Canadian election and other political stuff

Once again, this is how a Parliamentary system works. It is a feature, not a bug. Ours works this way. Britain's works this way. Other countries running on the British model (most of the Commonwealth, in fact and some other countries as well) work this way. The Prime Minister is not a directly elected executive Head of State like a US President. He is the Head of Government and is therefore chosen by the government, which is the party with the most seats in the House of Commons.

How is this democratic? We as voters choose the government by voting for our local MP. The party with the most MPs is the government. Their leader gets to be PM. That's democratic because the party in power is chosen by the voters, if somewhat indirectly. If anything is undemocratic, it's that our head of state is a hereditary monarch on loan from another country (King Charles III at present).

And, frankly, it is arguably no less democratic than the US system where the votes for the President actually go to the "Electoral College" who then choose the President. Due to how the college seats are allocated, once can win the popular vote but still lose on the electoral vote. How is that democratic?

So you are welcome to dislike Mr. Carney all you like. But he was chosen under the rules of our relatively democratic system and is therefore our PM.
Yuppers

There are a contingent of people who their worry is with the Davos crowd which they see links with HAARP, the Pandemic, global surveillance, smart cities, using catastrophic climate change to further control us, 15 minute cities, and so forth

Socialists I can see worry aboot him because of his love of Capitalism etc

We are living in an interesting time indeed...24/7 global stress with no end in sight

Thus we take what hope we can

Thus I see it even more important for people to have some kind of spiritual practice, a Way of Liberation

Thanks for continuing to be essentially our Ombudsape...level...the words of calm...

Umm, I did not do as you claim

So please. Stop.

The link I gave was the truth

I saw some misreporting on this issue

And tried to clear it up

So I did not post bad information

Please take your continued vendetta elsewhere...it is affecting your ability to parse truth

We will not communicate again

For the reasons I gave you

We certainly are in the heat of it

There is no shelter here
The front lines are everywhere

Eyes wide open

As more of us get involved, more mainstream Canadians will find themselves against what they deem the automatic Good powers of the world and Canada -- because they are part of the Big Problem

Then they should apply to become US citizens
Almost became one
Well an Oregonian
They certainly have something amazing going -- I never found oot what it was but I slowly went from Left Coast Canadian Nationalist to Patriotic Oregonian
Just showed me again Beliefs own people not the other way around
I remember every week there was the Down with Bush contingent on a highway corner

And the amazing Immigration Marches

Oregon and WA are never boring

In my household, that bans you from discussions about federal politics. No vote, no voice.
Provincial and smaller for me

The final straw was when our Parliament had that SS guy in with standing applause

Now I don't have to worry

Stay small
Local
Local food bank
Local green party
The legion
That sort of thing

Managable politics

Part of my self care I think

Gorsh, I still rememebr my first time ever voting

Went by myself

So nervous and dewy eyed

I think I spoiled the ballot because I thot it was which parties do I like/want?

Once again, I have reiterated that I am bugged by this feature.

And watching that angry person who is the President of our only nation-state neighbour, geographically, has convinced you of the superiority of the U.S. model? That's a bit of a stretch.

And I am a bit miffed at myself for getting so upset about the stupid nickname. I'm reading Robert Harris's Munich, about the outset of WW2, and the contrast between the language of today and yesterday is distressing to me. But I also confess to occasionally enjoying calling the U.S. President the orange felon, so mea culpa; I'm a hypocrite.

It is a bit of stretch to assume that I am convinced of the superiority of the U.S. model because I am not keen on the Canadian model. Neither of these two models are operating with the best interests of their citizens as their top priority IMO. Public servants in both countries have been caught up in political scandals and corruption without being accountable to their citizens.

So, why are you griping?
I prefer to refer to it as Freedom of Expression.

So, because the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms protects a number of rights and freedoms, including freedom of expression and the right to equality.

And, because the Charter forms part of the Constitution – the highest law in all of Canada – and is one of the country’s greatest accomplishments - is it not?

It is a bit of stretch to assume that I am convinced of the superiority of the U.S. model because I am not keen on the Canadian model.

Maybe but between the two models they sort of cover all of the world's democratic models, so one wonders what you might approve of...
