0.3% of the Canadian population (129k/41M) voted to install Prime Minister Mark Carney.

And yet again, Rita displays her stunning miscomprehension of the Canadian system of parliamentary democracy modelled on the British model, not a republic like the nation-state to our southern border. It is making me seriously doubt the ability of at least one of our provinces to teach basic civics

The Party in power is entitled to vote for their leader, and they've been doing so since our system of parliamentary democracy was adopted. Canadians DO NOT VOTE FOR A PRIME MINISTER. THEY VOTE FOR A POLITICAL PARTY.

And again, if you don't like it, do something constructive to change it, or move somewhere that has a system you prefer.

Glad you beat me to it. Well explained, especially the shout-y part. :giggle:

Good words
Again we can all benefit from this
When some of us get almost helpless worried over Catastrophic Climate Change or the current Muskrat capades or the Ukraine War or Gaza or Pronoun Usage or microplastics everywhere or too loud [whichever group we are concerned aboot], or the Ottawa Truckers etc

Rita, like us, is very concerned, like us, aboot certain things happening in the world

Some of it we have no control over so we have to Trust in Goddess essentially

I have tried to proffer help here in my lil burg, when I see someone fuming or despairing...the Big Picture can inflict what my wife called the Scary Picture Museum...I have helped some people here just by wearing glitter in Winter...

The outcome is as I expected, and the best result for anyone who wants change.

The Liberals just selected a leader who cares less about Canadians than even Trudeau did.

I hope he calls a snap election ASAP.

There is NO evidence that Trudeau did not care about Canadians.. There is plenty of evidence to the contrary (pharma care, child care, pandemic response...).

ARe there people with a different vision? Of Course. that is not remotely the same as not caring about the country or its people.

Right, it isn't an either/or thing

As usual, we tend to pay attention/put more weight behind whatever someone from.our In Group does/says than someone from our Out Group

So despite his adminiatration being wrong aboot enacting the War Measure's Act (eg was found to break the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, was not justified and didn't meet the specific criteria, some Canadians he cared enuf to violate their rights, some he cared enuf to violate our Charter etc) and his various kerfuffles, sombunall people are still ok with him

And there are people who put weight towards Trudeau being part of a global problem

The world has a lot.of.problems

And we all don't have to focus on them all

Thank goodness

I read his book Values a couple year ago and was impressed but even by then some of what he was saying about how the world was approaching things like COVID and the CLimate Crisis were becoming out-of-date and he seemed overly optimistic about moving forward in a collective fashion. (Book 7 of 2023 -- Value(s): Building a Better World for All)

I am uncertain, having not really paid a lot of attention to the leadership race. I have a feeling Freeland was punished for daring to challenge the official line. My preference would actually have been for Justin to step down 18 months earlier (and not have called the meaningless last election when he did) to allow a cleaner transition of power. At that time I saw Freeland as a viable replacement.

Politic 'n is mire and dirty!

As far as voters knowing what they do ... the populace is encouraged to know nothing as the knowledge tree is biblically foul ...

I've been told but ministers of the fabric that I am not to think or give people information ... as intellect is bad in the shade of shadowy emotions with a pall over it ... ah palling! We don't even know the word(s) given as god ... encouraged to be stupid about it ...

Just investigate the speech and writ ... it is often mysteriously wrong compared to classic positions ...

Please explain Ukrainian fascism. I haven't heard that term before.
Ukranian fascism is the leftovers of Ukrainian Nazis. Racist. Authoritarian. Freeland's grandfather was a Nazi collaborator. He was also an inspiration for her. Many Ukrainian soldiers wore swastikas on their uniforms. The symbol for Ukrainian fascists was on a banner behind her in one of her public appearances proclaiming support for Ukraine. Last year a memorial was put up in Ukraine honouring a Ukrainian Nazi.

Similar memorials have been put up in Canada.

Agreed, and if what we are concerned about is the base system of parliamentary democracy in the country in which we live, then maybe we need to re-think talking as if our words can change a millennial-old system. *shakes head*

Elbows up

Just heard aboot this today -- I might visit the local print shoppe and see aboot getting some material printed

Maybe even get some kind of poppy related thing but with a Canadian flag?

Different people will try oot different things

Some people are concerned aboot Davos and its seeming attempt to circumvent our Parliamentary Democracy

Some people are concerned with Mump making our Parliamentary Democracy a thing of the past

Some people are concerned aboot Nuclear War making our Parliamentary Democracy a thing of the past

Some are very concerned aboot the next plague making our Parliamentary Democracy a thing of the past

Or Catastrophic Climate Change making our Parliamentary Democracy a thing of the past

Or an asteroid making our Parliamentary Democracy a thing of the past

Or rampant distrust of government making our Parliamentary Democracy a thing of the past

And so forth

I know people from different "camps", different concerns, who also have different ways of "dealing with it"

I don't think there is one way of dealing with it. We each have different talents. Different characters. Maybe Canadians will have to, as a whole, stop being so passive?

(my guess is more will have to learn asymmetry...we are dealing with very powerful forces)

I think one of the things that is happeneing is more people are waking up, seeing the various machinations and evil that goes on in the world and they can't ignore it anymore like in the past?

(fits in with one of my historical wishes; wishing more people would be able to see more wholly Canada, both the horrors and the nobilty...)

There are many problems

Many puzzles to solve

Me? Most of it is too big and complex for me. So I listen to my friend B. And help the locals. Feed the birds.

How is it going in your neck of the woods?

"liberals think we havent achieved enough technological advancement

marxists believe we need to resolve class conflict

anarchists think we just need to get rid of coercive authority

conservatives just want the natural hierarchy back and the Return of the King

Psychoanalyists go on about killing our fathers

There's something to be said for all of these"
--Damien Walter, Marxist filmmaker, on What is Wrong With the World

Some folks feel that brute force (without intelligence) is best so one can mow through the resistance to corruption ... corruption is a powerful thing (noumena) that will show us the way out ... and thus the beyond world! We cannot abide with this ONE ... thus essence and gases ... and flaming bursts! There are semitic expressions ... fire roue? Like a Golden Brick road? Decontamination ovens ...
