In my family, the custard sauce was always made with Harry Horne's custard powder.
I remember learning about this product from my wife one Christmas baking season, in front of her mother.

I misheard the brand name.

I can't remember what joke I made, but it got a good reaction.

Apparently Christmas is coming.
Sunday we went to a live concert with Jeffery Straker. Lots of seasonal songs (hardly any 'sacred' ones though).
Monday was leffse making day.
Today was sausage roll baking day.
Still have mince tarts to make.
Thursday is youngest grand's Band Concert where we will hear his offering with his trombone.

Was to be having a social tonight.

Cancelled as those who were coming started pinging me re the roads. Guess they are bad around here and into KW.
Plus, there were those who were cancelling as have picked up the bug that is circulating.

Still anxiously listening for doorbell just in case anyone didn't get the update.

I was working on getting lunch prepared for the volunteers of the Red Cross equipment loan program tomorrow. 10 people including one vegan. Thankfully, no gluten free people anymore. Sandwiches are ordered and I made one extra for the vegan. Then made apricot and plum balls ( also vegan and GF). Pop and cookies are bought. Platter with cheese, meat and crackers.

Opening weekend on Saturday. We'll be there. Snow has never stopped the drive up in 47 years (maybe delayed it til Saturday morning once or twice). It's delayed a few Sunday night drives home, though.

It's gotten tougher as the OPP closes roads more frequently, but I've learned alternate routes that avoid closed highways. Hwy 10, like 124, are commonly closed in Ontario because they are windswept. Used to be the police would have to set up road blocks. Now they just flip a switch on a permanent sign in Shelburne.

I remember looking out the left side rear window to watch for fencing and trees to tell my dad if he was drifting left. My mom took the right side. Seems ludicrous in hindsight, but it's just what you did. Lighting on vehicles is so much better now, as are winter tires.

With some things better ... other things degrade ... tappe doubt ...

How to recover? recycle is discouraged by many powers who want NU ... creates some para Noia ... parallel worlds? ... on one side red (hunger) and the other yellow (fear has some Pi'doff) thus the duff ... duff; research that ... it may lead to wobble, weave and ripples! Poetic Neanderthal? Its a stared or initiation ... aboriginal?

Complex eh ... then the beas ...

Good Wednesday morning! We gather this morning, discussing the points of several different brands of custard, all of which would be marvellous over fresh gingerbread. Thanks ti Jayne and others who brought some with them! Today, with our tea and coffee we have some leftover gingerbread, as well as fresh cookies, made of various types to enjoy. The tea is ready, coffee is brewed, cookies and cake are warmed nicely. All is ready, all welcome, Come in and join the fun!

Three driveways done and helped out a kid with a nearby heavy windrow who was shoveling for profit.

Still going to hell of course, but should at least earn me seat in the non-smoking section.

Ah, Chansen, you still got that wrong. You have to commit your life to Christ, not to good deeds. You place in hell is probably an automatically refilling drive way you have to shovel with your bare hands for the rest of your afterlife.

Thing is, there are people who would literally think you're right. They walk among us. They vote. They drive. They procreate.

Driveway done. We're getting the hang of 3 cars in the driveway.

Batch (2 loaves) of poppy seed roll made. Has been pronounced perfect, but filling leaks so need some fine tuning. European deli sells ground poppy seeds,

@MrsAnteater, wish you were closer. Big guy says I am doing a good job of Xmas baking. So far, I do a competent lebkuchen, a poppy seed bread, a ground walnut roll and the vanilla shortbread made with almond flour.

German baking: nut heavy. English baking: fruit heavy.
I prefer nut heavy.
I suppose the German exception is Stollen. Not my favourite. Stollen is notthe equivalent to fruit cake, but more of a bread with dried fruit pieces in it. Besides that I am not a friend of those candied fruits, there is a story from the past going with stollen. When Germany was still divided, the East Germans who had relatives or friends in the west would send them wish lists for Christmas, often based on watching west TV ( which was illegal to doin East Germany). So they would wish for Tide laundry detergent because of the advertising ( no Tide in G, just as an example). So the western relatives would send Christmas parcels with those things, and coffee and sometimes oranges, which were also hard to get. At the border, the boarder agents would go through all the parcels and sometimes steal stuff. Despite it being so close, it could take weeks for the west parcel to arrive ( those orange would no longer look good). The Easterners would send parcels in return but they had limited options to gift. One thing they sent was Stollen. It would last really long, just dry out. My Advent memory is that of having very dried out Stollen that would sit even longer in the cupboard……I think my dad used to dip it in his coffee…
