Nancy - I add hugs to you and your partner. Maybe if several of us do that it will be a bit like a bug hug. Having worrisome things to consider is never pleasant.
Mendalla - hernia news for you eh. I have one at my belly button that is slowly getting bigger. No major pain though. Surgery was being arranged right before Covid but didn't actually happen. Since then most of my medical appointments have been with heart, lung and infectious disease specialists so I didn't bother mentioning the hernia! Will have to get it fixed sometime, I suppose.

Good morning. Today is promising to be much cooler, a lovely 22 degrees. We've had four mice in our home since we've been in this park. Mr Northwind has set traps and caught them. He's also plugged holes they seem to be using to enter. The traps are still there so if any of the little buggars remain, they will meet their end. I don't like the idea of killing animals. I don't like living with them more so hubby can continue his task. :)
 
Today's mystery (or lost & found challenge) is a rather expensive baby stroller that somebody left on the sidewalk in front of my house this morning. People often park on our street to go the local farmer's market, and I suspect a parent got the kids into their vehicle & just forgot to load the stroller. I've posted on our local fb groups, but so far nobody has returned to claim it. I imagine the parent just doesn't realize yet that it's been left behind. :( I've now moved it off the sidewalk onto my front steps, hoping to keep it 'safe' until its family comes to claim it.
 
Nice bike ride this morning. Nothing too dramatic, maybe 15-16km but we were trying out our new hitch-mounted bike carrier so it was a section of the trail we haven't ridden in the past, just walked. Hopefully, we can leverage this new addition to our SUV to start biking some trails further afield. We've kind of done most of the ones we can reach just by biking there. Mrs. M is in a biking group (retirement activity) and was getting tired of hefting her bike into the back.

New staff starting Monday. This hire was a long slog so if he works out, I am going to work hard at keeping him. Seemed like a nice guy in the interview and definitely has the skills I need. I am getting so sick of constantly hiring (though I got lucky with one and was able to hire back a former co-op student) and our recruiter says this is the worst recruiting environment he has seen in 25 years in HR. Ugh.

So that's my day and upcoming week.
 
Saturday Afternoon at the Opera had a beloved recording on this afternoon: Maria Callas singing Lucia Di Lammermoor (I think the first opera I ever saw live), a 1958 recording. Very clean. Callas was superb. One of my Mother's heroines. (And with the magic that is many time zones, I worked until 5:30, and switched to Victoria time on CBC when I got home, LOL.)

Callas singing Lucia would be divine. Never heard her do it but I have not listened to much Callas since I left home (I think Dad had some recordings of her).

Could also be a method to steal. We get a lot of it in our neighbourhood, mostly bikes. People will steal a bike and use it to get away with other things they stole and then drop the bike elsehwere. Things do fit nicely into a stroller.
Hopefully it's just the case of something forgotten!
 
Returned home today from Baie St. Paul in the Charlevoix. First side trip was to Chutes Montmorency park just east of Quebec city. A disappointment was that the cable car was not operating. Second side trip was to downtown Trois Rivieres. Had supper there at a Mez Cal place. Chorizo tacos for me and vegetarian tacos and a Margarita for B. I suspect the cook was taking a lunch break when we ordered because it took almost an hour.

Drive felt long, about 460 km.
 
I got an e-bike loan today. It’s part of a,project by the Ecological Action centre in Halifax. They got six e-bikes and have been loaning them,out to businesses for their employees and this year to anybody interested. It was quite the process to get it- online bike safety course, sign a waiver, $200 and then show up to a 2 hrs introduction today with practice riding and signalling and at the end we got to take them home for five weeks.
I had junior put a hitch on my car so I could bring our bike rack. Turned out, the bike didn’t fit on it and we had a heck of a time to get it into the trunk. Nothing that I will do too often. Which is disappointing, because I had planned to explore some trails in different parts of NS in my upcoming vacation. It is 53 lbs heavy.
However, with all the hills in the valley, it clearly is great to make it up the hill not huffing and puffing too much- one can choose how much support one gets, so can still have a workout.
 
I am truly blessed to have been able to spend a portion of the rest of my life with you all

Can you ride it to work on good weather days?
 
I demoed a e-MTB a while back. It was really impressive how the motor sort of multiplied your efforts, seamlessly. This means you can make the rides a workout on the low setting, or relatively effortless on high. You'll deplete the battery faster on high of course, but battery storage keeps improving. I can see it being a great option for commuting. You can even get metal studded tires for the winter.

It's not my preference for trail riding as the weight is a problem to manouever, but for getting around, I think they're brilliant. Like everything bike related, the cost is a major hurdle, but the relatively low running cost will help. That cost isn't in the charging - it's the labour. People do have to realize they require maintenance to protect that investment, especially if used through rain and snow. Bikes are not maintenance-free and last so much longer with frequent clean and lubrication, plus yearly overhauls.

I'm terrible at this, btw. I do my own wrenching, but I'm not always on top of it.
