The mosquito wasn't created to be a pest to humans because mosquitoes pre-date humans by at least 46 million years. Perhaps as much as 79 million years. We've only been here a couple hundred thousand years or so. We're new. They're old.

Ok - I guess that's what science would say. The Bible suggests otherwise. Insects and humans were created by God only about 6,000 years ago. Mosquitoes predate humans by 1 day.

fun riff Gord -- thanks for continuing to ask questions and for your embracing of not knowing

cancer is good
jihadists are good
nuclear explosions are good
rabies is good
the keystone pipeline is good
_____ is good

struggling with concepts is good

people see the world and try to make it fit into their particular story-structure..
Struggling with concepts is good, as you say. But being presented with challenges like cancer, jihadists, nuclear explosions, etc, is also good too. At least in the long run. These times of cancer and danger may be the cause suffering for a time, but time and space are temporary to those who know the eternal. This is how we live and learn and grow. And that's a good thing!

Maybe you are thinking of modern humans, I think the skeleton of a child found in South Africa by Raymond Dart is dated about two million years old. Granted the mosquito still predated humans by many millions of years.

except that most of us don't think the Bible is a science text.

Hi Rev Gord-- Really hi to all. I wonder if you an others here know , our Lord Jesus The Christ who wrote the old Testment came to earth . And I" haven't found Him to say there was anything wrong with it. Because He was there at the time. I myself will believe it happened the way it said. Now Jesus did say much on how mankind could not seem to get things the right way . I myself can not understand that so many who walk with Christ still seem to have that problem.Unless of course they believe the are GOD and know better than Christ. airclean33

When was this verified to be true? What methodology was used to verify it?

Never said that it is Gord.
I beg to differ Jae. You said "the Bible suggests" mosquitoes and humans were created a day apart 6000 years ago right after you said "I suppose science would say that". To me the inference was that that Biblical account is a more accurate account than "What science says". To me that is taking the Creation story as a science text.

The Bible is more truthful than is science. However - when I mentioned what science says I was referring to what had been earlier posted by - uh - I believe it was chansen.

Is this where we take you seriously, or not? Even if we are to take you seriously, maybe the best course of action is to shake my head, and move on.

Where did the number 6000 years come from?

The name most commonly mentioned is James Ussher. He was a leading church figure in Ireland in the 17th century, and - apparently having not much to do as an Archbishop and later as Primate of Ireland - he took the Bible, interpreted every word (including all the mentions of any time, such as the "days" of creation, and the ages of folks like Methusaleh) absolutely literally, and determined that the earth was created at the fall of night, just preceding Sunday, October 23, 4004 BC.

Now, he's the most commonly mentioned name. Of course, there were many guesses before Ussher as to how old the earth was based on the biblical narrative, but his was the most precise and seems to have been the most influential to creationists.
