My older sister is out there and wonders when we'll ever see one another again ...
 
Interesting article in TorStar this morning re testing - I don't see it online yet - maybe tomorrow? (BTW TorStar is making all its COVID stories freely available). It commented that there is potential for many false negative tests in those who are asymptomatic - not yet showing enough activity to be picked up on tests, but a few days later could test positive. They also explained some of the equipment, reagents, & staff expertise presently required to do testing. It will be interesting to see how the newer on-site testing method will affect testing #s.

Yet still so much taboo on unknowns ... things to be questioned but not allowed ... for sacred strategic reasons ...

I also heard that the throat swabs were also giving alot of false negatives as opposed to the nasal swabs which were much more reliable.
Also there is a difference between asymptomatic and presymtomatic.
 
They (Ontario) are apparently now only doing nasal swabs - d/c'd the throat swabs - so there are half the swabs to be processed.

It is indeed a horrendous situation in that Mtl seniors residence. I hope there will be lots of reflection in the future about how our LTC facilities are staffed etc. Lots mainly employ part time staff - it's cheaper - and so staff work in multiple locations. Fair wages are a widespread issue.

I would point out that the Pinecrest in Bobcaygeon is almost as bad in terms of Covid deaths and isn't getting anywhere near the focus. I understand there are concerns about its operations, too.

Home care is like that, too. The home care company I used to work for was bringing in benefits for part-time staff who worked a certain number of hours and agreed to only work for them. So many were casual and working for multiple companies that they were having trouble filling shifts and meeting goals for continuity of care (i.e. making sure a patient was always seen by the same person, or as few different people as possible). Not sure where that went after we sold them.

Yet there is this attitude about ancient things and staying in the present! It is the gift of isolation and wall building ... that can be disruptive to the entire integral!

After that I lost IT ... like the POTUS' statements about Obama-Biden secrets ... for a man that claims to not read ... how would he know how to read minds. We have copies of this ideal all around us as Y*ass m'n ... with some parts up the but, but ...

When it is time to leave this mother mire ... I hope to be shot quickly into the beyond knowing state! Opiates? Perhaps ... doctor doesn't like me consuming my beer and other salicylate sources that are the best anti inflammatories for my personal being ... opiates from Ohma?

Alas we are directed to say nothing of that sort publically! Imagine people being stunned at the end as a contrast to normal ...
 
I saw a rat cross my street at about 9 pm the other night. At first glance it was lighter than a squirrel, not bushy, too small to be a cat...? I realized was a rat! In a reasonably tidy residential neighbourhood.

I know they're always potentially around, but with so many restaurants closed they're migrating away from commercial areas in greater numbers.

Rats! COVID-19 is bringing another problem to Canadian streets

The closures of restaurants and other businesses have resulted in less garbage being left on the streets and in dumpsters, removing the major source of food for rodents and forcing them to look elsewhere for scraps.

So then, potentially we have to worry about hantavirus (or keep an eye out for pests that carry it) while we're inside hiding from covid! That would be a nightmare for me. Well, at least I'm diligently disinfecting already, in case there are any rodents around. There are 3 cats upstairs that are not allowed in the suite (my step brother's rule because they pee where they're not supposed to - they're his wife's cats - he's not terribly fond of their behaviour, it's almost feral) - but maybe I could borrow them if it came to that. I haven't seen any evidence of rodents indoors and I hope it stays that way.

I wonder if that's happened during previous plagues...where there ended up being dual plagues...in places like old London.

I think the rat patrol would be considered essential. So hopefully they won't become an issue here.

That's odd for cats. As long as they have a place to bury their leavings of both types, they'll usually use it.

Of course, bubonic plague (aka Black Death) was actually spread by rats in the first place (or, more properly, fleas that live on them, the rats are just carriers).
