Since Lucy died, I get very little actual exercise. However, if there's work to be done, which there always is around here, I go at it like a bull at a gate for short bursts, so I think I stay in sorta okay shape. Work helps as well, 13-15 hrs a week of standing twisting lifting interspersed with a little walking.

Not as long as the Big Guy lives with me. He is almost as allergic to cats and dogs as I, but unprepared to put up with the six months of allergic misery (rhinitis, itchy eyes and skin, wheezing and coughing) needed to make yourself immune to a specific dander of an individual critter.
 
Time for the annual Fall change to my routine. Once we switch times, it gets dark too early to walk after work so I'm back to using the stationary bike. Weekends, I can still walk in the afternoon if the weather is decent (which is basically a crapshoot in Fall in Southern Ontario). And soon, the weather will force me indoors semi-permanently. I still try to get a walk in now and then in the winter but between cold, ice, and snow there's a lot of reasons not to.
 
I haven't gotten back to fitness, focusing more on nutrition as of late. The weight is coming off, and the inches, but, I know how important fitness is for heart condition, etc.

I am trying to do a bit each day, reminding myself through applications with goal-setting.
Raking leaves, gardening, are two of the current ones; however, just thinking of doing basic stair climbing -- reason: I am nervous on stairs -- always afraid I will fall, so tend to go slow. With the weightloss, my balance should be better. Stair climbing is good exercise.
 
I don’t do stairs anymore after breaking my hip. I still have nerve pain twinges when I put my weight on it. Maybe kind of sideways, slow, holding on to the railing with both hands and a spotter present - I can manage to do that if I have to but it’s slow and painful and so if it’s not accessible I don’t go there. They don’t deserve me. And stairs don’t have to be necessary structures. They’re a human made problem. There are other options planners can plan. I’ve boycotted stairs.

I’m afraid of falling again too. I still have flashbacks.

Everything I do mobility-wise is a workout - I get a workout everyday getting showered dressed and out - already expending energy and burning calories. People don’t realize how much energy I expend before I even go out in public to do anything else. I guess I try not to look like it. The scooter saves energy - and that’s a good thing. It’s freeing. I’m waiting to be referred to physio again for strength and balance but there’s only so much improvement that can be expected and I accept that.

I have to clean and organize my room. Things are not in their right places at the moment. I’ve lost so many earbuds and lip balms and various small items waiting to be freed I must save them. I can’t find a scarf I just got 2 weeks ago. That will be an ordeal of a long workout even just mentally, but it needs doing.

I am dreadfully out of shape from years of COPD. When moving makes you gasp for breath you, of course, tend to not move. I recently was prescribed a portable 02 concentrator so I'm moving about more. It puzzles me that the medical folk try to keep you off 02. If I'd had this gadget back in the spring I would have been able to go for walks! It is now the cold snow and ice season and not safe for old ladies.

Those POCs are a godsend in the home O2 business. Battery powered so work through short power outages and buy us time to get people properly supplied with cylinders for longer ones. And no more having to supply cylinders just for mobility, only for backup.

And I have no idea why docs would be hesitant about referring for home O2. Though I don't know the funding situation out there. In Ontario, if you're over 65 or otherwise receiving provincial drug benefits, it's 100% funded as long as you meet certain medical criteria. So no financial hardship involved for patients. Maybe it's stingier in Saskatchewan?,

I was tested (again) and told I didn't qualify. My GP talked to me on the phone, and said he would look into it. The next day I was contacted by the 02 supplier and Ta Da! Apparently there are two standards for home 02 and the tester used the wrong one. . It was free to me and triggered a visit from an occupational therapist who checked my house for safety. . Grab bars etc. and they were already in place when we bought the house. Due to other health challenges she ordered a hospital style bed - again free.. I expect the items are loans, not gifts.

Yeah, we do that a lot. A doctor gets us out to assess a patient for eligibility, then faxes (yes, really) the scrip based on that. We can also look into what system makes the most sense as part of that, though most patients are on a combination of stationary concentrator + POC for mobility and backup. There's certain situations where we use liquid O2 as well (and we are one of the few providers in Ontario who'll handle liquid, so we literally have competitors sending patients to us because their case is best suited to using it).
 
Have never played, just seen it. I know the "tennis" courts on cruise ships (yes, they have those. There's netting around them to keep the balls in.) are kind of becoming pickleball courts nowadays given its popularity.

I say stuffy because it’s not much different from tennis noise and the courts are getting used - they were built to be used and after being pretty dormant, now they are -and people are getting exercise and having fun. We can’t have that! /s When I read about the noise complaints I thought, “Peak first world problems!”

Some people like to complain. I was surprised by people asking how I coped with the noise of living near a playground. Children playing isn't noise to me!
