Grabbing info from yesterday, before todays ends up on the AB site:
  • 4,266,408 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Alberta
  • 72.7 percent of 12+ population has received at least one dose (61.8% total population)
  • 40.7 percent of 12+ population fully vaccinated (34.6% total population)

Ugh, they are changing how they report the % vaccinated here. AB was using 2021 population data, we are now going to match the rest of the country and use old population data. Falsely inflates the number vaccinated. It's also the last scheduled update.

Are they showing the difference in rates between places like Edmonton where the rates are higher and Grande Prairie where there is a lower percentage vaccinated?

Yes, rates are shown for each subzone, broken down by age.

Looked at the AB STats page today....
THe gap between doses received and doses adminstered has been widening steadily since the announcement that the threshold for Stage 3 (70% of eligible with one dose) and has increased substantially in the last week of June. Percentage of people dosed has flattened out.

I suspect once stage 3 was reached all those vaccine hesitant folk were comfortable not worrying about second dose

And right now the number has only gone up to 73.4/62.4 ones dose and 48.4/41.1 fully vaccinated. definite plateauing

Some of it has been large deliveries but I agree there's a major slow down, especially with 1st doses.
Issue here with 2nd doses is lack of Moderna, so the eligible kids have issue with access, hopefully that will change soon.
Was in the emergency room yesterday, they required me to remove my mask and not just double up, not sure why.

Did you ask why?

Apparently, Britain is just completely opening up, like a metaphorical FU to the virus. Just from lockdown, almost to nothing. No limits to gatherings, no masks, etc. I'm glad I'm not there. I'm glad I don't have a new baby there, and I feel for my cousin's daughter, who does.

I like scientific measurements of how to stage back into "normal". I like "what percentage fully vaccinated, cases under X per 1000" etc.

I also like stages, with objectives, to determine "where we're at". If you have increasing case #s, you rethink it. Health Units should be the driver of this

I also like balance like hey, let's all wear masks indoors as much as is reasonable while opening up so we can test a few variables at a time, instead of dropping pretty much everything all at once.

We don't seem to be lagging behind other provinces though. BC - QC all got deliveries on the 2nd. BC also got a delivery today. (Can only base this on what's reported) The utilization ratios are similar, with QC being the worst. BC actually seems to be the one behind on getting deliveries right now- ie. highest percent used, but lower in terms of doses per 100k administered.

So while the gap of what's being used in AB has expanded, we're not very different from other places. Further East actually has the largest gaps - and they had just as much time as everyone else (deliveries reported on the 2nd).

My immediate area surpassed the 50% of those eligible to be vaccinated! Hopefully 50% of all will be coming soon, the kids 2nd doses are a big factor to that.

Was just curious, looking into some provincial data. High Level is lagging in vaccination rates - but there's some information lacking as there's this disclaimer:
Note: COVID-19 vaccine doses for all First Nations are included in the overall provincial totals. However, these totals do not necessarily appear in the LGA map. First Nations with data sharing agreements with Alberta Health are included in LGA totals. First Nations without data sharing agreements are not reflected in individual LGAs.

With how remote some of those areas are I was wondering how bad COVID was. Umm gee, even with the lack of data I think the 'herd immunity' will come from virus exposure. Over 50% of the population up there has had COVID  - and considering the access problems, I think the testing up there likely didn't cover a good number of cases.
Comparing that to my area, it's just under 10% who have had COVID.

THat area of the province also has a large number of Mennonite and Hutterite communities that are well-known for being heavily vaccine resistant and likely a good number of milder cases were not tested.

Greece has mandatory vaccinations for staff working in the health system, France now as well ( loosing their job if they are not vaccinated by September). Germany is discussing mandatory vaccinations for teachers and daycare staff.
My mother‘s nursing home has only a vaccination rate of 56% in staff, about 85 % in residents. However, every staff member has to come earlier to do a daily covid quick test, every resident gets tested twice a week.

Sigh Chemguy has to work in an area with a relatively low vaccination rate this week. Probably no masking there. At least the immediate area has no active known covid cases, but the larger area stats have some.
The location here decided to keep masking in place until the end of July. As far as we know all the regulars there want to be vaccinated and end of July should allow everyone there to hit 2nd dose + 2 weeks.

Looking at the data, it's probably safer now than prior to when the Alberta masking law was put in. Distancing at work was at least encouraged though. I'm guessing that has been dropped in the area.
