He's settled into watching an old movie "bridge over the river kwai", youngest is reading, as am I.
Where did you find Bridge Over the River Kwai? I had it on my mental list of movies I wanted my kids to see but never found it. I thought they should see The Dambusters too - same difficulty.

I would not be surprised if there weren't a copy of that somewhere here in my house. My old guy might have made one for my Dad, or something. If I ever find it, I'll forward it. It was a favourite of my parents' and I've seen it, probably only once.

I think that too much of the horror of war is hidden from recent generations. I am younger, but my parents were older, and I have a lot of older friends, often English. My Dad served in the Indian Army from 39-46, entering as a 17 year old.

There is war today, of course, but it is conducted by "the armed forces", "elsewhere" and any civilians affected aren't North American, and the combatants who return with severe PTSD from the whole thing are buried among the homeless, the addicted, the needlessly, mindlessly violent.

We had good dinners here. Small Ukrainian meal on the 24th, with meatballs and then turkey breasts on the 25th with Yorkshire pudding because I found out I can. Have been zooming/phoning quite a bit this week.

Good morning! As we converse over fabric arts, and ponder the quirkiness of parcel delivery, let us join at the cart, where warming beverages await to help us start the day. (Written under the influence of Secret Santa thread)

Happy Tuesday to you, too!
I am bringing all kinds of sweets into the room where they magically loose the calories on entering.
I am getting the plumber today to fix a dripping tub faucet. Looked it up on youtube, took my faucet apart to find out that it doesn’t look the same- well, time for the plumber before I do something that I can’t fix and requires to shut off the water for days.

Good morning, all! 2 days left to get those resolutions in order! The cart is ready, bringing the assistance of warm beveraes to such important undertakings.

I'm going to enter a non-fiction writing contest. I did it once before with no results other than constant notifications about other upcoming contests. I don't expect any kind of a win...I'm not as gifted as Mendalla. But this became a bee in my bonnet once I thought of the idea, so I kind of had to write it today. Deadline is tomorrow! I'll let it sit for a few hours and then check spelling, grammar etc. The first one I put into a contest was called "The Kittens in the Wall', a true story about how we rescued kittens that had been hidden by their mother in a hollow wall in the middle of our barn. The entrance was a small hole near the ceiling. When the mother cat disappeared (car? bobcat? who knows?) my dad was content to let them go the way of nature, and not survive. I was not. So I had to develop some ingenuity that could not result in simply cutting a hole in the wall. It was a story I often told my primary students in my teaching days, and they were a most appreciative audience. I guess my writing ability for a contest did not equal my telling ability for 6-year-olds. Still...I was glad I had tried. As I will be when I send off my latest effort.

Oh, it's starting raining! Just as my mate told me he was heading out to clear the snow. Boots on, boots off.
We did our first jigsaw puzzle of the season yesterday afternoon. A good "warm-up" to tackling the big stack of puzzles we have accumulated to get us through the winter :-)

Love the kitten story @Nancy! Good luck with your 'cogitating' on your new one!

Yay, another writer! :D

I haven't really done much non-fiction. Keep thinking some of my longer posts here should go in a blog or something but haven't got there, yet.

Best practice right here. Depending on the length and any deadlines, I let stories "stew" for a couple hours to a couple days after I think I am finished. Usually when I go back, I'll find stuff that needs to be fixed or even some rewrites.

Good morning. all, let us salute the ending of this year with warming beverages. The cart stands ready. Feel free to discuss whay good or not so good things you'll remember this year for.

It is a white wash here ... perhaps a snow job to keep us enthralled by the mystique! What cover stories will we get now?

If power is released as desire ... we may become un's crewed ... nd if looking into the vessel ... there could be something at the bottom of it ... bilge ess ... careful of stinking phantoms!

@KayTheCurler -- sorry for the delay in reponse. My husband noticed it and wished it recorded it from the tv. We have bell satellite, and have a few movie channels. it was on one of them.

Happy New Year! :coffee: May this year be better than last year. To get this January 1 off to a good start, the coffee cart is ready for you. Enjoy!

Is there any strange essence in the coffee ... vegetable juices from particular shrubs and bushes? The whine goes on until bunged ... Exclusion Theory!
