We don't.

And I don't think children named Judas are at all common.

Which I find interesting, because I feel for Judas. He apparently had absolutely no choice.

I named my children for a Russian Tzar whose name I liked, and a traditional Irish girl's name. Second names were "family" names.

Which takes me to two rants.

Make your child's first name the one you intend to use, or shorten. Screw this "name them after their dad/granddad/greatgranddad" and use their second name. Screw this "John David", but we'll use "David", but for a lifetime of hospital visits you will be referred to as "John".

Spell it conventionally. I get it if there's several legit spellings, and you pick one. (I get Kathryn, Catharine, Catherine, etc.) But arbitrarily throwing vowels/letter reversals into common names is just bulls**t, and sentences them to a lifetime of administrative screw ups. If his name is Bradley, don't make it Bradely. If it's Jonathan, don't make it Johnathan.

All the Karherine variations started that way. Then there's Karen, Kaeryn, Karyn, Karin, Carin, etc.

Several men in my family have common first and middles names of biblical origin, also.

In Greek, Judas means praise. In the US, 429 babies have been named Judas since 1880. (That's nearly half the number of Egberts.) It's probably more popular in Greece.

 Ok K.... oh never mind. You people need to get a sense of humour, and relax.

Hmmmmm can I use this line with you next time you're steadfastly discussing something important to you?

This is a ridiculous discussion. Entitled peoples’ proplems. Is this the hill you want to die on? Be the people who stopped this oh so horrible practice of calling people Karen?

And can we challenge you on your hills?

Oh right. This is a group of boomers and we know boomers f***ed up the world

Okay, if you can’t understand why it’s used and laugh it off without crying foul - then I’ll make this important to me, from the opposite position.

Ha, coincidence - I didn’t even read this until now! My sentiments almost verbatim:

-In the never-ending saga of ridiculous hills to die on, this one feels particularly silly. In fact, it feels conceited, telling women of colour by the thousands: You don’t know what real feminism is, what real sexism is, what being a woman is. And I’m here to school you.

-... Just like gammon, or “ok boomer”, this joke is about as serious as a TikTok dance challenge. So please, let’s stop being Karens about it, ok?

Opinion: Karen is not the equivalent of the N-word for white women. If you’re offended, you might be one

All white women have some Karen in us, whether that’s the name their parents gave them or not. Confronting that is part of anti-racism. It’s become a descriptor whether we like it or not. And it’s irrelevant whether we like it or not. That’s the point. Complaining about is an arrogant, entitled little aggression in relation to what it represents. So we have to separate the common noun from the proper noun and stop being Karens. If we can’t because we’re indignant and/ or offended, the description fits and we’re still an impediment to change.

What I noticed is that none of the women in the videos are of the “Karen” / Gen X age.
What I find alarming ( but is probably typical for internet knee jerk reactions) is the self righteousness expressed by the environment of the perpetrator. The lady calling the cops on the chalk stencilling home owner looses customers- so far, understandable. Her husband loosing his job? Seriously? For standing by while his wife is stupid? ( how often are husbands standing by while their women do something).
If you drive by a serious accident without helping, you are committing an offence. Nobody in this case was in immediate danger. These overreactions are telling more about the boss firing him for a “ feel good “ for himself, because “ he is not like him“. This is not helpful at all in making people realize their own biasses, contrary, it helps them disguise them.

I think the important thing to realize is that this trend is pointing out a particular type of behaviour so it can change. It turns out to have traction, it’s working - even if/ maybe especially if, it is an annoyance - everybody knows the type and done with humour it actually makes an impression and starts a conversation and calls out the behaviour. Otherwise it might not have. If one gets in a bunch over the use of the name Karen, or Becky, or whatever name the meme uses for a similar personality type...and if you don’t get it, it doesn’t sink in that it’s not about you, it’s about what kind of attitude needs to change - you are the problem, you’re being a Karen and too bad if that makes you want to “speak to the manager”, you don’t get to, you have to sit with it and think about how far back the generic entitled white woman goes - centuries - locate your inner Karen, and change that about you - it gets right back to that point. Funnily enough, there seem to be plenty of Karens who get it, and who are not personally offended. If you are offended, and your name’s not even Karen - but even if it is - then the joke’s on you for being offended over a trite matter. The joke’s on all of us for a serious reason, and we need to be able to take it. I mean is that hard to endure, considering?

Any word can be used in a derogatory way depending on the agenda of the person releasing an icon of God ... or so the word goes.

Watch the body language, etc for information and intelligence on the object of observation to see if they know what they are saying or are void about what they know of multitudinous word ...

It is like black against white ... or if you doctor it adequately can leave the red faced opposing a psssst'd person. Such disturbances do not do any conspiracy theories well ... unless paired complementary with with a bit of information that is values and well Kare 'd fore in the beginning. Thus the overly enthusiastic people lose their kerygmatic stance ... as if numbed in the blast!

It is best described in the great press ... gravitas?

And now you know, @Mendalla, why the Karen meme cant stop. Enough people have enough of the Woke BS (belief system) that it is Good and Right to be as judgemental or racist or prejudiced or sexist or othering etc. against an Oppressor No matter what the cost or results. If someone has Sinned against a Sacred Oppressed, all bets are off. All Oppressors Need to Be Taught a Lesson.

PERSPECTACLE 2
@Mendalla,

The only people who have any right to an opinion to this is the two people who were involved in it.

Anything else anyone else can say is none of their business imho

Plus it is dreadfully boring to have an opinion on everything...wherez the life and the mystery? :3

PERSPECTACLE 3
i say stop words entirely because they are all potentially offensive and etc and just communicate through

interpretative dance :3

Mother nature will figure it out and plague us ... with some unknown attack ... thus we be come numb-in-us ... glowing black holes?

Like Alice ... they don;t live there anymore as a fey spirit! Some say a fey spirit is ephemeral ... like hormones ... come and gone in a flash of complexity!

To be clear, the behaviour that gets a person labelled "Karen" is not okay. I do not think anyone here is disputing that. And yes we all need to check ourselves for such behaviours. Each of us here is capable of behaving badly and of changing for the better. The issue is the use of the name Karen to describe it.

I grew up as a sensitive person. I'm sure I'm not alone in that here. Before I learned to use that trait well and be comfortable with it, I was mocked if I responded as a sensitive person. Mocking is often a way to silence and demean. Suggesting that people don't have a sense of humour when they question the use of the name Karen is this type of mocking. How much abuse has been perpetuated by telling the victim they have no sense of humour? I'm not saying anyone here is being abused for the record. Dismissing concerns as evidence those with the concerns have no sense of humour is dismissive and does not contribute to the discussion.
