He can sit in the visitors gallery, but not on the floor and has no way of directly speaking or asking question. This is not new (at least at the provincial level), though usually it is because of a leadership change and the newly elected leader has yet to run for a seat.
Which we just saw with the Liberals though the House didn't reconvene in time for Carney to have to do this. It's why sitting MPs have a bit of an edge in leadership races unless there's a strong outside candidate like Carney.

Info can be found here, @Jaebius :

You haven't received a dime because, as @Kimmio Laughterlove says, it's new. You might need to be a resident, though. Haven't read it through myself (not being in need of it myself).

And before anyone cries "ageism" in limited it to 18-64, 65 and up can already access OAS and GIS so this was targeted to people who are under the age to receive those.

Embarrassing for him. Though I’m sure he’ll get his MPs to ask the questions/ make the comments he wants.

July 2025, it starts, and you have to qualify for the Disability Tax Credit.

Sorry, Gord, I'm just chuckling at the thought of him stewing up in the visitor's gallery, perhaps quietly plotting his revenge

He can still appoint a shadow cabinet, too, which can mitigate it if handled well.
I don’t have confidence that they’ll handle things well. I hope Carney will but I’m not sure about him either because he said nothing about issues really important to me and many others and Lametti is still a confidant.

Makes sense. Saves them having to evaluate people twice. If you qualify for this, you get this is efficient.
Except it doesn’t make sense because it is very difficult to qualify for the DTC due to very narrow medical model interpretations. Some conditions, including some mental health and invisible disabilities, though they limit daily living activities significantly (which is the focus of provincial disability applications), are not considered severe enough according to the federal criteria so many people who qualify for provincial income supports and are struggling to survive on that, wouldn’t qualify for the CDB because the criteria are different.

From CTV last month.

And Global.

So it's definitely been talked about in the media.

Which is a good reason to fix the criteria, not change this approach.

Advocates were calling for $1000-2000/ month to lift people out of legislated poverty but the govt settled on $200 which doesn’t get people who rely on benefits to the poverty line in most places. It’s a start I guess. The deliberations on it took so long (while CERB took weeks and many disabled people were shut out of qualifying). We know if they want to, they can move fast, and be generous - but they didn’t want to. I didn’t think it would even happen. It did (even if inadequate at this point), and Elizabeth May was a strong voice for getting it done.

Hey if you ar in Alberta it will make no difference at all...the AB government will claw black the $200 to save money on AISH

Gotta love it when the feds and provinces work at cross-purposes. Smith is going to be a real PITA for Carney, I suspect. Moving to undermine him at every turn.
