How fun is that pinga - a month of phone calls! Terrific idea - we could all use that sort of pick-me-up I think, especially in the depth of dreary winter weather.

Did you decide on a cocktail or theme for your euchre night? Just curious ...

I went with a coconut rum punch last time, with a reggae theme. I think I will go with the Beach Boys theme though I was pondering ski lodge.

Ski lodge is interesting - I like that! Have you ever made ice lanterns? Put buckets of water out overnight & then in the morning empty the ice cylinder out, smack the centre with a hammer if totally frozen over, to release water still unfrozen in the centre. Then pop a candle into it - they are beautifully twinkly - could put a few outside your front door or around the yard.

Those light lanterns are awesome. I think my Mom stuck a can in the centre of hers to create the hole for the candle. Our dollarstore have sometimes had the moulds.

You could also make the marshmellow ski guys that were so popular around Christmas time.

Have you seen the frozen water balloons? I saw it on Facebook and they were really cool. If you google it you can watch videos, etc - basically you fill a balloon with water and put in some food colouring toss it outside (as long as you're not in BC :) and it will freeze and create beautiful marbles.

I think both projects are location dependent, with the lanterns there might not be any liquid water left if you tried doing it in Manitoba overnight right now!

Well, @Justme , I thought of you when I woke up this morning. Fell asleep on the couch, woke up at 3:30, washroom trip, and crawled into bed until I woke at 6:30am. My sister & I used to laugh that we were likely both up at the same time.

Gentle caring hugs to everyone who is grieving on a significant date in this month. I find it amazing how my body knows these things even when my brain hasn't acknowledged that there is something 'special' about the day. It took me a while to recognise that my late brother's birthday was the probable cause of my distress a few days ago. Spending some time in remembrance helped a lot.

Gentle hugs too to those who have health issues, whether temporary or ongoing, and also to those dealing with family difficulties of various kinds.

Take care of yourselves and your loved ones everybody!.

Today would have been my Mom's 98th Birthday if she were still here (she passed away 17 years ago) . . . and although I miss her still, my thoughts and memories are filled with happy ones today :).

It's lunar new year - a distraction perhaps from some of our collective sadness this week ... so I've invited my friends Ada & Cam to come make us some dumplings ... dig in! Seems I can't embed the video - so just a link instead ... http://globalnews.ca/video/1839294/cam-and-ada-show-us-some-delicious-food-for-chinese-new-year

I have made homemade dumplings but not in a very long time. Mrs. M would make the filling and then we would work together (sometimes with guests) to fold them.

I got my comprehensive med review - partially. I will be going back.
I had low expectations going in, there's little information about this anywhere, it wasn't listed of the services (and that list was province based), and when I made the appointment today I was told it's basically the same thing they do all time - ask if you have any questions when you get meds, but just doing it with everything. They also do not go to your home, and the only time I had heard of anyone doing this before, that was the case.

The pharmacist basically got ALL my medications - luckily I had a good list made up going in. She took notes as that was listed, and then she got all my questions. She also took photocopies of some of the health info I carry around with me. When I booked this, I had already mentioned berinert, as I know it's not in the system, so she had already familiarized herself with it. She will look into things so more to answer all my questions. We can also get a good med list made up for me (finally) that isn't something I need to do myself all the time due to different pharmacies. There will also be more ongoing services - like checks/reminders about things to look for a few days after starting something new, so I have that help when I might not be at my sharpest.

The annoying thing - the lack of advertisement and availability. The province only covers this for people with specific medical conditions/risks, and you need to be on so many medications that fall under a certain class. The conditions are basic, common things - diabetes, asthma or being obese. The people who really need this service IMO are those who have the more unusual issues. I find my asthma (which has been quite severe for periods) is much easier to handle than HAE. Drug interactions are known, resources are out there for the common stuff. When you're getting a medication from a specialty pharmacy I think certain risks go up. Also - this is seen as a prevention method, usually that means it helps save some health care money in the end. I think this should be strongly promoted, and those who qualify should be encouraged to be doing this. Pretty pathetic that even when seeking information out I didn't see much! If this wasn't fully covered, I would have been willing to pay if I knew going in it would be this good.

Haven't helped made dumplings - mandoo - since the last time I was in South Korea.

Never had homemade dumplings - but I'm guessing they are much better than the average Chinese restaurant's?

Chemguy is napping right now. He came home a bit early. He's been off for a few days, complaining of a stuffed nose and a sore throat but he still seemed healthy. Not anymore. I'm hoping I can avoid this one, but since it didn't hit hard and fast I'm guessing I'm probably already incubating it :( At least this seems to just be a cold, not a flu.

Probably not too late to get out your neti pot and take a few Cold Fx if you do those things.
I keep up with a sinus rinse. Different than a neti pot, but similar idea. I never used a neti pot, and my ENT as actually against them now, due to safer and easier options. I used to use Cold Fx, didn't seem to do much for me. I'll get going with my inhalers though and will pay more attention to my breathing.
The sore throat is really the stressful thing for me. If I get hit, there's no way of knowing if it's just the cold causing symptoms. Even people who have been diagnosed for years don't pick up on their throat attacks well all the time when sick. I'll probably just bump up my med frequency and keep doing so if I keep noticing short term improvements.
