Novel Coronavirus

I've looked at this from both sides now and I am resolved:

I will no longer participate in entertaining superstitious, pseudo-scientific propositions that this is the only disease in history that needed a politician-imposed lockdown to abate.

I have not been convinced that politicians have the power to stop death.

Standing firmly on this foundation of scientific truth, I am at peace, realizing that so called COVID-19, like every disease in history, will infect a certain number of people, kill a minute percentage of them, and then move along, lockdown or no lockdown.

To continue to 'believe' the lockdown myth, we are avoiding the responsibility to manage this virus the way intelligent societies always have, by permitting medical professionals to treat sick people as individuals, one ailment at a time. One cannot merely unleash a total state on the whole of society–even on nearly the entire planet–in a futile effort to scare the virus into going away.

“The danger to society is not merely that it should 'believe' wrong things, though that is great enough; but that it should become credulous, and lose the habit of testing things and inquiring into them; for then it must sink back into savagery.” ~ William Kingdon Clifford

Not really a good plan, I am afraid. Recent research pretty much rules out gaiters and bandanas as COVID masks.

It may depend on how it's designed though. I think if designed as a non-medical mask a gaiter could work well. Fleece isn't exactly something that blocks airflow either.

Dr Dolores Cahill Speech in Dublin Destroys Gov’t Argument for COVID Lockdown, Masks and Vaccines

August 24, 2020 By NEWS WIRE 6 Comments
Since the onset of the COVID crisis, one of the most censored people on social media has been Dr. Dolores Cahill from Ireland – targeted by corporate censors at Silicon Valley firms like YouTube and Google, and automatically flagged by the automated ‘fact checker’ censorship feature on Facebook. So-called ‘third party fact-checkers’ from mainstream corporate media outlets like USA Today, AFP, Science Feedback – claim to know more about biological science than Dr. Cahill, and they believe they are entitled to shutdown her views and opinions aired on social media platforms.

Her qualifications: Dr Dolores Cahill is a molecular biologist and immunologist, specialising in early diagnosis of diseases, research integrity, and looking at the impacts of government policy in science, innovation, education, as well as on public health of society. She has been a science professor for 15 years – most recently with University College Dublin, and has served for 10 years government advisory science council, and 15 years as an EU expert advisor.
This past weekend, Dolores Cahill spoke to thousands of people gathered in the Ireland’s capital city of Dublin for “Time For Change” Against Oppressive Government Restrictions and Mandates, with crowds assembling in peaceful protest against the Irish government’s COVID lockdown policies. This was the second anti-lockdown rally held in Dublin since the beginning of the crisis in Ireland. Thousands gathered to protested against new government mandates, lack of transparency in their own reporting, proportionality of policy decisions, and the lack of government accountability, their cadre of science advisors and public health officials. Cahill addressed the crowd on issues of government liability for its policies based on misinformation, and constitutional rights violations based on unscientific findings leading to unwarranted lockdowns, social distancing, school closures, masks, and vaccines.
“As doctors, scientists and in public health , we all and the govt and pol public we s have a duty to look at the harm, as well as the benefits of everything that they implement, and what they are doing is not considering the harm from the lockdown, versus the deaths associated with COVID-19 and this is wrong,” said Dr Cahill to crowd gathered at Custom House in Dublin’s city centre.

This is not the only disease in history that required quarantines and such. Heck, when we were kids people were quarantined to their homes for illnesses such as measles or scarlet fever. Quarantines and lockdowns were used for the flu 100 years ago. These measures have been used many times throughout history, and in some cases weren't the worst government interventions.

Either way ... it is a non-medical fashion fad ... nothing more ... nothing less.

Okay Rita, we get it, you won't wear a mask and you don't think gov't should be involved.
I don't think anyone here has been convinced except yourself..
Fortunately ... I am not responsible for convincing anyone other than myself. I have done my own due diligence and I am good with that.

Here is my mask. Not overly restricting. Babes love it.

I was in superstore today. Hamburger @ $1.49/lb.

The cashier seemed kind of bored in her little plexiglass aquarium. I held my card up for her to shoot and then suddenly got the urge to move it around. She looked like she was playing Nintendo duck hunt.

I have done my research ... you have ignored and mocked it. I will post information as I find it and anyone interested enough can consider it as they will or not.

Well what you have posted as consequences are not what is actually happening here.

Sorry my dear Canuck friends but methinks you're missing what this thread is REALLY about........

But surely, you reply, it's about the freedom to choose not to wear a mask?

Not about masks, not about authoritarian regimes - this thread is about Ritafee.

If you choose to scroll backwards you will see that Ritafree sets the agenda. She gives some deliberately selected anecdotal evidence to back her claims -and like ducks to water, you splash about in her pond, trying to install rational debate.. Waddle out of her pool, splash yourselves off, and leave her be.

There are times when the police use unnecessary violence -this is both wrong - but also understandable. If someone was thrusting a sign in my face and screaming abuse I might just lose my temper and use violence. It would be both wrong behaviour, but in common with being a human under stress and strain.

To understand the multi-faceted nuances requires both a sense of fairness and cognitive dissonance. it is okay to actually have conflicting views about how one views the police force, governments, the health service, etc, etc.... But to do so, requires the ability to see ourselves and our nearest and dearest, as neither black or white, but shades of grey.

In case anyone is interested, the rest of Oz is pleased to see that these draconian, authoritarian, methods are showing pleasing results finally.

Thanks for the wake-up call Pilgrim. You are of course right. We don't need to feed trolls.

In case anyone is interested, the rest of Oz is pleased to see that these draconian, authoritarian, methods are showing pleasing results finally.

That's good to learn. Those authoritarian measures weren't put into place without reason. They are also temporary.

And as Rita has posted elsewhere, she's somewhat stressed.

I still say that the only people who are entitled to make final judgments on other country's policies are....the citizens of those countries. We should decide if we are pleased with Canadian/provincial reactions, and to a VERY limited extent (because of a huge, common, largely undefended and unpatrolled border), what's going on in the U.S.
