Kamloops and the residential schools in general

I am observing the reactions of the average Canadian with interest. My younger ( in their late 30 ties/ 40 ties), colleagues show signs of “ I don’t deny bad things happened, but they had good intentions”- and “ back then a lot of kids/ people die, they can’t all have been murdered” and “ I am so tired of all the bad news, Covid and residential schools” and “it’s been a long time, they are really blowing this up right now”.

I am comparing this to the reaction in Germany. My and the following generation were dumped with pictures of mass graves and thin jews rescued when the concentration camps were liberated. While my generation never developed a “ healthy” pride of being German, the next generation had a good chunk of people who were longing for this, requesting to no longer be bothered with the past.
When I heard about kids in residential schools being called not by names but by numbers, the similarity hit me. Concentration Camp inmates had their number tatooed on their arms and were told they are send to work camps- which they actually were at the beginning. Residential school inmates were told they are getting an education.
Both survivors of concentration camps as well as of residential schools did not speak about their experience for a long time, but their experience damaged their families for generations to come.

Bad news is just not assimilated well by conservative republican types that would sooner things stayed the same ... if they altered we would have to gain understanding of the alter ... and that is off limits of present humor!

Thus the cosmological aspect of the darker shades of pail ... ironic vessels? Now we are not in the iron age but the electronic age and just don't get it that well ...

Systemic corruption is a funny thing no? Given how it creeps up as dark and ode ... and generally unknown as some powers strictly say you shouldn't be aware of lengthy peculiarities! Thus cosmological deficiencies ... vast denials and voids!

It does provide a place for the remnants ... of primal mental observations in the case that the psyche is said not to be ... and poof ... there it wasn't! Some be get'n IT ... some naught! Such is a sacrament of wisdom done gone ... pede detraction! Tough pedantic ... ahrd to learn much in the present situation when so many are contrary to the nu's!

What's a nu? That's another myth that escapes most ...

I have a lot of Catholic family members. They are good and decent people.

I, personally, blame their hierarchical, patriarchal system. There's a whole bunch of checks and balances missing. The whole thing is run by a cabal of celibate males with a supreme leader. I can't imagine a better recipe for disaster.

Contrast it with the UCC system. A "moderator", chosen by a wide group of voting representatives of every congregation, every three years. The UCC seems to figure out that we have to balance gender, orientation, cultural background (anyone want to bet that the next moderator will be indigenous?). The "Secretary" of the UCC has some natural "administrative" power, but one will note that the current secretary is black, the former was a woman/gender fluid, so we work on that.

Precisely this. I can't think of a bad person among the RCs I have known, but there's a reason the US was so focussed on check and balances in their constitution. Absolutist systems with no such system inevitably became oppressive and corrupt. And it is not like this is news where the Vatican is concerned. The early reformers like Luther had good reasons for wanting to break with the church hierarchy. What is surprising is that the Vatican is almost the last remaining absolutist system in the Western world. All the other absolute monarchies either were nerfed into constitutional monarchies (Britain, Spain, Netherlands) or dumped altogether (Germany, France).

Wherever you go in human altered system ... hierarchy is created as they do believe they are better than things unnaturally encountered in mindful transcendence ... thus I find myself awash in itt ... a nitt picking situation!

Listened to this on the CBC last week. It was funny in a way but, importantly, a reminder that no one is completely powerless if they have others support them. I keep thinking of the line in the Disney movie, Ants, in which the boss grasshoppper shows his followers the danger of the ants deciding to act collectively. As long as the economic elite tricks others into fighting each other, their power is sort of safe. The same applies to other people with power.
