Covid 19 Vaccine

I'm going to wait for this one for booster #2, and then, two weeks later, as long as I'm feeling well, I'm de-masking.
I will take it situation by situation with a fair bit of masking in public indoor spaces, but I also am not working in a public area. I can understand the desire to not have on one for hours at a time. The dermatology clinic I go to it's still required by them although they do not strongly enforce it.

I expect to continue to wear it in (some) health care situations. I'm still wearing it at the dentist's (until we get into our room) and the chiropractor's, the doctor's office.

I'm not a very "decorative" type person, but I do wear lipstick as my only make-up, and wear earrings as my only jewellery (except for a cross sometimes; situation-dependent); neither work with a mask.

Probably works better with studs than danglies. I've almost lost a couple of danglies while taking mask off and on.

Some info on the vaccines.

I didn't mention it earlier but I did find it interesting the US is planning on skipping over the BA.1 bivalent vaccine Moderna is making and is waiting on BA.4/BA.5 ones from Moderna and Pfizer.
I'm not sure what the timeframe will be like for here, if the expectation will be for people to get both or not. It may add some complexity to decisions and timing, similar to 2nd boosters that we are seeing now.

The ideal is competition ... down to earth cooperation is for the birds and even they are not impeccable! Life is far from perfect ... all ab abstract state ... far from here and now ...

I am surprised it took this long, but I guess no one wanted to look like a money-grubbing worm while the pandemic was still a concern. An IP suit over new technology is hardly news but somehow this one feels even more opportunistic than most.

There has been a lot of dispute about who is responsible for the mRNA technique. It seems that various people & companies have worked on it.

Related: Just got a notice to register for the next Covid vaccine. The email didn’t say if it was the new “bivalent” (also acts against Omicron). I assume it is, as approval in Canada is near. Approved in the US.

Might want to wait until the government or health unit actually confirms they are using bivalent. The bivalent approval is coming this week I am hearing but then distribution might take some time. Right now, you'd still be getting a booster of the original AFAIK.

It's a good idea to get COVID-19 booster shot now, not wait for next version, says virologist

You’re right. An article from Saskatchewan confirms it. As far as I can see the old version is useless.

What the US approved is not the same as what Canada approved.

The US also approved Pfizer’s vaccine. I expect Canada will also. Or is there more to this? I haven’t followed it closely.
They target different subvariants. There is both a Moderna and a Pfizer vaccine that target the BA.4 & BA.5 variants. The one approved today is for BA.1
My next dose may end up being that, will have to wait to see what the plan is. Canada will be looking at both of those in addition to what was approved today.

noted - changed that from variants to subvariants.
These ones are all more likely to work for all Omicron variants than the original vaccines we had.

That's interesting, about the different variants included in the different countries. Wonder why that is? Did they say?

This one was available sooner, the US decided to skip it. My understand is the US approved what they did with less evidence, they used typical procedures that are used to update the flu shot every year.

Is the B1 dominant in Canada or the B5?

BA.4 and BA.5 both are the most dominant ones currently. BA.1 was the one in Dec and Jan if I recall correctly.
Basically the US was on track to do the one we have now, but with the mutations to the Omicron subvariants they basically said forget it, we want something newer we're not even going to waste our time reviewing the one for BA.1. Canada and the UK stuck with going with the BA.1 vaccine first.

That's what I thought...so how is Canadas vaccine going to be useful do you think?
