This speaks to both the inequities in vaccination rates globally, but also, how Canada has surged ahead.
These numbers are first dose as a % of overall population.
You can see the rapid rise (by how steep the curve is) in April and May.


Now, look at second dose curves



Although we are not in first place, you can see from June forward the curve just takes off. Canada is staged to pass the US in second doses, and unless things change drastically, the United Kingdom soon thereafter.

What a change from where we thought we would be in the summer.
Thankful to those who negotiated the purchase orders and the logistics who got these vaccines in, the staff who setup vaccination clinics, the hR folks and orgs that onboarded them.

There will always be questions of could it have happened earlier, or should we have done the sectors in the order they were done; however, there is no question that the rollout is working.

I am hosting a gathering at our house this weekend.

About 6 women, and we planned to sit outside but the rain has created a mosquito problem

We are now more likely to sit in a large screened in room, so good airovement.

But....I have asked people to advise me their vaccination status. It's odd, but personally, I feel it is important for folks to know.

If any are antivax folks, I don't want them present. If anyone cannot get a vaccination due to health conditions we will figure out best approach

Another thing to consider is medical treatments. I know someone who uses a biologic, got both doses of vaccine (unsure which of the 2 mRNA) and didn't produce significant antibodies. You likely know amongst a small group of friends if someone has a serious condition, but not all doctors are great about communicating about treatments and how they effect things.

We've had the Pfizer vaccine since early January and a whopping 27% of our county's residents have now been vaccinated! Sigh, well that's more than other nearby counties. So a mass outbreak of the D variant is expected this Fall and the vaccine is no longer a safe subject to bring up around here.

Sadly often for those who don't have a choice. Many of those at highest risk get less protection from the vaccines.

I suspect that will ease with time. I did see discussions thought with 40 somethings on facebook who had AZ as their 1st dose and were debating on what to do for their 2nd, and travel was a factor. Discussion about if mix and match would be acceptable, or if countries would want to see at last 1 mRNA dose as AZ is less effective, plus potential risks of sticking with AZ.

It is becoming a mess, actually. Princess will accept mixed mRNA brands but not AZ+mRNA but Norwegian won't accept even mixed mRNA. Which worries me since I am in the mRNA mixed brand group. Haven't heard from Carnival, my preferred brand, but they own Princess so I hope they follow the same rules.

The real problem here is governments do not seem to be moving on global rules for vaccine passports so everyone is making them up based on their country's approved vaccines and protocols. The US did not approve AZ or mixing so US companies are taking that to mean that people vaccinated with AZ or a mixed protocol don't count as "fully vaccinated" even though no one has actually set out a formal rule yet.
