And they're off...the election thread

I think they all be gouted ... and they don't know any better' nus ... generally minds devoid due to religious persuasion to ignore what's obvious in the light of events (Levite impulses) and thus the occult polity ... regarding dark motes ...

We just moved a month ago and, to be honest, with redistribution I'm not even sure what riding we're living in. Our incumbent MP here is Conservative Barry Devolin, pretty low profile, don't know much about him, and in any event he's not running for re-election. I know none of the local candidates, so I'll probably be paying more attention to the national campaign than the local one, but frankly my vote will be a strategic one for either the NDP or the Liberals, depending on who seems more able to beat the Conservatives here. Frankly, I'm sick of Stephen Harper. I'm not really sold on Trudeau, and while Mulcair has been a good Opposition Leader I'm not convinced for whatever reason that he's a great choice for PM. But it's desperately time for a change. Realistically, though, the best possible outcome might be a Conservative minority, which would put some control on them and make Parliament a little more relevant. My fear is that 78 days of intense and unending Conservative attack ads will have their intended effect and result in another Conservative majority.

@revsdd
Does the appearance of screwed up politics get to yah?

Can polity arrive any other way being as isolated desires that do not include Pragmatism (what's good for all). Perhaps why some god said this whole system has to go ... a failed prototype? Just no heart to dispose of the whole thing ... thus we rerun the remnants ... small chitz?

I'm tired of the chemophobia/sciencephobia.
If something is labelled as a GMO, what extra information are you getting?
So many foods you don't even know what strain you're getting to start with. Saying it's a GMO without giving the specifics is meaningless.

Green is guilty of that, too. Not sure about the Libs. The Conservatives are, of course, too far the other way, trusting business to "do the right thing" which is patently not what businesses do.

Yeah, usually it's the Green that does this kind of thing. The sad thing is these types of ideas will probably gain them some support.

There's no kind of right thing ... if there was someone would corrupt ID ...

Thus another lesson on infinite change as a pain in what's behind ... hermeneutic? Endless pasts ...

Is it chemophobia that caused the EU to ban all GMOs?

Conspiracy theories that causes cattle grazing picked Bt-cotton fields to die?

Oh Bette ... these things are conspiratorially denied .. especially by Monsanto ... a single soled thing like Captain Hook ... stories by the paegan (public man) not to be repeated by Law of the Star Chamber? Do you understand the myth behind the Star Chamber ... the House of Lords or Gods of a rare or ethereal sort?

M Duffus belonged to that for a short period ... then collapsed ...

Wasn't smooth enough for Ermine Degrees ... excessive weaseling in l' hiver ... that cool time ... the conscience in sublimation?

Also, I hope that everyone understands the difference between genetic engineering (the detailed cross pollination which gives us a new variety of Echinacea and a bright new petunia every year) and genetic modification, whereby a completely foreign gene (resistance to a herbicide, usually, so that one can spray hell out of the crops with roundup) is spliced at the cellular level (somewhat inaccurately, which causes some different proteins to form because the DNA sequence is interrupted somewhat randomly) into an existing gene. Absolutely different things, and the latter is the one that concerns people, especially scientists in the EU.

There has been an interesting natural experiment going on in this regard

Europe has been testing banning GMOs

and the USA is the control

for over 20 years

looks good, too -- no horrible & horrific deaths & such going on in the USA so far...

i guess the fear & banning could be yet another example of being overly moral?

Conspiracy theories that causes cattle grazing picked Bt-cotton fields to die?

Was that event looked at by multiple parties and given a rigorous, scientific examination?

You're defining both incorrectly. Genetic modification is a fairly broad term. GMOs would include hybrids as well as organisms that have been genetically engineered.

What is genetically modified (GM) food? Essentially, a GM food is one derived from an organism that has had some of its heritable traits changed. This can involve:

  • Traditional techniques of crossbreeding.
  • Using chemicals or radiation to alter the genetic make-up of the organism's cells in a process called mutagenesis.
  • Applying recombinant DNA or genetic engineering techniques - for instance, introducing a gene from one species into another species.

The chopping of jinnis, or genes can be disruptive ... a base condition of the human state ... they can disrupt any continuum!

Good thing they are dis continuous ... otherwise known as mortal!
