Canadian election and other political stuff

In a month the entire society could bleed out and those that don't wish to know much ... well, they still wont ... or want for mores ... they don't like anything spread ... unless they own it enough so they can deny response! Culpable or gulla Bill ... perhaps a pelican in brief display as Helga? Hans on ...

He said earlier that he favoured Carney, much to Poilievre's chagrin. I would have thought having DJT's blessing would be a liability, not an asset, but that hasn't been the case for Carney so far. It ironically would push the Conservatives into a hard nationalist, anti-American position if they were going to exploit it, something that has not been the Conservative way in most of my lifetime, e.g. Mulroney started the whole free trade bandwagon.

It seems most people see his endorsement as a game of some sort. Who cares who he says he supports? How much does his word hold weight anyway.

It was interesting that the Donold X account said the phone call with Carney went well. First off, who wrote that? It wasn't the president? Second, do we believe what it says?

"The relationship Canada had with the United States is over" - Mark Carney

March 28, 2025
Montréal, Quebec

Today, the Prime Minister, Mark Carney, spoke with the President of the United States, Donald J. Trump. The Prime Minister and the President had a very constructive conversation about the relationship between our two countries.

The leaders agreed to begin comprehensive negotiations about a new economic and security relationship immediately following the election. In the interim, the leaders agreed that conversations between the Minister of International Trade and Intergovernmental Affairs and President of the King’s Privy Council for Canada, Dominic LeBlanc, and the United States Secretary of Commerce, Howard Lutnick, will intensify to address immediate concerns.

The Prime Minister told the President that he would be working hard for the next month to earn the right to represent Canada in those discussions.

The Prime Minister informed the President that his government will implement retaliatory tariffs to protect Canadian workers and our economy, following the announcement of additional U.S. trade actions on April 2, 2025.

Of course, the talks between Leblanc and Lutnick are pointless if the Liberals lose. It would have to start all over again with whoever Poilievre appoints to International Trade.

It means it’s necessary to rebuild trust and mutual respect, and therefore, it is not the same. You were waiting for him to talk to Trump, and he did. But he didn’t go to him first, in light of Trump’s behaviour towards us - and as Canada’s head representative right now Canadians expected him to stand up for our sovereignty and demand respect first, not be bullied or taken for granted as besties or passive subordinates..

Believe nothing is the word ... without question ... and are those with our mind enslaved allowed questions?

Remember that old statement about mute, blind and one legged men? I can't stand reality on their terms ... thus Laredo's treats ... screw oneself into oblivion? Some have already done that and been absolved by powers ... powers being loaded ... with the corrupt facet ... in a humble opinion it all collapses in folly ... few can see it as they believe they are the most intelligent ... counter to the evidence bottoming up when questioned ...

There ... the no question deduction ... the item proliferates as if imagined!

Gamesmanship. Our powerful former ally to the south threatened our sovereignty. Canadians will not soon forget that. We're still booing the American anthem at sporting events.

Everyone knows Trump prefers Poilievre. Everyone knows Poilievre admires Trump. Everyone knows the trucker protestors, Maple Magas and the right wing Canadian conservative Venn diagram is pretty much a circle. Everyone knows Carney will stand up to Trump more than Poilievre would.

Trump is too f***ing stupid to keep his mouth shut until after Poilievre was PM, so Poilievre looks like he will lose because of that stupidity. Trying to say he admires Carney is Trump's transparent way of trying to undo the mistake. No one believes him.

Trump would be far more dangerous if he wasn't so amazingly stupid. His lack of intelligence is a larger barrier to his agenda, which is the agenda of his benefactors, than the Democrats or any country.

Like so many others, chansen, you seem trapped in the belief that there are only two parties running in this Canadian election

The reality is that there are 5 or so parties running, but only two have a chance of forming a government. That said, if more people vote for third parties, we could at least hold whichever wins to a minority, handing some power or at least influence to those third parties.

Do only two of the parties have candidates in enough ridings?

The NDP are the other party that could challenge as well but they have the problem of their support being fairly concentrated in a few centres, making it hard to pick up enough seats to even challenge for the Official Opposition (the one time they held it was while the Liberals were down pre-Trudeau).

Not sure about the smaller parties like the Greens and People's Party. They usually run anywhere they can get candidates so probably run in enough ridings. However, those are unlikely to challenge given their support levels. Doesn't stop me from voting Green since I support a lot of their policies, but I go in knowing I am unlikely to be voting for a government.

The Bloc only runs in Quebec so cannot form a government unless the rest of the country were to be really, badly divided and they were to sweep that province. Opposition is the best they have ever managed and that was after the PCs melted down post-Mulroney.

Any party that runs enough candidates can potentially win the election and form the next government. Yet I've seen so many Canadians online, mostly on Threads, speaking as though it's a two man race - Carney vs Poilievre. It's like they want an electoral system like in the US

As someone who has rarely voted for the "big two" I know this all too well. And that's a problem that ranked ballot or proportional voting would help fix. Right now, there's a common perception that if you vote for a fourth or fifth party, you "wasted your vote" (you haven't because the more votes they get, the more credible they become). Ranked ballots or proportional votes would make those votes count a lot more, encouraging people to vote for them.

Is stupid contagious ... who in the GOP cares? Thus it catches them ... they do not control how they are got ... or gutting themselves ... Hari Kari! It is a gravid effect ...

It is the tootha Dannan ... the mule carrying us towards what ... Eire ... as that poet wrote about men going down to it ... thus that unspeakable function ... so folk will remain stunned about interplay! The highlighted has an interesting history in the UK! Like dragon flies in amber ... that yellow pool ...
