we don’t have vaccines. Mid level countries are beating us. We are falling rapidly behind the USA in protection

Am I the only one who is asking that the beat the government stuff and personal attacks stay on the Trudeau thread?

I thought this thread was actually about the vaccine.....take politics to politics.

I don't think we can discuss vaccine distribution, though, without touching on the politics of it and the problems arising from those politics. By that standard, discussion of the ethics of vaccine distribution and whether governments are following those principles could get punted to politics as well if that involved criticizing Trudeau or Ford or whomever and I think those conversations belong here.

Back to vaccinations, Ontario gave more details on phase 2, specifically timelines around age-related vaccination and when various age groups between 60 and 79 (80 and over are in phase 1) can expect to get their shots. However, still no timelines for other groups included in phase 2 such as those under 60 with high risk chronic conditions or those living in higher risk areas will be done.

With people 60-64 not being done until July, that makes it pretty clear that general rollout isn't happening until at least August.

I'm not happy with the way it was handled, and this government handled it.

But with everything going on south of the border over the past 5 years they were pretty busy and I don't think anyone specifically saw this coming. They saw other things coming, but not this. Everybody's been working via trial by fire, in every country, on all aspects of covid. Granted, several have done better at it.

The US secured their supply and didn't want to share, right? I can't imagine it was easy negotiating with Trump on anything while they were in the thick of decision making. We had a bad neighbour for 4 yrs.

I do wonder about the other vaccines coming on board, and if they will be used for the under 40's?.
Reserve the high double dose ones for the folks over 70.
Get as many as you can vaccinated as soon as possible based on which vaccines are approved and available.
Be agile in your plan so that you can respond to what hits the groun.
 
True. Why don’t they give single doses to the under 40s, or even under 30s - except for those with the types of health conditions that lead to the riskiest symptoms - so that those over 40 can get the necessary two on time? I guess since they are doing it by age, it remains to be seen if those under 40 would have two doses available in time anyway, even if they intend on giving them.
 
I didn’t receive a good answer but I did ask the health authority about why they wouldn’t concentrate at both ends of the adult age spectrum, and vaccinate the biggest spreaders. Young people in late teens and 20s that work - and some who socialize in ways they shouldn’t because they’re young and don’t get it. They’re not malicious, they just can’t comprehend mortality. They tend to test their boundaries. That’s just what they often do. Maybe they need to get the vaccinations earlier because moralizing - even the risk of big fines - won’t necessarily work on them...they are at that age where they are going to be defiant anyway so they might as well get the vaccine. It’s sort of like not giving girls birth control. Even if you’re the most well meaning but conservative and strict parent, and you warn them of all the risks, the difficulties of an unplanned pregnancy, and they vow to not have sex...good luck with that!

Here we’ve got people freaking out about mandatory vaccines and being microchipped, when the companies making the vaccines can’t even produce and get them to all the people who want them, who are practically begging for them, even if they had to pay individually for it. Not only that, but if vaccinating was actually a ploy to kill people, they’d really be giving them to the poorest people in the poorest countries first. Then the poorest people everywhere else. But “important” people already got them before they even started giving them to the public. So that fear is nonsense.

There was the story of that wealthy/ quasi celebrity or something, couple who went up north to a small town with a big indigenous population - can’t remember exactly where - and pretended to be temporary health care workers or something - so they could jump the queue and be vaccinated. So, no, it’s not a ploy to kill people...it needs to happen as fast as possible, to save people.

It's in the plans here, but April at the earliest. Phase 2B

The answer is probably that these people are not that likely to get the vaccine, so they continue spreading.
 
Today I am baby sitt8ng for my niece as she is getting her first vaccine. Our health unit has finished LTC patients and staff and is moving on to hospital staff so she is up. I expect her hubby, OPP, will be shortly.

now we just need the rest of the vaccines
