Covid 19 Vaccine

Just booked my fourth shot for mid May. I've booked all four times online, through the local (well, 2 counties) public health agency. This time it seemed to go faster and smoother than the first 3 times. I think they're finally getting used to doing it...

I'm annoyed about 2nd boosters and how they are being handled.
Very few people here qualify for them based on medical need and a bit confusing who to even include in that as the province isn't really using the term.
Basically people 70+ who didn't need 3 for the primary series, First Nations, Inuit & Metis, same thing but for them it's 65+
People living in congregate care - I think for all of them a 4th dose is only 1 booster?

But then international travel - go ahead, and the timing between doses doesn't even need to be very spread - 28 days.
Because of the timing from his 3rd dose Chemguy may just go get a travel dose. Getting a dose now likely won't affect him for the timing of anything new.
For me, wait and see, I don't see a benefit in going before 5 months. I also don't want to drop myself out of early access if something new is available for the fall.

AB also doesn't offer antibody testing after being vaccinated, something some of the other provinces do.

Are you talking about antibody testing after the vaccines? We can't get that in BC either unless that has changed recently

My doctor at the clinic and a doctor friend both told me individual testing to see how the vaccine worked is not possible. It's all aggregate. I don't get how aggregate can happen without individual testing

I know a while back part of the problem was not having a range of when it's effective, not sure if that has changed. My guess is yes considering what they are charging. I know people were getting it done in some of the provinces fairly early on, some part of a study, some not.
Even without a clear range, I think it's still useful if comparing to what an average number is for a healthy person a few months after being vaccinated.

I'd like to know but don't want to pay. It would be great it provinces tested people in certain groups (cancer treatment, immunocompromised, elderly) to see how effective the vaccine is.

Totally agree. Earlier on the people I knew doing it weren't paying for it, but if not part of the study I think their doctor was still involved with it, so that may have helped them access.

Personally though, if I need to pay to get it done, I will if reasonable. My health benefits would likely cover it too.

I think they could also use that testing to expand Evusheld access. Absolutely start with some criteria, but when they were actually doing updates in Alberta it was a very low amount used when last discussed. I don't understand why we were just sitting on a drug.

We keep asking for more while administrators at all levels are commissioned to cut costs ... guess who wins given the large compensatory commissions? Why do we pay these folk in this manner? Shouldn't they be reimbursed on what they create?

Alberta opened up 2nd boosters tomorrow for everyone 18+ but needs to be 5 months after 1st booster. So I think that's Aug for me. Fairly all or nothing for most adults as many who qualified for a 4th dose before this likely had it as their 1st booster, although not all.

I've noticed a fairly big difference between Comirnaty (Pfizer) vs SpikeVax (Moderna). I feel quite sick, it's been too long to accurately compare that between them. Was in the basement earlier and had trouble making it back to my bed as my muscles were so fatigued. I think I have been eating less this time around.
I experienced overall pain from just feeling unwell. Arm pain directly from the shot though and that immediate not so localized pain - way less. Arm was sore pretty much immediately and the elbow on my other side got hit fast too but that never got bad. I could actually sleep on my left side. With SpikeVax I had swelling in my arm where I thought it may have actually been an HAE attack.
I'm really hoping tomorrow I start to feel a little better, am only out of bed a few hours each day.

The UK has approved Moderna's bivalent vaccine - the one we have been talking about for this fall/winter.
Hopefully by the time it's in widespread use it will still be working well against the variants that are circulating.

I'm going to wait for this one for booster #2, and then, two weeks later, as long as I'm feeling well, I'm de-masking.
