Covid 19 Vaccine

I came across this in my reading.........

"We are justified in feeling threatened by the unlimited expansion of industry, and we are justified in fearing that our interests are secondary to corporate interests. But refusal of vaccination undermines a system that is not actually typical of capitalism. It is a system in which both the burdens and the benefits are shared across the entire population. Vaccination allows us to use the products of capitalism for purposes that are counter to the pressures of capital."

Sask is getting less for now too. Why do this to provinces currently being hit hard and that are doing a good job of using the vaccine? If there are delays maybe focus on those who are using under 70%.

I wonder if this will lead to more changes to the dosing schedule. I think this may actually led us a step closer towards individualizing how we manage vaccines - different schedules for different populations.

@Northwind you may be interested in this with some of the meds you take.

I actually think I will stick with the general population if given the option for a shorter timeframe between doses vs. the longer if they make that possible for those with chronic conditions - assuming I even get 1!

I am interested in that. Thanks. I like that they are delaying the second dose to get more people protected. That seems to be a good approach for likely the majority of people. I hope there's some flexibility so those who need the second dose can get it.

I can't remember if I've shared this one before. This is another article showing that research finding. Cancer patients and covid vaccine

Has Alberta done anything to accommodate people who are clinically vulnerable?

Not totally, this is pretty new data. I suspect it will come from NACI first and then an adjustment will be made. Alberta did stick to the 3-4 week schedule for those who were in long term care and everyone who was booked on or before March 10 had the shorter extension scheduled dose (was it 40 days?) - they have 2nd appointments scheduled. That was for everyone in phase 1 as long as they didn't wait to book until booking opened for those in phase 2. For now everyone in phase 2 is planned to be on a 4 month schedule, and 2nd doses are not scheduled. It was also recommended those who fit both into phase 2B and phase 2D (early AstraZeneca group) wait for phase 2B and not actually get the AstraZeneca, although it was their choice and the criteria for 2B wasn't yet announced when booking opened for 2D which made that complicated. eg. Someone who is 62 and had their spleen removed wouldn't know if they were in phase 2B for certain back then, some of them would have opted for an earlier AstraZeneca appointment, while others would have waited to get the Modern/Pfizer - booking expected to start in April.

Earlier you had mentioned there was information that people with cancer likely needed 2 doses for decent protection, nothing about the decrease within the extended scheduling that's being used though. No link at the time.

I included it in my response to you.

So it sounds like Alberta is using age based criteria only. BC is doing mostly age based. The category "Extremely Clinically Vulnerable" is in phase three (starting now or soon) no matter their age.

No, phase 1A and B were split by living situation and health care workers were included in there too. Phase 2B is chronic health conditions. Phase 2C is based on living situation (homeless, group homes) as well as caregivers - workers and guardians to those under 16 with chronic conditions.

Here's the page with the details, it's hard to cover it all without directly breaking it all down one by one and then you may as well just look at this:

Hi folks, I've decided to stop watching the covid threads in part, I want my attention to go elsewhere for a while. In part, I just need a break from the thread(s).
I'm feeling I just need a break from all the threads........
It seems to me this site is becoming yet another social media on steroids.
By that I mean it's combative (and there have been times when I'm guilty of that), lacking in nuance and balance - black or white thinking on so many issues.

Most threads are dominated by those with an agenda, with scant interest in seriously considering another point of view.
(I mean just how many times can we state whether we're in favour of masks, lockdown, etc etc)

There is so much anger, and so little humour and wit.........

Humor and wit are on the other side of the dark mire --- Gods dark side having been sub dude by humanitarian hostilities!

I'm finding this true in general on more internet sites that I use/visit; and I have a sense of this in the general media too - so much negativity. I think the relentless tedium of COVID has made us crankier than usual.

With a permanent ignore state an much denied ... what happens with the pain of learning ... nothing gets through ... and there we stand in it ... the state of nothing ... is there something to place? Po' Ethically of course ... the moral case of the mortal case will overcome as Mortices Nerd!

I find some of the comments in here are difficult to support. The 4 months decision was made with no data on the 2nd dose being extendedthat far with Covid vaccines, we still don't have it from what I've seen. There is data on a single dose and how that effects populations differently but we shouldn't make decisions on that?
