Jesus was the Word of God made flesh.
a Faith statement made by the writer of John's Gospel, likely growing out of the early debate of "who was Jesus"? Noting in any of the Gospels would state that this is what those people walking around Galilee with Jesus thought along those lines )or to be fair nothing says they did not either)

Bible Faith is God kind of Faith Paradox3 ----and God's Faith was always in existence ---Every Word Jesus spoke was faith ----God created the World by speaking Faith Filled words ----God said then Gos saw what He said ---If you notice Jesus always spoke and His words Created ----He called Lazarus to get up He spoke words ---He called to demons to leave --He spoke words ----He killed a Thing --the Fig Tree by speaking faith Filled words ------God's Faith is inbirthed in us by God speaking His word -----

The Rhema word is faith spoken -----the Logos is the written -----

The Hebrew word ----Devar ------------Rhema word is the Greek word it means the same as the Hebrew word Devar
Hebrew Perspectives
Devar
Hebrew: דָּבָר
Meaning: Word
It also means "thing"... When God speaks a #WORD He creates a "thing"

unsafe says
True Christians create God's Promises in their Lives by believing and Speaking the word -----God's Faith Produces ----

Romans 4 GW

Abraham believed when he stood in the presence of the God who gives life to dead people and calls into existence things that don’t even exist. 18 When there was nothing left to hope for, Abraham still hoped and believed. As a result, he became a father of many nations, as he had been told: “That is how many descendants you will have.” 19 Abraham didn’t weaken. Through faith he regarded the facts: His body was already as good as dead now that he was about a hundred years old, and Sarah was unable to have children. 20 He didn’t doubt God’s promise out of a lack of faith. Instead, giving honor to God for the promise, he became strong because of faith 21 and was absolutely confident that God would do what he promised. 22 That is why Abraham’s faith was regarded as the basis of his approval by God.

Summary: Luke 7: 1 - 17

1. Jesus heals a centurion's slave, who is close to death, and praises the faith of the centurion.

2. Jesus goes to Nain along with his disciples and a large crowd. As he approaches the gates of the town, a man who has died is being carried out. He was his mother's only son and she was a widow. When Jesus sees her, he has compassion for her, and says, "Do not weep."

Jesus goes to the bier, saying, "Young man, I say to you, rise!" The dead man sits up & begins to speak.

All are afraid but recognize Jesus as a great prophet. God has looked favorably upon God's people and word about Jesus spreads throughout Judea and the surrounding country.

Reflection: Luke 7: 1 - 17

We had the story of the centurion's slave in Matthew. Raising the widow's son at Cain only takes place in Luke.

Interesting that the woman's faith is not the point of this healing story. Jesus is moved to compassion when he sees her weeping and has the dead man rise and speak.

For some reason, I am reminded of the "stand up and walk" healing of the paralyzed man in Luke 5.

Part of Todays Scripture -----

Luke 7:1-10 (GW)
A Believing Army Officer

7 When Jesus had finished everything he wanted to say to the people, he went to Capernaum. 2 There a Roman army officer’s valuable slave was sick and near death. 3 The officer had heard about Jesus and sent some Jewish leaders to him. They were to ask Jesus to come and save the servant’s life. 4 They came to Jesus and begged, “He deserves your help. 5 He loves our people and built our synagogue at his own expense.”

6 Jesus went with them. He was not far from the house when the officer sent friends to tell Jesus, “Sir, don’t bother. I don’t deserve to have you come into my house. 7 That’s why I didn’t come to you. But just give a command, and let my servant be cured. 8 As you know, I’m in a chain of command and have soldiers at my command. I tell one of them, ‘Go!’ and he goes, and another, ‘Come!’ and he comes. I tell my servant, ‘Do this!’ and he does it.”

9 Jesus was amazed at the officer when he heard these words. He turned to the crowd following him and said, “I can guarantee that I haven’t found faith as great as this in Israel.”

10 When the men who had been sent returned to the house, they found the servant healthy again.

unsafe says
-----So the context is about Faith here in this Scripture -----We see the officer's compassion for his servant ----and we see that the Officer had heard of Jesus and he obviously believed that Jesus was more than just a man ----verse 3 says

3 The officer had heard about Jesus and sent some Jewish leaders to him

unsafe says
----So we see here that this officer does himself not feel worthy to get Jesus so he sends some Jewish leaders ----

This is how some people feel today-- they are not worthy to receive God's Love ---Many believe they are not worthy because they don't understand who God is and What God is all about -----they have a concept that God is beyond their reach and even when some do reach out they feel God is not there cause nothing happens -----they feel on the outside of having Mercy and Grace bestowed on them ---

The Gentile Officer could have been feeling inadequate because of the fact that he was outside the Jewish Covenant and was considered a heathen and felt it was more appropriate to send the Jewish Leaders -----we don't know ---but one thing we do know is he was very caring and showed love and compassion for his servant ----- He respected his Servant and was willing to Send for the only person he thought could save him ----

This shows that somewhere along the line he had been in the presents of Jesus and had seen Him Heal and heard Him preach and this made some connection with him and he truly believed that Jesus could and would heal his servant -----

unsafe says ---in verses 6 and 7 ----We see another remarkable thing the Officer does ----- He sends some friends to tell Jesus that he is not worthy to have Him come in his house -----and tells Jesus that if He just gives a command his servant will be healed -----

6 Jesus went with them. He was not far from the house when the officer sent friends to tell Jesus, “Sir, don’t bother. I don’t deserve to have you come into my house. 7 That’s why I didn’t come to you. But just give a command, and let my servant be cured.

unsafe says ----
What humbleness this man is showing --He is a Officer with men under him --he could be so arrogant and self absorbed and yet he lays self down and gives honor and respect for who Jesus is and believes in the power Jesus has to heal his beloved Servant ---This Officer had the insight to see all Jesus had to do was speak a command and healing would occur ------The Faith he shows here is Great in the eyes of Jesus -----The Pharisees who are Jesus own people show much less insight and Faith in Him than this Gentile -----

Today many do not know or understand that God's Word has Great Healing Power as Jesus is the Word --Jesus Heals through His Word -----The Word is Alive And Active today -----it heals and it produces what it says ---

unsafe says
---and verse 8 shows us more of how insightful the Officer is not just to men obeying his commands but he also in obeying his superiors commands ----He was showing he had knowledge about how his earthly principles of obedience worked and that by sending for Jesus He would obey and come ----and he Showed his great faith in knowing that Jesus didn't have to be present in the house to heal ---His Word of Command was enough -----

Verses 9and 10 ---speak for themselves -----His own people did not display the Faith and insight that this Gentile did

9 Jesus was amazed at the officer when he heard these words. He turned to the crowd following him and said, “I can guarantee that I haven’t found faith as great as this in Israel.”

10 When the men who had been sent returned to the house, they found the servant healthy again.

So many People who call themselves Christians today are in the dark as to how powerful God's Word really is in our Lives and how the lack of insight affects our daily living ----

Second part of today's scripture

Luke 7:11-17 (GW)
Jesus Brings a Widow’s Son Back to Life
11 Soon afterward, Jesus went to a city called Nain. His disciples and a large crowd went with him. 12 As he came near the entrance to the city, he met a funeral procession. The dead man was a widow’s only child. A large crowd from the city was with her.

13 When the Lord saw her, he felt sorry for her. He said to her, “Don’t cry.”

14 He went up to the open coffin, took hold of it, and the men who were carrying it stopped. He said, “Young man, I’m telling you to come back to life!” 15 The dead man sat up and began to talk, and Jesus gave him back to his mother.

16 Everyone was struck with fear and praised God. They said, “A great prophet has appeared among us,” and “God has taken care of his people.” 17 This news about Jesus spread throughout Judea and the surrounding region.

unsafe says ----We see here that Jesus shows Compassion for the woman who has lost her son ----verse 13

13 When the Lord saw her, he felt sorry for her. He said to her, “Don’t cry.”

verse 14 ---We see Jesus is acting as He takes hold of the coffin -----and then what does He do -----He speaks a Command ---He doesn't say OK boy I would like you to come back to life -----He speaks with authority in a Command voice ------- He said, “Young man, I’m telling you to come back to life!”

unsafe says -----This is important for us today with our Healing -------Jesus has made Healing available to us ----it is done for all who Receive Jesus as their Lord and Saviour ----but we can't be wishy washy in our approach to getting that healing ----We have our Faith in Jesus who is the Word and we need to be authoritative in our Command to be healed -----just like Jesus is doing here -----

And verse 15 gives us the Results of that Command ---15 The dead man sat up and began to talk, and Jesus gave him back to his mother.

unsafe says ------
This passage also shows us that Jesus has power over death -----Christ can give us Spiritual Life and we should be grateful and praiseful and Thankful -----when our dead souls are raise to life by Divine Power when we hear the Word of God it is God who is Glorified --our interest should be seeking our eternal life by and through the only one who is Jesus that can bring our dead souls back to life to reside in His Kingdom and keep us from perishing ------God wants all People raised from the dead to reside with Him ------

Summary: Luke 7: 18 - 35

The disciples of John have been reporting all of Jesus' actions to him, so he sends two of his disciples to meet with Jesus. They are to ask, "Are you the one who is to come, or are we to wait for another?" (v. 19)

Jesus instructs them to tell John what they have witnessed: the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised & the poor have the good news brought to them.

When John's messengers are gone, Jesus speaks to the crowds about John. John is a great prophet and no one born of women is greater than he. The Pharisees and lawyers had refused to be baptized by John & thus refused God's purpose for themselves.

Jesus criticizes the present generation. They are like children sitting in the marketplace, calling to one another, "We played the flute for you, and you did not dance. We wailed and you did not weep." (v. 32)

John the Baptist has come eating no bread and drinking no wine, and the people say he has a demon. The Son of Man has come eating and drinking and people say he is glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.

Nevertheless, wisdom is vindicated by all her children.

Reflection: Luke 7: 18 - 35

So curious that John sends two messengers to ask Jesus about himself. This is John, who leaped with joy in his mother's womb when Mary came to visit Elizabeth. And back in Luke 3, he had proclaimed that One more powerful than he would be coming to baptize with the Holy Spirit and with fire.

Why Is John now asking if Jesus is the One to come or if they are to wait for another?

In our discussion about Luke 3, it was noted that the text does not actually say that John baptized Jesus. Mark's and Matthew's gospels are much more definitive about it.

Jesus seems to be very well acquainted with John and his role as a prophet. Like John, Jesus is being rejected by the present generation.

Wisdom is vindicated by all her children, Jesus teaches.

Scripture for today ----Luke 7:18-35

Luke 7:18-35 (ERV)
John Sends Men to Ask Jesus a Question

18 John’s followers told him about all these things. John called for two of his followers. 19 He sent them to the Lord to ask, “Are you the one we heard was coming, or should we wait for someone else?”

20 So the men came to Jesus. They said, “John the Baptizer sent us to you with this question: ‘Are you the one who is coming, or should we wait for someone else?’”

21 Right then Jesus healed many people of their sicknesses and diseases. He healed those who had evil spirits and made many who were blind able to see again. 22 Then he said to John’s followers, “Go tell John what you have seen and heard: The blind can see. The crippled can walk. People with leprosy are healed. The deaf can hear. The dead are brought back to life. And the Good News is being told to the poor. 23 Great blessings belong to those who don’t have a problem accepting me.”

24 When John’s followers left, Jesus began talking to the people about John: “What did you people go out into the desert to see? Someone who is weak, like a stem of grass blowing in the wind? 25 Really, what did you expect to see? Someone dressed in fine clothes? Of course not. People who wear fancy clothes and live in luxury are all in kings’ palaces. 26 So what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, John is a prophet. But I tell you, he is more than that. 27 This Scripture was written about him:

‘Listen! I will send my messenger ahead of you.
He will prepare the way for you.

28 I tell you, no one ever born is greater than John. But even the least important person in God’s kingdom is greater than John.”

29 (When the people heard this, they all agreed that God’s teaching was good. Even the tax collectors agreed. These were the people who were baptized by John. 30 But the Pharisees and experts in the law refused to accept God’s plan for themselves; they did not let John baptize them.)

31 “What shall I say about the people of this time? What can I compare them to? What are they like? 32 They are like children sitting in the marketplace. One group of children calls to the other children and says,

‘We played flute music for you,
but you did not dance;
we sang a sad song,
but you did not cry.’

33 John the Baptizer came and did not eat the usual food or drink wine. And you say, ‘He has a demon inside him.’ 34 The Son of Man came eating and drinking. And you say, ‘Look at him! He eats too much and drinks too much wine! He is a friend of tax collectors and other sinners!’ 35 But wisdom is shown to be right by those who accept it.”

unsafe says ------
we see in verse 18 and 19 ---John sends a couple of his followers to Question Jesus if He is the One ---

18 John’s followers told him about all these things. John called for two of his followers. 19 He sent them to the Lord to ask, “Are you the one we heard was coming, or should we wait for someone else?”

unsafe says ----look at the Question being ask here ------“Are you the one we heard was coming, or should we wait for someone else?”

Today there are many who are asking this same Question ---Is Jesus really God ----or is Jesus just a Prophet that came to teach moral values ----Even thought the Word tells us exactly who Jesus is many have doubts

unsafe says --We see Here that John is asking a question that has an yes or no answer -----John the Baptise was excited about the coming Messiah so John never had any animosity toward Jesus so it was not because of that that John is asking the Question here ----- If you read Matthew 11 and Luke 3 John is in prison at this time and probable is hearing that Jesus is being rejected by the Religious Leaders and Could be wanting Jesus to publicly Proclaim that He is the Messiah so it would be spoken so there is no Doubt who He really is -----

unsafe says ---There is a lesson to learn here for True Christians about being away from God for long periods of time ----that is not going to church or reading the Word regularly or Praying on a regular bases to keep that relationship with God close and strong --when we keep the gap wide between us and God Satan creeps in and can play havoc with our thinking which can bring in doubt about our beliefs and so can that happen if we listen to other people instead of relying on the truth of the scripture ------

unsafe says ------We see in verse 21-22 ----What Jesus does ---He does not say publicly to these men that He is The Messiah ---instead He shows them by deeds ------So Jesus does not do what John may have wanted done ------

Verse 21 says -----21 Right then Jesus healed many people of their sicknesses and diseases. He healed those who had evil spirits and made many who were blind able to see again

22 Then he said to John’s followers, “Go tell John what you have seen and heard: The blind can see. The crippled can walk. People with leprosy are healed. The deaf can hear. The dead are brought back to life. And the Good News is being told to the poor.

unsafe says ---We see that Jesus tells John's followers to go to him and say what they have heard and seen --

So again verse 23 has a Spiritual message to consider -------

The Blind -----Spiritual Blindness is a darkness their is no light in Spiritual Blindness the lack of wariness of the light is in place ----The Pharisees and the scribes are examples of this -----

The crippled -----Spiritually the crippled are the Carnally Minded Christians -----they know about the God's Kingdom but they are still in bondage still to the world's way of thinking ------Paul addresses this in 1Corinthians 3

Leprosy -----Spiritually Speaking this disease compares with sin and uncleanness

The deaf -----Spiritually the message is that Spiritual deafness is the lack of understanding their ears are closed of to the real Spiritual message of what is being said ---You hear the words but they are of no effect -----

The dead -----The Spiritual message of the dead is describing the Natural man ------who is spiritually dead and away from God and His word ----

The Poor is hearing the Good News ---Spiritually the poor are ----- Strong's #4434: ptochos -----3 as respects their spirit
destitute of wealth of learning and intellectual culture which the schools afford (men of this class most readily give themselves up to Christ' s teaching and proved them selves fitted to lay hold of the heavenly treasure)

unsafe says ----All these people need Jesus Christ He is the only one who can heal all these People ------and today we as Well Need Jesus He still is the only one who can heal us and bring us back to total Health and Glory -----Without Jesus in us we Spiritually are all of the above -----

In the rest of the scripture ------We see Jesus Praise John to the crowd of People and He tells them that no greater Prophet was there than John as he paved the way for Salvation ----Jesus says in verses 33-35 ----the people who received the message of John the Baptise found it easy to accept what Jesus was saying ---but those who did not repent rejected the Good News as well ---Jesus points out the hardness of the hearts and the Hypocrisy of those who criticized John and Jesus Himself ----

unsafe says -----When people have their minds closed and have hardened their hearts against hearing God's Word or Message then there is nothing the person can say or do that can change that ---So when Jesus had this happen to Him ---He simply did this ---

Luke-9-5.jpg

Summary: Luke 7: 36 - 50

Jesus is dining at the house of one of the Pharisees. A woman in the city, who is a sinner, brings an alabaster jar of ointment when she learns Jesus is in this house. She stands behind Him at His feet, weeping, and begins to bathe His feet with her tears and to dry his feet with her hair. She continues kissing his feet and anointing them with the ointment.

The Pharisee remarks that Jesus should have known what kind of woman this is who is touching Him. Jesus responds with a parable about a creditor who had two debtors. One owed more than the other but the debts of both were cancelled. The one who was forgiven the most loved the most.

Because the woman was forgiven by Jesus, she showed him great love and did more for him than the Pharisee. If forgiveness is minimal, the gratitude is minimal.

Jesus tells the woman, "Your sins are forgiven. Your faith has saved you. Go in peace."

The dinner guests are not impressed and question who Jesus thinks he is, forgiving sins.

Reflection: Luke 7: 36 - 50

A curious story which only appears in Luke's gospel. It is sometimes seen as a foreshadowing of the anointment of Jesus' body after the crucifixion. And it is sometimes seen as a very sensuous story.

Is the story teaching us that compassionate action needs to take place when we are forgiven?

Interesting that this particular Pharisee invited Jesus to dine at his home but was not particularly hospitable. He gave Jesus no water for His feet, gave Him no kiss and did not anoint His head with oil. And the Pharisee criticized Jesus for allowing the woman to touch Him.

Later all the dinner guests question who Jesus is to forgive sins. As the narrative builds in Luke, crowds of people are attracted to Jesus for healing and to hear his teachings. Yet the Pharisees are becoming more and more questioning.

I have forgiven others and others have forgiven me during my lifetime....I am not God and neither were those who forgave me. Does God only need to offer forgiveness when others won't?
Is repentance necessary, for forgiveness to be complete?

The contrast between the host, who treats his guest rather curtly, and the "sinner", who gives Jesus a very warm reception seems important to me. She recognizes who he is and her need for him while the Pharisee, as we see with those of a more legalistic bent time and time again, does not. This also seems to tie in with the parable of the debtors, where the one with the greater debt loves the one offering forgiveness more.

Seems to me the passage itself could be a parable or could be a real incident punched up into one. Would make a good, dramatic scene in a movie or TV version but feels a bit real, too.

todays scripture --

Luke 7:36-50 (GNT)
Jesus at the Home of Simon the Pharisee
36 A Pharisee invited Jesus to have dinner with him, and Jesus went to his house and sat down to eat. 37 A)'>In that town was a woman who lived a sinful life. She heard that Jesus was eating in the Pharisee's house, so she brought an alabaster jar full of perfume 38 and stood behind Jesus, by his feet, crying and wetting his feet with her tears. Then she dried his feet with her hair, kissed them, and poured the perfume on them. 39 When the Pharisee saw this, he said to himself, “If this man really were a prophet, he would know who this woman is who is touching him; he would know what kind of sinful life she lives!”

40 Jesus spoke up and said to him, “Simon, I have something to tell you.”

“Yes, Teacher,” he said, “tell me.”

41 “There were two men who owed money to a moneylender,” Jesus began. “One owed him five hundred silver coins, and the other owed him fifty. 42 Neither of them could pay him back, so he canceled the debts of both. Which one, then, will love him more?”

43 “I suppose,” answered Simon, “that it would be the one who was forgiven more.”

“You are right,” said Jesus. 44 Then he turned to the woman and said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I came into your home, and you gave me no water for my feet, but she has washed my feet with her tears and dried them with her hair. 45 You did not welcome me with a kiss, but she has not stopped kissing my feet since I came. 46 You provided no olive oil for my head, but she has covered my feet with perfume. 47 I tell you, then, the great love she has shown proves that her many sins have been forgiven. But whoever has been forgiven little shows only a little love.”

48 Then Jesus said to the woman, “Your sins are forgiven.”

49 The others sitting at the table began to say to themselves, “Who is this, who even forgives sins?”

50 But Jesus said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”

unsafe says -----This first part is such a great testimony to show us that Jesus ---God Agapes all His Creation --with all our baggage and all our flaws ---no one is left out of God's Love absolutely no one -----it is us who have pulled away from God's Love -----

And it shows us the Love --Faith ---Reverence - Emotional Compassion -- Humbleness and Submission that this woman felt toward Jesus -----

unsafe says ---We Humans especially People who call themselves Christians should be as passionate for Jesus as this sinful woman is in this Scripture ------He is our Saviour ---our Redeemer -----without Jesus we are like filthy rags according to Isaiah 64 ---

We see the Pharisee who is a Religious Leader invites Jesus to his house -----and the woman hears that Jesus is there and goes specifically to see Jesus and she takes expensive oil with her -----she kneels at His feet ----and she is crying -----her tears show us just being in the presents of Jesus was very emotional for her ---she couldn't contain her reverence her gratefulness just to be in the same room with Him -----She demonstrates her Love and Submission to Him by her kneeling at His Feet -----she wipers her tears from His Feet with her hair -----how humble is that ----she kisses His feet -----such compassion shown here -----

unsafe says ------By her doing this of course we have the Religious Leader bringing his unbelief of Jesus being a Prophet to surface -----

39 The Pharisee who had invited Jesus saw this and thought, “If this man really were a prophet, he would know what sort of woman is touching him. She’s a sinner.”

All the Pharisees saw about the woman was her sin ---All Jesus saw was her Faith and Love for Him --she believed He was more than a Prophet ----

unsafe says ----this is the same for many today in their unbelief in who Jesus really is --- is still very much alive today ----Many Religions do not believe Jesus Is God or the Son of God -----Nor do they believe that God's Word is God Breathed ----the Bible is only a bunch of myth stories for some Religions -----

unsafe says
---We see Jesus telling the Pharisee His illustration of the 2 debtors -----and forgiveness ------and Jesus forgives the woman's sins because of her Faith In Him ------ the men argue about who does Jesus think He is that He can forgive sins ------again showing their disbelief and hardened hearts and arrogance toward Jesus -----

We see Jesus healing the physical body of many people -----but Physical healing will still give way to Death of the Body eventually ------Spiritual Healing which brings the forgiveness of our sins and this healing is eternal ------

The Pharisees were mixed up in their thinking -----their compassion was in keeping the law and making their own rules and traditions --they were Spiritually Blind and many remain like the Pharisees today ------it is Sad but True -----

Contrasts+Blind+Man+Had+not+seen+Jesus+before+being+healed.jpg

unsafe said:
without Jesus we are like filthy rags according to Isaiah 64 ---

Actually unsafe, it is our deeds that are as filthy rags. "And all we be made as an unclean man; all our rightfulnesses be as the cloth of a woman in menstruation, or unclean blood; and all we fell down as a leaf, and our wickednesses, as wind, have taken away us." - Isaiah 64:6 (WYC). And the verse says nothing about Jesus.

Thoughts on Luke 7:36-38...

Jesus was the friend of publicans and sinners.

The nature of his relations to the classes that were held in contempt by the Pharisees' shown in this story.

One of the Pharisees invited Jesus to take dinner with him, and Jesus accepted, going into the house and reclining at the table.

There's no mention of the usages by which a host among the Jews honored his guest.

Then an incident occurred.

A city-woman, a character, heard of Jesus' presence in the Pharisee's house.

She'd been deceived by sin, she'd received gall instead of honey, and now she was looking down into shame. Jesus' news had brought her to the realization of her position; she now felt her misery.

So she bought an ointment-vase and she stood at Jesus' feet, weeping. Her tears washed Jesus' feet, and she dried them off with her hair. And she kissed him and smeared him with her salve.

It was a show of sorrow, combined with a clinging to Jesus as the only one in whom she could trust. And her sorrow became joy that Jesus didn't spurn her, that she had a Savior with grasp and grace.
