Canadian election and other political stuff

Weren’t Conservatives the loudest in trying to oust Trudeau in the first place? Now, blame him for not calling an election? Polievre was very obviously following the US political playbook - favouring a far right populist approach which more than half of Canadians don’t want. There were calls from all parties for him to step down but Conservatives hated him the loudest.

All is chaos, all is chaos ... the cry in the unknown ... because this is the best way to keep the populace from knowing right from wrong ... and not knowing is easier than learning!

Thus darkness and mystery prevails as the oncoming of an ultimate knight on a black carrier? Few see it coming ...

It always surprises me how politicians can run in any riding without actually living there. If there is an election system that goes by representatives from the local areas and not by the percentage of votes in general, it seems hypocrite to me. Germany just reformed their system because they had the the problem that it went by the direct vote ( local vote) first and then added seats to put the overall percentage right. That increased the number of MPs significantly ( over 500 I believe ). They now take the percentage as a guide first and not every one who was voted for locally will actually get in if the party overall didn’t get sufficient votes. Which means that some area representatives might not get in even though they had the majority vote. Which is important if the representative actually lives there and cares about specific issues they have locally.

I would’ve preferred that the liberals, who found themselves behind the polls would have called an election instead of denying the Democratic right of Canadians for months to hold a minority government to account.
FFS, Carney assumed office on March 9. He didn't have to call an election, but he did, 2 weeks later.

Or are you insisting that low poll numbers for Trudeau mean he should have called an election while his popularity was at its lowest? Because Stephen Harper's approval rating was sub-40% for over a year before he called an election. Where was your outrage then, Rita? I'm literally asking. Maybe you registered it on this site or its predecessor, but I can't find it on either.

Funny, I was just thinking about how Elizabeth May had to fight to get into the debates years ago - when I saw the photo of the leaders pre- debate and she wasn’t there. I wondered what she was feeling about it. Then an hour later that video of Carney being asked about it showed up. I didn’t google it.

At least - by saying he’s disappointed they’re not there he acknowledges that we need their representation in the House - he said it without saying “vote Green where they have a chance, so they have a voice.”

What questions?
Are they going to heed the concerns laid out by the UN and honour their commitments to the UNCRPD? If they can’t do that they should at least admit they’re full of it and are being lead around by a powerful lobby group that doesn’t care about disabled people’s living lives - and that puts others at risk who are also marginalized in other ways - women, indigenous people, people of colour, lgbtq+ people, poor people, unhoused people, seniors - all with higher rates of disability. Trotting out the worn out “untapped labour pool” talk is woefully insufficient. I know, I used to work in that area and I see it for what it is now. BS. Everytime they trot out that message the mainstream acts like it’s new, revolutionary or something (short memories or they didn’t care enough to notice the last dozen times it was done) - and it’s just window dressing, empty - workplaces don’t even practice what they preach and human rights tribunals are so backed up they know they can get away with it. After they pulled the Bill C7 stunt that whole “Ability Inc.” stuff just feels fake, like an excuse for slavery/ duress when our fundamental right to life has been pulled out from under us. The Accessible Canada Act won’t be fully implemented until 2050 and the $200 Canada Disability benefit won’t even get most disabled people to the poverty line. The Green Party has expressed a position closest to honouring the UNCRPD. But they aren’t being included in the debates. Nobody else is discussing disability issues. Not yet disabled and/ or poor people (which can happen to anyone) have no idea how important it is.
