The thing is, something like that might do a better job of bringing it home to them. No one can really picture themselves on O2 or a ventilator, but not being able to smell or taste and how hellish that could make your life is something easier to relate to.

I've spent most of the past few days prepping for my employer's next foray into the wonderful world of COVID. No longer are we just providing oxygen to discharged COVID patients, now we are helping a major GTA hospital monitor acute COVID patients at home in hopes of saving hospital beds for the truly dire cases. It's been a mad scramble but I guess if we can help a few COVID patients avoid a hospital stay, it might be worth the effort.
 
It's particularly unpleasant if you cook for others. I'm capable of taste-testing, at least for salt, these days, but the first almost-year, until I got some slight sense of smell back, I was continually having to ask my daughter (who, was, fortunately, living with me at the time) to check stuff I'd made for others.

Or just make them all suffer through.

That is a scary thought, considering how quickly condition can turn to the worse. I am remembering a young friend of a friend in Germany who was isolating home alone and was found dead in the first week...

That's why we and the hospital respirology program are monitoring them. The respirologist talks to them in the morning, and our RT contacts them in the afternoon to take their sats (virtual care with a remote oximeter). If the sat goes below a certain level, they are told to go to ER and we contact the respirologist to let them know the person is coming in. Or something like that. I'm not directly involved in the clinical part, just creating an IT infrastructure to support it on our side.
 
We had a covid safe campfire with our neighbours tonight. It involved pizza and good conversation. The guys went out to walk the dog. The park is full of weekend campers. Apparently one truck has a sign in the windshield that says "covid". I was shocked to find that distressing even though I can easily maintain my distance from the folks in that site.

As you can see, it was a lovely evening

Good morning! Time to rise and shine! Or at least rise. As we contemplate the ongoing pandemic, with symptoms of various degrees of serious, let us gather round the coffee cart (2 meters apart, of course) and enjoy conversation and camaraderie. (in Tim Horton measurements, that works to 47 Timbits apart)

It is ridiculous that a campfire outside where you can maintain distance from another couple is no longer allowed. Some of the Ontario restrictions make little sense.
 
The birth of my first cousin, twice-removed, is apparently imminent. My cuz (this is the favorite one, with whom I have spent many a happy hour on a canal boat) is OVER THE MOON with excitement. His lovely daughter looked like a beached whale a couple of weeks ago in her FB shares, so not surprised.

Hi everybody! The seasons continue to behave seasonally too. We are back to snow this morning. On the plus side - neither of us can think of any reason to go outside.

We might have snow in Ottawa on Wednesday and Thursday, and here I was laughing at people in Winnipeg who are still buried in the white thing...

Yeah, it's going down to single digits here mid-week and you're further North so...have fun!! :giggle: My son was born in late March after a rough winter (we were in Hamilton then) and I think we had one more dump after his birth, maybe very end of March or beginning of April.

The latest I have seen snow (save when up in a mountain area or visiting a place like Alaska) was my birthday (May). That was in Halifax with Mrs. M was teaching at Dal.
 
Now would be a good time to buy bug spray for Ottawa spring weather. They don’t get monster mosquitos like Winnipeg it they get tons
