I really appreciate these two today - I particularly like Henry's common sense approach and explanations.

She also cautioned people from jumping to criticize others who spend time outdoors.

So sorry to hear this Pontifex, sending you a HUGE hug....and saying a prayer for your MIL.My aunt died, said to be covid. She got in hospital while there on unrelated issue. MIL still in hospital. I had been thinking that may be a pretty safe place because they are well trained in breaking transmission chain.
Condolences and courage to you and your family! My aunt died, said to be covid. She got in hospital while there on unrelated issue. MIL still in hospital. I had been thinking that may be a pretty safe place because they are well trained in breaking transmission chain.
I agree. At my last job before I retired, I was working (as a computer programmer) for a branch of the provincial government that handled labour complaints from workers who were not unionized.Correct. Maybe we have to re-evaluate the worth of certain positions in our economy/society. Also the place (nowhere from my position but I might be open to argument) for a profit motive in eldercare.
The park closures are the standard policy in the US and Europe too. Many people are quite puzzled by it. Perhaps they fear that too many people would go to the parks, and it would become as bad as an indoor gathering place?I saw an example of judging in media today. One of the local media outlets posted some photos of a local park. They spoke of how it's possible to go for a walk there and still maintain a distance. At least one person condemned this and said we should only be walking around our backyards. That kind of sanctimonious attitude and judging is one thing I dislike about this.
Sorry to hear this, Pontifex. The hospitals are pretty good at breaking transmission chains but this Covid virus it really hard to control. It is extremely infectious. I’m at the point where I would avoid hospitals as much as I could. I know of pregnant women fearing to go there for childbirth yet uncomfortable about home delivery. My aunt died, said to be covid. She got in hospital while there on unrelated issue. MIL still in hospital. I had been thinking that may be a pretty safe place because they are well trained in breaking transmission chain.
Some places are really showing their authoritarian streak, other places are resisting it while still being sensible. The park closures are the standard policy in the US and Europe too. One person, who is also monitoring the economy suggested it might be a wish to prevent large outdoor groups from forming, who might then protest or riot. It must be a very bad time for those who have lost their income, and there’s plenty of them.
I don’t know what to think.
