I still follow the auto scene to some degree (less than I used to) so I knew about the Rolls SUV. Most of the big European luxury and sports brands have at least one now.
The whole SUV trend is just mindblowing. I remember when it was just something outdoorsy types or people who needed something with more towing capacity than a sedan or wagon owned (I'm talking seventies and eighties, when Jeeps and the odd Chevy Blazer and original Ford Bronco were the common examples). Now it is getting hard to get an actual car in some classes. While I do like my Honda CR-V (with the current small turbo engine, it isn't much worse for mileage and emissions than a Civic sedan), I still prefer sedans when push comes to shove so I am watching this trend with dismay.
I think luxury cars are obscene to start with. I could easily afford a Mercedes or Bimmer but just can't see my way to spending that kind of money on a car that mechanically and in terms of the features I want/need isn't really any better than a $25-30K compact like the Civic or Corolla. If I'm going to splurge on a car this time, it'll be to get an EV, not more luxury. And I'm waffling even on that given that my garage doesn't have 220V so I'm limited to Level 1 charging. Might just stick with the Civic when I finally get a new second car.
