Walking in the woods won't take off 25 pounds in six months (been there, done that), amigo. Time to put some biking or a workout into that mix.

Thanks for the encouragement Mendalla. I guess it depends on how aggressive one is in their walking. I do have a bike in the garage - with a flat tire. Once the weather warms up a bit I'll be swimming in our unheated backyard pool.

I walk a lot, more recently since I got my new "barefoot" shoes. I 'walk' with crazy Lucy, a hound/collie/husky X, which requires considerable strength and attention.

I've been doing yoga for a few years, but recently dropped it in favour of a return to taoist tai chi. I see a Chinese doctor and while having a treatment a couple of months ago, I figured it was a bit foolish paying her monthly to get all my chi aligned, and then not doing the one exercise designed to keep it flowing properly. I like the local group, and they moved to a more convenient location a few years ago.

I'm working on that idea of mixing it up. Over 3+ years, my choices evolve. I have a Playstation 3, with a Move controller, so I've used a workout program on there that actually helped me lose 25lbs. It works well enough, but it worked with my schedule and that made all the difference. Added to that is walking, some gym stuff including yoga classes and a bit of biking.
I started going to the gym more, for gym dates with my sweetheart - not that romantic, but supportive anyway. I began running, which was a complete shock, but hey - there comes a time when walking isn't enough. Also weights on machines - that was a good start.
Now, we're at a better gym - no yoga so far, but better weights and I added a rowing machine - whoohoo - that is making a huge difference, but I use it hard for 10 min. Finally some shape is showing up in good places. Still using the PS3 sometimes - home life is different than before so the schedule is out of whack.

Thanks for listening ;) Haha! It has been a good development in my world.

I tried TRX this year too! and I really liked it. Our instructor set us up with circuits-so we moved stations. Triceps, biceps, squats, side plank etc.
Chemgal-try Kelsey Wilson for private yoga. She also teaches yoga for runners and pre-natal yoga-and is a gentle soul-and bonus-Her mom is an OT
You should be able to get her contact info from Facebook

Thanks Tabitha. I connected with her earlier, she wasn't really sure about what was available in my area. Now that I'm a bit healthier traveling a little further might be worthwhile.

Chemgal-ask her to come to your house and do an individual session to start! You can use me as a reference.

I biked to church today. (and home) I'm trying to do that at least twice a month-both for my body and for the planet.

Hmm...that's what I'd like to incorporate - some biking - with the dog. Problem is, first summer I had her, we did a fair bit of biking, with some success; the following summer, for some reason, she'd developed some aggression against the bike that I couldn't seem to get her over. I'm not a really confident rider, and she's a strong fast dog. So I dropped it and haven't tried again this summer. I'm thinking of investing in a rear wheel lead/harness system.

i'm truly horrible with exercise

but fear of death is a great motivator for me :3 (body horror)

since my bunged up bum condition incident, i've been, daily, even if i don't feel like it, going for an hour long walk (or as long as it takes) through the local forest

there was a time when i couldn't go 1 day without physical exercise; otherwise, i would feel ill

I took up cycling a few years ago after many years away from it. We have some great bike paths in Niagara that I make pretty good use of spring, summer and fall.

My main exercise is walking out of necessity. I need to get in a bit better shape, but I was told that I probably burn twice as much energy than average walking because of balance issues, and just extra exertion coordinating myself. I am supposed to vary my types of exercise so I don't underuse and overuse certain muscles. I have strong arms because I am always using them to compensate for my balance, reaching for things, etc. I rely on them a bit more than average. My lower calves and ankles are too weak lately.

We have a little excercise room in the building (they converted a ground floor apartment, with a weight machine, a stair master, and a couple of stationary bikes. For the high rent we pay- I should use it but I think I've been there twice. One time I left after 10 minutes because a fitness buff couple was in there in coordinated spandex lifting weights and I was in pj pants and an old t-shirt I think, the bike was facing them, and I felt stupid.

Swimming would be ideal for me and I don't have a great excuse not to.

We were sent a wii machine, a hand me down, from family. I played it a few times- and my husband is pretty althletic- but even he discovered that you can stay on the couch and play tennis. You don't have to stand up and move. Lol! So, he is getting hooked on couch tennis. He's nearly whapped me while I'm sitting beside him, posting.

I walk, bike and kayak. Also do a lot of gardening, but that doesn't burn very many calories.
Have an elliptical trainer for the winter months.

I'm sadly out of shape and no example to anyone. But, on the International Bridge Walk on Saturday (which I walked with my 80 year old Mom), I met a lady who must be in her 70s who is a regular marathon competitor. Very inspiring.

I have not heard of the international bridge walk. Any bridge?
It's the bridge between Sault Ste. Marie Ontario and Sault Ste. Marie Michigan. It is a tradition that the two cities join together to walk the bridge on the Saturday closest to July 1st and July 4th. I really enjoy it. For me (a teacher) it signifies the beginning of my holiday too! So that's a bonus.
