My traditional waffle recipe doesn't use yeast, but does have fluffy egg whites added to the batter. They are quite good, and are a treat for any grand kid who sleeps over.

Wondering about waffle toppings. Real maple syrup is pretty good!

And we know they pair nicely with vanilla ice cream. Who remembers the waffle sandwiches at the CNE?

My mom always told me they were also available in the tunnel from Eaton's on Queen Street (Toronto) to Eatons Annex. Far, far back in the day I think.

how did the sale go
It went well...over 100 people, with 14 volunteers, lots of donations and baking. The happy children's faces were priceless. This is my favourite story: One little (probably 3 year old) girl was wandering around with a toy piano tucked proudly under her arm, before making her way to the wrapping table. When asked, she declared that it was a gift for her Dad. A volunteer shopping helper tried to point her in the direction of the many gifts we had that seemed more appropriate for Dads, but she shook her head with confidence. She knew that her Dad would just love that piano. I hope he appreciates the love that went into that gift![/

We get our maple syrup from a unmanned roadside stall on hwy 10 near Flesherton. I knownhis name is Ezra, but I've never met him. I leave $50 in the cash box and take a 4L jug every couple of years. My parents buy one every year.

I've yet to find someone who makes syrup better than Ezra.

Our previous neighbour had a sugar bush on some land he owned North of here (he had started life as a farmer but later owned a contracting business laying cable for telcos and cable companies). We sometimes got our syrup from him.

We get some from spiritual; speakers that supply at church ... demonstrates sapient properties! Is that wise leakage from the tree ... appearing as trickle down? Not much to the process ... given the growth at the crown! Sycamore Lane ... imagine what might be hidden in the shades ...

The PC maple syrup is a consistent good quality. I am most honoured when one of E.C. Drury's great grandsons gifts me with a litre from his yield. EC Drury was the Ontario Premier responsible for the development of the Simcoe County forests, and his ancestral farm is just a few km up the road from me. One of his canes rests near the hearth of his grandson's house, where I "do tea" regularly.

My great uncle George had a sugar bush near Havelock Ontario.

We would come home with huge tin containers of wonderful syrup. Memories of childhood

Just got back from Stratford after watching my granddaughter doing a violin Christmas recital with others in her class and younger ones too.
She's doing quite well. Next week I will go and watch/ listen to her in a full orchestra...can't wait.
She started off with piano but her true love developed into the violin.

Good Tuesday Morning! Talks abut waffles, the irons that make them, toppings for them, concerts and maple syrup, with other sweet thoughts that will come up today; all of them wait for us at the Coffee Cart where we meet, chat, and indulge, over hot beverages (soon to include hot chocolate for the season) and the baker's goodies. Today the baker has provided gingerbread cake, and (beware!) fruitcake to enjoy The tea water us boiling, coffee is brewed, and the cakes warn. All is ready, everyone is welcome. Come join the fun!

All this at once is miasma ... one at a time please ... all lined up for some foot to delineate ... like history shifts under the thumb ... smudged ...

Really what can you believe in a massive lay out that is primarily beyond us ... and early powers though it was all with us ... when there were mores ... additional layabouts ... heir forms that were fuzzy as Satyr ... what a mule ...

There's many hidden in the eastern forest ... a free for all? That because the wood is deep there ... secluding various monsters, critters and other wild visions ... the mafia even comes in with a heist of whole trailer loads ... implications? Eastern coyotes ... even Pan There ... always poor feed ... folk from across the pond declared criminal ... for stealing bread ... from the host? Burger or lan downer ... use care in holding your tongue ...

It is wonderful to see/hear kids enjoying making music. My youngest grand will be playing his trombone at a school event on Thursday.

I whipped up some birds eye custard to go with the gingerbread cake. It and the cake will stay warm in the room
In my family, the custard sauce was always made with Harry Horne's custard powder.

It appeared at Christmas time and also in the spring for the fresh stewed rhubarb.
