For the long term, down the road we should be watching Norway....next to the USA it is the second largest food exporter in the world. Yes a small, cold country has used innovation to feed the world. This includes tomatoes, lettuce and even bananas!
The Netherlands, you mean. I would say “ sustainable” is the key word here. Also remember they were using bicycles for a very long time. They know how to be efficient. Maybe because they created much of their country from dyking it off the ocean.

They could transfer trailers at the border and drivers stay in their own country. But truck drivers usually don’t do a lot of socializing. Get the job over and get home as fast as you can.
This province's communities are too far from the border to deliver and return. It could easily take 12 hours or more to drive one way.

I think Pontifex was suggesting the American drivers just drive as far the border and unhitch the trailer and then attach it to a Canadian truck with a Canadian driver and the American goes back over the border with his truck and another empty trailer.

Very disappointed with the update today. I thought something new would be put into place, I thought maybe with all the other provinces having masking laws now we could be the straggler this week. Nope. Let's think of the children was the message, along with the operator dropping out a few times.

Still no mask requirements in Alberta? And is "let's think of the children" code for "they're more important than the seniors" or "with no daycare/school, economy doesn't do well"?

Nope, just the municipality bylaws.
It is international children's day. Thinking of them does include things like let's do things to get this under control so they can hug grandparents soon, have their usual activities, etc. Major disappointment though considering what could be done to get numbers under control and hasn't.
I did notice Dr. Hinshaw's tone has changed this week. Her frustration is showing, her patience is wearing thinner.

I spoke with my MLA today, but what more can be done when he's already been pushing for many of the same things I want?

A friend of mine just told me that one of her former colleagues in Germany who worked in a group home was found dead. They had two covid cases in their work place and she was home isolating since Friday. On Tuesday a friend could not get ahold of her and they sent the cops to her door. She was 44, obese with diabetes.
That is sad Mrs Anteater.

Think only of the children and the ancient can be forgotten as past ... thus history becomes a farce Ide tous! Aulde hack ...

I'm feeling pretty helpless watching the numbers this past month. They didn't need to be this high. We had pretty good control early - minus problematic areas like what happened with the meat packing plant. Now it's everywhere because we have a leader who seems to only want to consider immediate death counts. I can actually understand that if it was the only issue. The restrictions in April did have a pretty large impact. Covid deaths aren't the only thing to consider though. I wonder if we're too far gone now to avoid major issues.

I worry too @ChemGal. Our hospital had a small outbreak in the department next to where I go once a month. That was close to home. Our numbers are raising and so are the number of conspiracies. I have no patience for those. I'll be glad when this is over. Stay well ChemGal. You're in a scarier spot.

I am mad we got to this point , again and now worse

trudeau is back in his cottage telling us to behave. And it still goes on and on

and now the holidays are around the corner. My kids both live in Toronto. On lock down until dec 21. So we have made the decision that we won’t get together at all. We will drive to the city to deliver gifts and maybe walk in the park. And zoom on the 25th. Not quite the Christmas we had hoped for

anyone else started to change plans? I read on the weekend that Atlantic province universities are suggesting students don’t go home for the break. They will have to quarantine to return. Which is impossible in a residence. Yikes

From when? Last December? Sure, not what I expected although I didn't have hard plans for this year. Last May, this wasn't unexpected to me in terms of what I needed to do. I expected fluctuations of restrictions based on numbers and things are far looser than I expected considering the current situation.
I was preparing for a fairly isolated winter during the summer. We also went with some risks that in isolation where higher than I was super comfortable with, but it was in preparation for not seeing people when things were worse and harder to visit outside..

We did cancel on the poodle visit for now. We're just going to go ahead with a deposit and hopefully numbers will lower so I feel more comfortable doing a visit - she does have a mask policy.

We lost a local person a few days ago. neither of us knew him on a personal level but recognised his photo.

Basically staying home. Not planning to see any family at Christmas time.
