Can we please stop misusing the name "Karen"?

Karen is the Danish name for Katherine and it means pure. Unless there's one single Karen who never made a mistake, is it a misuse? And what about the Karens who aren't Katherines and the Katherines who aren't Karens? What do we do about that?

Which is really my point. Using a person's name for a personality that could carry a value judgement is inviting people to judge other people who have that name. Do we really want to be doing that?

Hurricanes are different in that they are an impersonal force and I don't think I have ever heard anyone judged by what hurricane they are named for.
 
I got Karened yesterday. I think for the first time in my life. Other than on the computer. I felt like God was testing me. But the LLeft is even here in Calgary.

If the name of the phenomenon Karen offends you, you are well on your way to being part of it.
 
I think we can do better than to use a real name as an insult. Seeing that it is connected to Karen on Will and Grace makes it make more sense. Still, it's not necessary. It's dismissive of a real problem in some ways. I'm sure we can find better ways to call out such behaviours.

Let us rename PG13 ... Rae Mon'd just because we don't be care'n for his brean whatever is hung up in his Nietzsche ... resembles a nick in the mountain of God where the mos or Muses sublimed ... Ice-hilly!

Then there are Inuit carns ... with a label I find in the cloudy distance right now ... farce Ide? I can accept dependance on alternates for learning ... the opposition would rather not know ... follow a one line thread! It is a delicat connection ... sacred chords are improved and well brae Dead! Like what grows from follicles ...

Thus it would be a cameo ... parallel to hommeo which meant common at one time ... a time alas passed to to altars and evolutionary extensions of the God ankh ... danke schoen? Take nothing to serious in the cranked case of the cosmos ... the fixations are statues ... something as a guide to stroll about and observe from all angles ... like dragon flies ... hellgramite? Then there are hammock caines as that child is beaten ... to get him up to do what he doesn't wish to do ... like dense matter being forced to mentally process .... passing through the stones? Brick bats ...
 
I still think that subbing Ivanka for Karen largely solves the problem. I know of none personally, only one celebrity by that name, and she's an a**hole, also the daughter of an a**hole, so it fits.

My name is the name of a family of despots. I don’t sweat it. I know I wasn’t named after them. I’m sure there are just as many jerks with my name as there are nice people. Some, both, depending on the circumstances. And none of them are me. I have better things to worry about. The world has better things to worry about. You sound like curmudgeons.

Of course, the use of "John" to mean a guy who pays for sex is arguably another example. It has just been around so long (in its modern usage, dates to the twenties) that I don't think it inspires the same reaction.
