How was church today?

Welcome to Wondercafe2!

A community where we discuss, share, and have some fun together. Join today and become a part of it!

I thought we had a Wonderconnection in the Ottawa area. You and Jim should definitely look each other up once you get settled there. Maybe we can organize a Wondergathering somewhere when I'm up seeing my son.
That would be lovely!

I recently did some analysis of livestreaming, getting input from various UCCan congregations across the country. I was surprised at the variety, but also at the pushback from some for even asking.

I particularly appreciated the services from Canadian Memorial United out of that I got to watch.

I am not into contemporary worship, but Canadian Memorial is definitely a very much alive church.

At our church, we live stream from the sanctuary every Sunday morning - afterwards, we hop into zoom to have the prayers of the people and the blessing. Attendance is keeping surprisingly high, with as many as 150 devices watching and then joining zoom (with many devices having more than 1 person connected). The sermon was good, especially the final part where we listened to pre-recorded monologues imagining the disappointed or doubtful reactions of the crowd to Jesus entering Jerusalem in a donkey.
During the zoom time, we had a sending blessing for us. I will definitely miss this congregation—one of the hardest parts of moving.

Enjoyed the service, thanks!

We found Sonny's about 5 or 6 weeks ago just east of IKEA. Good food, losts of space, not very busy either time we have eaten there.

What about contemporary elements in a more traditional liturgy? The service Mrs. M watched opened with a gospel trio. Kind of felt weird in a huge cathedral but I kind of appreciated the contemporary touch in an otherwise old school service.

I've just re-watched it. The dialogue between Susan and I, with the monologues in the middle, was really effective. We impress me. There was a bit of frigging jumping to get that lapel mic sanitized and back on between users.

re the Ottawa connection and a get-together....We go that way once or twice a year in normal times. My husband's family is from near Ottawa, and I have family on my father's side in the area. (ancestors settled Hull, formerly Wrightville, now Gatineau, what does that say about us?)

Christ First Mississauga (Peel Region) has been pre-recording services since March 2020. Two services (contemporary and traditional) every Sunday. Given that Peel Region (and Toronto) has had the highest number of consecutive 'stay at home' ordered days of anywhere in North America -live streaming services has not been an option. With my pandemic sleeping patterns I like the option of watching church early on a Sunday morning! We do have a live zoom coffee hour at noon on Sundays.
