Yup, that is what I have heard and surmised from early on.
Part of our challenge in northern climates is our air systems and enclosed spaces.

I read an interesting article, that I can no longer find. ( isn’t that frustrating?). But it was about why Africa and A few other nations have been less hit than expected

of course there is lots of speculation. but An interesting comment was that life is lived outdoors. Sleeping, cooking, living..... it may be many people living together but it is often outdoors. No even in cities, there is minimal air conditioning. So it is windows open, sleeping on balconies, fans........

whereas much of the world lives indoors and uses AC. We have buildings that don’t open windows. For safety and at the time for energy efficiency

interesting difference
My wife has been cursing our culture of closed windows for as long as I have known her. We are often running with open windows well past the point where neighbours have closed theirs and turned on the AC. And she hates that my office doesn't even have a window, let alone one that can open (I'm in an interior part of our unit for proximity to the computer room).

I started opening windows in the middle of winter and turned down the heat a year ago.
But this is also a conundrom in LTC homes where the residents like to keep warm.

Why not something like you must wear a mask to enter, if you cannot wear one, we offer online services or phone customer service number for help.
Surely everyone knows how to access stores after a whole year of this?
I am one of the many who struggle with a mask. I can only handle a few minutes- so I plan a quick visit to stores. Those who can afford it can get delivery for groceries etc.. In this community one can call a service club, church, friend or neighbour and ask for help.

Maybe living in a small community is a plus during pandemics? If I needed any items or service I would be able to access it by phoning ahead. People using mobility scooters manage to do their shopping, medical visits etc. A parent with an autistic child copes by using the phone and keeping her child away from overwhelming situations. There are as many 'fixes' as there are 'problems'.

So, I have to take the car in for an inspection (it's a warranty thing). They have a list of protocols in the appointment confirmation BUT I also know from corresponding with them that they are not following that exact protocol since London went Orange. So now I am emailing them to confirm current protocols because I want to know exactly what to expect.

The problem is that they aren't running their shuttle (due to distancing) and I don't have a second car for Mrs. M can pick me up (Little M has the other car in Ottawa) so I need to wait. But there is some lack of clarity on whether their waiting area is operating.

The sign is stating we won't serve you along with a mocking tone that is the issue.

I didn't read the sign as 'mocking'. The only people here that seem to have had difficulties are those demanding unreasonable accommodations.

I would check with the car place mendalla. We had to take both our cars in. My daughter picked me up for one appointment because it was in Toronto. But the one that was in collingwood was set up with benches outside for you to wait.

See, again, a difference in perspective. You read it as mocking, I read it as "we've been saying this for a year and you're still not listening, so let's try it a bit more firmly". (And my own boss would certainly not allow it on the door. There are reasons I am not rich.) There is a certain parental-type irritation in the tone, for sure. But the people who are generally going to be offended by it are the "fake exemptions" and the "mask-debaters".

And, although we're supposed to be in line to get a curbside pick up service, the area that was cleared for it has been refilled, so I don't know what that means. It's the very smallest of NF, and its structure and age means no real expansion possible. We've already added in one aisle resulting in slightly over-narrow aisles and a couple of awkwardly placed pillars.

Not good. Not good at all. Anyone who thinks is over with the vaccines is fooling themselves. Might as well start getting recurring supply contracts in place for the inevitable updated vaccines in future years.

It really is discouraging to hear about the variants and their potential impact. On the other hand, that's what virusses do. We have annual flu vaccines for that reason.

And that is sort of what Geert Vanden Bosch was saying in the post by Rita on the Covid vaccine thread. He calls it "immune escape".

Maybe it’s a rural thing, like Kay said, but here there are still organizations helping with shopping. And, there always have been housebound alcoholics who sent taxi drivers to the liquor store to get their booze. If it works with booze, it will work with food also.
People who are functionally so limited that they can’t touch their face to put a mask on are very likely to require help to get something out of a shelf. And they would need someone to help them eat. So- can that support system not get groceries? As much as it is freedom to go and pick your food yourself, now is not the time. The same way as we are not going on vacation or moving around to far to keep the numbers down.
In NS, the foodbank has switched to do deliveries during covid.
I could see that people with COPD and a mental health condition on top of that would have trouble wearing masks. It just shows that one need to look out for their neighbour and maybe pick up a couple of things for them.
Neighbours to look out for include the cashier in the store.

We have a regular customer, on oxygen, uses a scooter with his O2 tank in the basket. A simple surgical mask pretty well covering the necessary except for a litle gap in the bottom for the hose. It was his appearance, and not a word from anyone, that changed the attitude of one young woman who was previously very non-compliant.

How far do you go with that though?
Sure, we can help one another out, but I think it's also important we don't ban people from being served by businesses due to health issues/disabilities when there are reasonable ways to serve them. People are being allowed to eat with others, someone keeping distance and shopping isn't going to be a huge step up with risk.

It depends on the ventilation in that place and if the new variants are present. I haven’t seen people keeping 6 ft in stores- and certainly not at the cashier to the employee.
