Numbers in NS are still low (59 now) and declining, but we have had a couple of cases in schools and six cases in a chicken plant in the town where junior and my best friends live.
I usually go to one friends house for Christmas day and the other for boxing day. There also would be other friends , but less than the 10 people presently allowed in NS. However, I have decided to skip all of Christmas on the actual days. Will do an early Christmasdinner with junior and GF on Sunday. I have to work half of Christmas eve and full on Boxing day anyway. Will find time to drop off gifts in the driveway. Just saw no sense in getting together with other friends of my friend who I only meet on Holidays. Keeping the circle small. Then there is skype. With Germany in full lockdown, my mother will probably appreciate a daily skype.

Good morning! The coffee cart stands ready. As we re-shape plans for the holiday season, let us gather in spirit for warm beverages and conversation, consolation and commiseration.

cute cookies, @GeoFee . You should pop into the Christmas Baking thread and tell us about them.

Thanks for sharing.

It's a gray day in S. ontario, but, I have CBC radio on, and am making mincemeat tarts, so, remembering my mom, and channeling my sister, and that is good.

Well, until this morning, I was pretty convinced that I'd managed to duck out of making a Christmas dinner for the first time in approximately forever. I had plans of ordering Chinese food, actually.

Then I got an e-mail from youngest sister. *sigh* Now, I'm doing Christmas dinner, and that means I probably should make an attempt at cleaning and decorating...

In BC were are strongly encouraged to do gatherings only with our household. Exceptions are made for those who live alone. So my youngest and I will join my oldest in Kelowna.

We are getting snow! Drive carefully all my area folks

we are just hubby and me for Christmas dinner. Never before have I made dinner for just two. Funny. When we were first married we went to our parents. If I was off work. And eventually went with little kiddies. And then family at home with grandparents visiting us. then eventually just us four, then significant others added in. But now it’s just two. Kind of sad. But , it’s one meal and one year!

We will probably be just the two of us. If we join anyone it will be my sister and her husband.

In Ontario, those who live alone, whatever colour zone they are in, may have one other person in their bubble. Sister's 'guy'/roommate is going to his family's in Ottawa for the holidays, and she wishes not to go. I'm probably safer with her than with my daughter, lol.

Nice you can get together . I see you guys moved into red. Collingwood is the same county though I am Grey Bruce county. God it will be nice when we get out of this. Summer? At least in the summer it is easy to chat to people on your patio

Yes, and I don't know how the next two weeks will go at work. The franchise owner has got the store open every day 8 a.m. - 9 p.m. (long hours for a little No Frills at the edge of town), and there's enough front end staff to make sure that all 7 lanes are open for almost all of that time. But the increased volume per grocery order at this time of year just takes longer and how much are we going to want to insist customers stand in line outside in the cold in order to keep the numbers down inside the store. I'm not worried at all about January...

Also, who decided that the LCBO should close Mondays? I wanted spiced rum for my eggnog today...

Living across from the LCBO we certainly welcomed the Monday closure! Amazing how many cars still show on Mondays tho.

I do agree! Nevertheless a friend &her dtr came by for tea on the porch today - we were all bundled in warm clothing, wrapped with blankets and had mugs of hot tea. My 'winter windbreak' was doing a pretty good job of keeping us out of the wind at least. And the sun came out too for a while!

Our grocery store moved the carts outside and now we line up inside. They made two aisles with plastic between, so you walk through the aisles to get to a clean cart. Pretty smart idea

but I agree about the orders. I try to shop every ten days to two weeks. So it is a massive cart of food when I check out.

Only two Covid cases here at the moment. We have been very lucky, and we are a border city. Today is a very sluggish day for me. The hip pain has been worse, but so too have I been suffering from overall body aches. I am wondering if my rheumatologist appointment on Wednesday will enlighten me about all this pain. Recalling the good old days when I could walk, put on socks, walk up and down stairs with less pain, and get into a car without little shrieks of pain. I got old real fast. Appreciate being able to go for walks, folks! I miss it.

Some days, I swear, I have the world's not-brightest dog.

She has a favourite toy, which, when she can find it, she brings to me often to "play". However, "play" for her is either "a tug" or a throw and "fetch". The "tug" is only successful if she'll let me get near her, the "fetch" is only useful if she actually retrieves. We're at a plateau'd 33% (best) at both of those games...

Aw, lastpoint, the changes in family makeup as time goes by.

I went from being single and usually a guest of another family, to sharing our first Christmas as a couple with our newborn son. Actually he and I can from the hospital on Christmas Eve. The toddler the following year; then two little ones around the tree for the next few years with occasional guests of friends and family. And all too soon they were more interested in friends, but often on Christmas we would be hanging extra stockings for special friends and then spouses followed by grandchildren. And pets. Of course

This year as I got out Christmas ornaments. I found that I had eight stockings to hang – and just the two of us to look for Santa on Christmas morning. Oh dear, those empty stockings.
But Seelergirl just mentioned the grandson now has a girlfriend who is at their house often enough to be considered family. So one Christmas stocking go out to Seelergirl's place.

Good morning! Still too dark to see what is going on out there, but in about a week, that trend should change. As we think about old Christmas items that can be given new purpose and use, let us also remember the renewal that goes n inside and outside. (OK, it made sense while I was typing it....)
Anyway, water is hot and coffee is ready. Come and get it.
