Alberta finally got their act together, nothing is really all that different. I can get it late Oct. Chemguy in Dec.
I think I need to discuss with a doctor more. May try to alter things a bit to access Evusheld, that works well against Omicron too.

Me too. I had three Pfizer shots and no side effects. I am not trying Moderna if I can get Pfizer.
My coworker had her booster yesterday and is off sick today. She is not the type to call in sick if she isn’t.
I did better with Pfizer but it could be the dose was lower. Moderna gave better protection. I am more concerned about timing/strains though. So if Moderna's newest one (awaiting Health Canada approval) is actually out in pharmacies before this Pfizer one I'm not picky.

I've had two Pfizer, two Moderna, no difference in side effects. We won't talk about the fact that I managed to acquire COVID within a few days of my second, bivalent, booster. *sigh*

I hadn't realized that timeframe for you. Sucks more time hadn't passed where you would have likely been less sick. Still so far you're still feeling relatively well?

Moderna is out here in NS since a week or two.

Maybe a summary of what's out there is helpful.

Moderna/SpikeVax bivalent- has original and Omicron BA.1 mRNA sequences. Status - currently in use in Canada

Pfizer bivalent has original and Omicron BA.4&5 mRNA sequences - recently approved not yet delivered to Canada

Moderna bivalent original and Omicron BA.4&5 mRNA sequences. Still being reviewed by Health Canada

For the last two vaccines it's 2 mRNA sequences, the Omicron one is a sequence that is common to the BA.4 and BA.5 variants.

And then we still have a number of monovalent vaccines that are in use too. From what I understand anyone who hasn't completed a primary series needs to do so with monovalent vaccines before getting a bivalent booster (double check in your own province for confirmation on that).

I'll get whatever is offered when I am eligible. So far I've had four Moderna shots. I expect this area will do Moderna again.

I will definitely do bivalent, I would rather wait an extra week or something if it's one's not available as soon as I try to get it.
I would also prefer to have one of the BA.4/5 ones as I think over the next few months that is likely to help the most. Will see what the timeframe of those are, but I suspect Pfizer at least should be available by the time I can get one.

I can get one later this month. One specialist suggested I wait for 5 months (would put me right around Christmas) but then changed his mind to November. I suspect if I polled all of my specialists I would have multipole answers regarding a timeframe.
If I hadn't gotten my 5th dose this summer, I would have gone with the BA.1 one right away.

Ty for posting this valuable info

I will admit when I first read it I got triggered and got mentally discombobulated lol

I'm trying for Moderna for feelings, really--I want to use what I have already been used in me.

You're in the US, correct? They jumped to the BA4/5 ones right away so there Moderna and Pfizer bivalents are really similar. There is no BA.1 being used there that I'm aware of. If you like to stick with one brand as long as it's available that's not a problem.

I haven't even got my fourth yet. Have to wait out my 6-month post-COVID break it appears, though technically I could use my diabetes to justify going 3 months. However, with my sugars in control and no real major issues with my run-in with the virus, I am thinking that I am not really high risk. I am guessing that the "high risk" diabetics are probably ones with poorer control and in worse condition.

One of the guys at work is working from home due to his wife (a hospital nurse) testing positive even though he is negative. Not techically required anymore in Ontario but I appreciate him acting out of caution. Apparently even she was not especially ill.

I'm clear, but don't know if I'll ever stop coughing. I'll have to go and get some codeine cough syrup to keep it down to a dull roar at work.

I'm hearing that a lot from people who are getting over Omicron. My wife and I both had lingering coughs, hers worse than mine. I think mine lasted maybe 3 weeks, hers more like 6-8.
