I feel that in at least some cases the church may be instilling into the family the feeling of a debt which they feel they may never be able to repay.

Yes, debt, not to speak of embarrasment, anger, guilt, and shame. That's why some individuals would rather die than receive charity.

As I said on other threads, social justice is, or should be, a basic human right.

Difficult in a system that is basically antisocial and believes anyone below a certain line deserves nothing ... thus God rests with them in the humblest form ...

Rich people loose the concept ... under the possession of the whole world rules which has the analogue of when that possessed ... people have no soul ... they lost IT? So it goes ...

I agree that the church should not be involved in heaping shame and guilt on those who are born with same-sex desires. We are to Love others as God has first loved us.

John 3:17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.

As followers of Christ we are called to Love not condemn. John makes it clear that the World is condemned already. Mankind after Adam are all born into Sin and condemnation.

Romans 5:12 Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned—

After Adam all are born into sin and commit sin and need Salvation through Christ. This is the message of the Bible. Sexual sins are included in the Sin that we are born into and need cleansing from. Both the Old Testament and New Testament Scriptures affirm that Sexual sins will separate us from a right relationship with God.

1 Corinthians 6:9 Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men[a] 10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

I believe and teach the Truth that all men are born into sin and need Salvation through Christ that transforms them into the image of Jesus. I am sorry that the message of Truth has been used to "shame" and "condemn" rather than to enlighten and restore. May God help us to speak the Truth in Love and reach out in Love to those caught in the bondage of Sin.

John 8:34 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. 35 Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.

2 Timothy 2:24 And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful. 25 Opponents must be gently instructed, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, 26 and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.

In the literal sense of the bible does a lot of the literary sense as satyr miss those that hate knowledge?
Tis a wormy situation ... or in the tongues of past a bote things we don't know in presence ...

The Roman Empire hated thinkers ... as conception all beasts of eL Ç-IDe ...

Most churches operate out of an "us" vs. "them" mentality. Such an attitude creates a need for the churches' existence - they exist to protect the former from the latter. Black people, er, I meant to say gay (trans, bi, two-spirited etc.) people, are a good choice for being a major part of the "them" because they are so-obviously the other. Now, if some of those people should be shamed to the point of death, the churches will express concern, even if they had dehumanized them to the point of death. What churches should do is to stop making such distinctions between people, and be willing to minister with everyone interested.

Wonderfully put, Pastor. If any organization should NOT be operating out of that kind of confrontational mentality, it is the church. The fact that churches can, and do, operate from that mentality just shows again to what degree they are human rather than divine institutions.

I've just finished reading the report on Theologies of Disabilities ... in the GC42 workbook. Very impressive document that speaks to the way we view and respond to diversity. I highly recommend reading it.

Does diversity include the diverse and those across the way ... as isolated by the lyon in the sans ?

Thus the schism between east and west ... and the religiously inclined doesn't care .. a fixed concern?

Talk about stones and rigidity ...

I guess the bottom line is to love and accept people as Jesus did. The article pointed out that Jesus never shamed anyone, not the woman at the well, not Zacheus, not Peter after he denied Christ, no one. He showed love and acceptance always. I have zero doubt that if a gay or transgendered person approached Jesus, he would smile, give them a hug and love them fully. Since it is our goal as Christians to be as Christ-like as possible we should do the same.

--Hi Jon 71-- Here we are once again. Your thoughts are yours as our others here . This though I have a problem understanding. A Drunker can not come into the Kingdom. They must STOP being a drunk. A thief must stop stealing or they can not come into GODS Kingdom. A person in a adultery must stop. Or they can not go into GODS Kingdom. Yet you believe a Gay person can go on being Gay in act, and still go into GODS Kingdom. Could you explain why you think this way?

Here, let me try. My thought is that if your God does exist and has a hand in all creation like you claim, then to make people who are hardwired to only be attracted to and fall in love with members of their own sex, and then insist they be hounded in this life by religious jerks and punished in some supposed next life just for good measure, just for loving someone in a way that hurts no one, makes your God the most epic a**hole ever conceived.

I just wonder if a person that goes on being willfully ignorant is able to get into God's kingdom.
Is there not something said about unjust weights and measures???

We will all get into God's Kingdom, just some may take longer than others . (slightly sarcastic Universalist answer)

It's all about the heart airclean. A person who loves drink more than they love God will not be in God's Kingdom. Why? Because they've chosen to worship an idol rather than the King. Likewise, a person who loves stealing more than they love God will not be in the Kingdom, a person who loves adultery more will not be in God's Kingdom. Likewise, a person who loves any kind of sexual behavior more than they love God will not be in God's Kingdom.

So gays and lesbians are okay as long as they love God more than sex? And that is no different than for heterosexuals? Or does the fact that God forbids their behaviour (according to some, obviously not me and perhaps not you) mean that they are putting sex ahead of God just by doing it?
