The countdown at work continues. Holidays start on Sat. Tomorrow is a school wide turkey lunch and Friday the itinerant staff are gathering for breakfast. Looking forward to my time off.

Well, I have to work next Monday and Tuesday, but I will be the only person working in our office, so I will be able to open my door and blast the tunes and dance and sing to my hearts content, as I file and tidy, etc.

Congratulations on being able to blast the tunes and dance and sing to your heart's content.

Tabitha, I know that you work haard and give your all to your kids (that recent field trip to Disney must have been physically and emotionally exhausting). You deserve a break.

Bette - being the only person in the office will give you time to get things done. And to sing and dance to your hearts content. I'll sing along here in my den.

Last night, i went to bed after talking to a friend who has the same cancer as me, though a higher stage. (that higher stage is a significant difference). She finished her treatment a year ago, and has recently been diagnosed with further cancer. Treatment is looking to be aggressive surgery. Her numbers since the finding of the new cancer were given as 25-50% survival over 5 years. I love her attitude...it's not 0. She is a fighter. She is just 50.

This morning I woke up to find out that an ex- coworker, diagnosed with stomach cancer a year ago, had died. I had chatted with her on facebook less than a month ago. We worked together for 10 years, she was a lovely woman and was also just 50. Her sister works at the same place as us and I am thinking of her today.

It is also my doctor's followup appointment today. It's a day to remember to breathe.

pinga, I wish there were some way to protect those recovering from cancer from this type of news - Seelergirl has passed her 5 year recovery now, but I'm sure it still hits her in the stomach every time she reads the obits (and in this small city there is a chance that she knows the person if they are anywhere near 50). Right now we both are facebooking with someone who used to attend our church but who moved to Halifax a few years ago. She spent last year fighting cancer, was just getting back into her life, and the cancer is back with a vengence. It doesn't look good - but she is a fighter.
Every person is different. Good luck with your doctor's appointment. And yes, breathe. There are a whole lot of us rooting for you and sending positive energy.

Always recall Pinga ... you are part of the Eire we breath in and out now ... all together ...

It might disturb those despising the sounds from bag pipes ... and we all hoot Aria ... in the Shadow ... where few of the flaming ones will go ...

Hoping your appointment went well pinga. So difficult to hear those other stories - at any time - but especially when one is perhaps feeling more vulnerable than usual. Hugs to you - sounds like a good prayer shawl night.

Went Christmas shopping today. For the first year ever, I avoided shopping malls like the plague, and shopped only at independent stores. I must say - I enjoyed the experience far more. The merchants were all very friendly and knowledgeable, and I found myself choosing gifts more carefully (less impulse buying). I finished my excursion with a nice coffee and chocolate butter tart at a non-franchised cafe. Perfectly delightful.

Awww, Pinga, so tough. Oh, how I hate cancer. Hope your appointment went well.

Good for you Pr. Jae. Wish I could say the same. I went mall shopping in the evenings or on weekends...very quickly and not very pleasantly.

Last day at school for two weeks. I gave my kids BOOKS as gifts (just as I did at Halloween). They each got a Junie B. Jones book (author Barbara Park) and another book. We read one Junie B. book before Christmas and they loved it so much that when they got their gift bags and found a Junie B. book, they all got excited, even the rough tough hockey player types. One little girl came back after school with her mom....crying, upset that somehow she had lost her gift bag. I said that I didn't have another (cute bags, books plus candy), but I did have a special Junie B. book that she could have. She left with the biggest smile on her face. Oh how I love people who love books!

Hi folks, thanks for your support.
The appointment went well, and was as positive of news as a 6 week appointment can give. There will be many appointments as the cycle is every 3 months, then, yearly until I hit the 5 year mark. I am positive, but, also aware that there are no guarantees.

On the plus side, I am much better at internals then I was say 5 months ago! Hah, something about having brachytherapy, etc taught me to relax and just let them at it.... There is an upside to everything

@Nancy , what a great treat for your students to receive a book. That is quite kind of you.

I remember in grade 7 the teacher-at the end of the year-let everyone order one book from scholastic. That was fun. Getting books is great.

I loved sharing Junie B Jones books with kids - and chuckling at them myself. Good childreen's books often appeal to adults as well. It's a good way to judge a keeper.

Oatmeal porriage on the table for breakffast this morning (for scratch of course). A variety of toppings.

And today is Seelerboy's birthdaay. Could the WC choir get together just once again for a rousing round of 'Happy Birthday'. Incidently, on the other side of the world, his friends are taking him out to see the new Star Wars movie.

Oooh, if we're singing, better be in my wondervoice, because IRL me singing isn't much of a treat for anyone...

Busy day planned today. Have to be at the church in 20 minutes to help set up our indoor Peace Labyrinth, that we construct every Christmas season, then have to lug my brand new computer BACK to the store, on a Saturday, WAY down in the south end, then having dinner with a couple of gf's (one of whom has been battling cancer for 6 years now) followed by a Christmas symphony concert.

That does sound like a busy day Bette! I'd love hear more about your Peace Labyrinth - when time permits & we are not all so busy!

Had my colonoscopy yesterday - all is well & that's done for the next 5 years. Spent the afternoon sleeping & then went out to my euchre group in the evening - the best tonic ever for recovery! Went to a maker's market at our church today - great stuff! Saw some friends & got some key gifts purchased which is great. I'm always amazed by the diversity of talented crafts people at these sort of events - I think there were 40 or so merchants there and everything was of good quality, with no duplication of product. Tonight we're heading out to Hamilton with neighbours for supper & then a music night at a dive bar called This Ain't Hollywood. Great line-up of woman vocalists & some of proceeds to support Interval House shelter for women. Now - back to my wrapping!!

I went to a maker's market late in the season, after I had purchased most of my gifts. I have a gift for next year already picked out, a beautiful wood cutting board. Classic and beautifully made. I know who will get it.

I sent the last of my cards today, well, almost the last, there are a couple still awaiting addresses. It felt good to be done.

A local butcher who is at Cambridge & Brantford market had their inventory wiped out yesterday in a fire. I was talking to our butcher who are business friends and they said they lost all their special order information, plus all their meats and buildings. To scope it, they lost 2000 pounds of turkey. They are feeling sick about the orders. (Reminder that even small businesses should have a disaster recovery plan. Not good to have your computers and orders only available at the store.) http://www.brantnews.com/news-story/6201111-fire-causes-extensive-damage-at-carl-s-choice-meats/
