funny how our bodies work Early grey in my family but late onset menopause. Still cycling at 55.

I started getting a few pure white hairs when I was about 20, I now have noticeable pale streaks at my temples and in my bangs

Probably my 40's, but I don't really remember. I thought I'd never dye my hair, but when I started to look much older than I wanted to, I changed my mind. Now I get it dyed or spruced up every 6 weeks. Vain, huh?

I had a grandfather who (I've been told) had a full head of black hair and a bushy red beard. Strange isn't it? I think the beard turned white before the head.

What is "colour enhancing", Tabitha?

I don't think it is vain, Nancy . . . I think it is about feeling good - which can be tied to whether or not we feel we look good.

I noticed my first grey hair when I was 23, which coincidentally was also the age that my father and brother first noticed their own grey hairs. My dad was quite grey by the time he was my age (40) but I'm not very grey at all. I most definitely have noticeable greys, but they are individual hairs not streaks. My brother is 38 and he's not very grey yet, either, but in his case his hair has opted to disappear instead of continuing to change colour. LOL I should probably add that my mom doesn't have any grey to speak of at all.
