After all that being presented could we leave it to rest as if nothing was ... left ... remnants of cookies? They are all over the place ... bits!

This is a great place to find treats. Yesterday I make Yorkshire Teacakes with lots of added dried fruit. I recommend toasting one or two. There is also some Pincherry Jelly for those who have never tasted this treat.
Today I'm going to try making those weird things called English Muffins. I lived in England for 21 years and never saw or heard about these tings. There is a first time for everything I suppose. I;m pretty sure they will go well with Highbush Cranberry jelly or Gooseberry jam. I'll put some on the treat table as soon as they are baked.

Since clotted cream has been proferred, I will add some freshly baked currant scones to the Cart.

Lump'san all ...

There's this French dish with fries and cheese preliminaries ... Kurds ... I wonder about the Mediterranean health factor ... goats may be necessary ...

I bet some are turned off by text ure ...

I've put out some English Muffins - mainly because I said I would. They do't look like the ones from the store but taste ok. The toppings sound good though.

Had a good morning assisting at the hospital. Though it wasn't super busy, it was steady, so the time went by.

For Christmas this year, we are giving art supplies to my granddaughters, and son & daughter-in-law. A good friend is quite creative, so she offered to take me to buy supplies, and so, after a short visit getting an idea of things, we headed off to Michael's, as she taught me about the options, and got a great variety of decent art products. Then we went to Wyndham in Guelph, drooling over beautiful products. Finally, we sat and visited over dinner -- as if we hadn't talked about everything under the sun already.

It is so good to have time to spend with folks that fill your heart, that you can laugh about s**t with, and be honest with as well.

Jayne, what are your tasks at the hospital?
The signage at my hospital is so bad that my boss joked that when I retire, I could just volunteer to stand at the top of the stairs and direct people. ( I do this five times a day walking by there already) .

There are so many things that we do that are non sense, insane etc. because of the fact of pride in knowing everything ... when we don't ...

People will develop scams over such things and pass them on as false conspiracy so they can get and upper limb or foot upon on yah.

It is just how it goes down until pride goes. When? Be prepared ... even golden lions get grey in time ... a paler shade ... when getting to know something in passing! Is that all that difficult? Only when holding a strong opinion on the pride of knowing when ultimately we find everything is wrong ... in the eyes of autocrats!

Someone is bound to develop air under their wings in a great flap ... and then they are gone! That albatross thing ... like a sheet in the wind ... gone like a shot ...

Good morning, all! The weekend has arrived, hopefully with some time to do what you enjoy. Thanks to all those who contribute to the treats table; we all appreciate your efforts and creativity! Today we think of volunteers in health care institutions and in other places, and say 'thank you!' to them. They are appreciated!
As we gather round the festively decorated Coffee Cart today we think of how volunteers may have helped us at times. We look for ways we might in turn serve as volunteers, to spread that care and helpfulness.
Today, along with what you brought in yesterday, the Wonderbaker has created a large assortment of cookies for the season. Your favourite cookie is likely there somewhere!
The tea water is ready. Thee coffee is freshbrewed. Cookies and other treats are arrayed on the table. All is ready, everyone is welcome. Come join in the fun!

LOL. Hospitals and bad signage seem to go hand-in-hand. Though I find LHSC, which operates two of the three local acute care hospitals isn't too bad nowadays. Then again, I tend to always be going to the same places so maybe I just don't notice the signs anymore.

I have accepted that it is close to impossible for me to find my way around places like hospitals. Some signs are overhead, some at intersections, some on doors or walls. Most of them cannot be read by my failing eyes. At my local hospital I can get to the ER and the lb. Anything else has me asking for help. The big teaching hospital in the city used to have lots of highly visible volunteers prior to Covid. Now I have to take a helper to even get to the registration desk. The route changed between visits and left me floundering.

My current role is ER wayfinder.

We have a portable stand that has an all-in-one desktop with access to software that lists patients in ER.

My most frequent task is "way finder". The hospital is under construction so many people are unsure of how to get from the front door to imaging or other locations. They get some instructions as they enter, but, then they get to the ER hallway and you can see it in their face as they are looking for signage, or just not stepping out assuredly. So, I ask them if they need help, and send them on their way a bit more confident. I have built a cheat sheet of things I'm asked about, and every week there is something new. This task has a few positive impacts: reducing stress on people heading to appointments or to family member. Reducing interrupts for staff in ER.

Next task is "way finder" for patients. For people arriving at the ER, it is sometimes obvious who are people seeking medical care, but not always. So, I ask if they seek medical care, and if so, direct them in and to triage. Sometimes the person with them will have questions, like "how long can I leave my car at the ER entrance". My goal -- get them in and to triage as quickly as possible without added stress.

Next task is "way finder" for family of ER patients. This task is the one where I can add the most value, I think, though other tasks are also important. When that stressed person turns out to be a mother/father/husband/wife/sister/son/daughter/etc of an ER Patient, I quickly say "you're at the right spot". I ask the patient's name, and then locate where they are in the ER. If they came in by ambulance and are still in triage, I let the family know to take a seat in the waiting room, then i keep an eye on the app to see when the patient moves to a bed. If they are in the most critical zone, I go and ask the staff in that zone if the relative can come in at this time. Dependent on the answer, depends on next steps. If they are allowed to enter, or if the patient is in a different zone, I escort the support person to the patient. Patients are only allowed two support people by their beds so sometimes I have to advise family only two can enter, and wait until they figure it out. Also, when we get to the bed, if there already is a support person there, I wait until they decide who will leave, and escort them out. Staff appreciate that as they don't have to do it when trying to give care. When taking the person in, I do my best to reduce stress -- walking the right pace, telling them the bed #, ensuring when we get there that yes, that is their person. Sometimes, I get misc requests, like "i came to get the keys to move their car", and I have had two different folks arrive for the same task. Families are stressed, so again, goal is to reduce stress. Make sure all is well.

Next task is support for Triage. I can take a patient to registration, or to a bed -- doing a handoff to the zone nurses. I also can send items to the lab.

Most frequent is to just lighten the mood in the hallway. When I see frequent flyers -- patients that are there every week, then we smile, and say "i can see you know where you are going". Sometimes they love to chat back. You know the ones who are seeking such. For children, I am quick to point out the feet that they can follow on the way to imaging, which becomes a game. When patients leave ER via stretcher to go to imaging or the floor, they come through this hallway. It is a blind spot, so if I see one coming, and I see people walking, I do the "beep beep beep" of a truck backing up, and that gets a smile, and stops delays for the patient. I also will hold people back -- as sometimes people just aren't aware, and patient always should get priority. Sometimes it is just saying "you're going to be a welcome when you arrive" as you see someone who has been to Tim Horton's with a bunch of drinks and treats. Again, reduce stress is the goal.

I've been a patient and a caregiver often enough since I was 15 that I know the look of those who are carrying heavy weights. Sometimes, it is to just nod and acknowledge their presence.

I do a 3-hr stint, and help anywhere from 40-60 people per shift

The hospital is under construction
Aren't they all? :ROFLMAO: I find the ones around here are constantly having something done to them.

My weirdest hospital memory is when LHSC was winding down South Street here in London (it's now closed and the property is being developed for other uses) the sleep lab and our adjacent CPAP clinic were still in that campus. I had to go over to help with the IT gear in the clinic and it was like some kind of bad horror movie walking through semi-dark, mostly empty halls. Fortunately the then-manager (he's now our clinical lead), who is built like a football player, was with me so if any weird masked slashers were around, I imagine they kept their distance.:ROFLMAO:

Cambridge's hospital has finished the major construction project. It was a mess, and whilst it was going, I was escorted through the zones by volunteers. They still have helpful volunteers for escorts but, I think that repeat visitors now know the rhythm & flow.

If I remember correctly, Brantford has over 350 volunteers. They do everything from visiting, patient surveys, escorts, information desks, lottery ticket sales. Some are specialized, such as NICU volunteers (cuddlers) or oncology. I have found that many have worked in hospitals as nurses or as other support staff.
