Well, exactly why I am not convinced. Though he did manage to get the socons behind him even though he is more of a centrist himself (e.g. pro-LGB, less so T, pro-choice) so must have done some horsetrading en route to the leadership. I think this is really an anti-Trudeau vote more than a pro-Poilievre one.
Bingo on your last line IMO.

Latest from a crawl on CBC is that they are expecting a swearing in at Rideau Hall at 4pm. That means the Cabinet shuffle is happening. They claim they are still going to do the economic statement but if there won't even be a finance minister until 4, it's going to be a late session.

Wow. That seems to be out of touch for some reason.

It looks like the PM hasn't shown his face at Question Period. Have I got that right?

Two ministers resigned and have to be replaced so it is absolutely necessary. I was fully expecting this.

I do realize it's necessary. I guess this is such an unusual situation it's hard to avoid wondering

Has Trudeau surfaced?

Not for the media that I have seen. There was a cabinet meeting this morning so presumably he was there.

And I would actually have been more worried if there wasn't a swearing-in planned given one of the ministers involved is Finance. The thought of Trudeau trying to go it alone on that front gives me the whillies.

For leaders that are supposed to have our nation in order ... why is it so disorderly and chaotic?

Then there are those that love dissonance so they can appear to have been the creator ... that Black Cloud is a powerful thing as a horse in the desert ...

It is a sad case of powers wishing to have permanent positions in matter that they haven't learned enough about the underlying cause in the bureaucratic process that needs considerable cooperation instead of conflict! Thus we get forced change and folk of kerygma that burn a hole in the confining chaos ...

Some powers delight in such PRO positions when they aren't ... PRO that is ... mostly CONS! Thus propositions go on ultimately in the mortal realm ... and no one appears to know what is manifest! Fallen angels??? They do come up ... often with heat in the night ...

It is about two years at leas past time for him to go.
The problem now is that the Liberals only have months to go before the next election, leaving a new leader a bit hamstrung to detach themselves from his legacy and rebuild. And if Poilievre gets his way, which is starting to look like it might be the case (the NDP is starting to cave a bit), they might only have until later this winter or spring. They might almost be best to hang on to Trudeau and accept a spell in opposition, then rebuild.

Does anyone think that the threat of huge US Tariffs will influence the election? Doug Ford is sabre-rattling....

It looks like one option involves proroguing government, having a leadership race then going straight into an election. Trudeau is likely finished. Whether he sees that or not is a question.

That would work but it basically leaves little time for the new leader to differentiate themselves from Trudeau, esp. if it is someone like Freeland or Leblanc who have been part of his team. An outsider like Carney would have an easier time in that scenario.
