Can you ride it to work on good weather days?
Tried that today. 26 minutes door to door. By car- 17 minutes. The ride is along an old railway track made walking trail, part of it even asphalt. Could be a bit lonely- scary? -early in the morning.
Took the way through the business centre on the way back and picked up lunch as Superstore. Bike rack could accommodate my cooler.

Funny how the attitude changes once one becomes a car owner. In my 20 ties, 30 minute bike ride to work, rain or shine or snow, was normal. That would have been along side streets.
I saw a flock of Canada geese on my ride today- is it already time for that?

I demoed a e-MTB a while back. It was really impressive how the motor sort of multiplied your efforts, seamlessly. This means you can make the rides a workout on the low setting, or relatively effortless on high. You'll deplete the battery faster on high of course, but battery storage keeps improving. I can see it being a great option for commuting. You can even get metal studded tires for the winter.

It's not my preference for trail riding as the weight is a problem to manouever, but for getting around, I think they're brilliant. Like everything bike related, the cost is a major hurdle, but the relatively low running cost will help. That cost isn't in the charging - it's the labour. People do have to realize they require maintenance to protect that investment, especially if used through rain and snow. Bikes are not maintenance-free and last so much longer with frequent clean and lubrication, plus yearly overhauls.

I'm terrible at this, btw. I do my own wrenching, but I'm not always on top of it.

Imagine as technology increases the populace gets more unknowing about how to maintain ... thus we don't!

Deficiency causes enigmas as we go downhill ...

Or perhaps a lovely peaceful way to start your day :giggle: You might also be surprised by how many dog walkers might be out early in the morning.

My sister, the motorcycle instructor, really disagrees with the use of e-bikes in traffic for commuting. As she points out, if you've got to get out of the way, fast, you don't have the power to do so.

I would honestly like one as an alternative to taking my car to work. It's not that far, but there's a steepish hill on the way home, which my poor old back and feet don't like after standing for 5 hours.

One of the great things about Mtl is that it is one of the most cycling friendly cities in the world. You can rent ebikes here, which I think is better than owning for the price. Bike theft is bad. Almost doesn't make sense to purchase one. Each neighbourhood has dedicated pick up/drop off racks and a selection of conveyances. Main thoroughways all have bike lanes. Everyone rides here. Even out of shape old people.

Montreal's a nice place to bike. My city, not so much. It's built around the bay of a very deep lake with a very deep basin, so it's very hilly. And a 400 series highway takes the flattest route right through it, so not easy to navigate. My kids, who would both be described as "natural" bike types, found it difficult. My daughter used her bike all the time when she lived in Peterborough, which is similarly flattish, with lots of bike lanes, to Montreal.

I was really impressed with Calgary as a bike-friendly city - SO many bike lanes & trails, separated from traffic - "In fact, Calgary has the most extensive urban pathway and bikeway network in North America. The City maintains approximately 1000 km of regional pathways and 96 km of trails."

They also have an extraordinary e-scooter programme & those go on the bike lanes. Once registered in the programme, you can pick up scooters from all over the city - ride to where you're going & just leave it there. They are not returned to 'stations' as many such bike programmes are. They all have some sort of GPS locator, so they can be picked up the next person & off they go. They get picked up by staff periodically & redistributed. It was quite amazing.

How is it any worse than a bike for that?

Good morning! As we think of bikes, e-bikes, readiness of cities for bikes (or unreadiness), let us gather round the coffee cart, and create suggestions for municipalities to improve bike paths, and be more ready for the coming wave of bikes and e-bikes. After all, this wouldn't be the first movement fueled by caffeine.

As of yesterday. Actually officially Sat I had first symptom - stiff sore neck I attributed to most likely the degenerated disk I have and sleeping awkwardly. Wasn’t until last night symptoms - nose got more plugged and runny over several hours - were persistent enough for to me to take a test.

Grumpy? You may take part in that movie with the ancient ones ... fishermen looking for the big one ...

Thus many of us are outed ...

I lost it on the 4 rum game when told not to drink the complex booty in ... thus kicked off a thought ... as thoughts are denied in domains of intent! There I call for relief and thus recess ... becoming latent ... if you can grasp what follows as past history ... like 1984! Dissociative behaviour in theory ... indicated as icon of deviation and all took the dive ... mire come down?

Occurs even w/o thought! consequence of a vast great hole that we're caught up in and cannot define its extent as the indeterminate infinitive! Dippy? I would believe so ... as a humble opinion leaving the hubris ass ide ... something one needs to face! Expect laughter as you drove it there ...

Stiff and sore neck is a Covid symptom. I didn’t know that. Wouldn’t have occurred to me until I looked it up.
I have had problems with my neck for more than a decade so I would never attribute a stiff, sore neck to anything other than having a stiff, sore neck :ROFLMAO: . For me, it was developing a mild cough less than 24 hours after my wife came down with it that prompted me to test again (I had already tested and was negative the previous day when Mrs. M first tested positive). It escalated from there (fever, headache, worsening cough) and the worst part lasted about three days.
