Steven Booth stopped by today to say hi and left a few messages on my profile page along with this sad observation:

i do find it sad when i see the same people (pretending?) to struggle to understand the same things for many many years and are in same spot. UCCan trait?

And would you say you and/ or Steven Booth have moved off your "same spot" over the past few years?

Yes,
I try to move closer to Jesus every day.
I can see lots of people staring off into space saying they are searching for Jesus, and I can tell they know where he is, because they only show their back to him.

A worthy endeavor.
Yes, and here is an example:
Miracles, you don't get because you don't ask. That is scripture.

But lots of people don't seem to like the idea of a God who answers prayer, so they don't pray and they don't get. What you loose on earth will be loosed in Heaven... La La La. Nothing happens, to be expected.

But that is not who God is. If you want to know God, you take the time to learn. God likes to give to his kids like I like to give to my kids. God answers prayers.

If your God does not, you have your back pointed directly at God. And there is 0 percent chance you will ever see him.

And I am not speaking of you, particularly. You have displayed quite a bit of insight during your bible study. I wish I had more time to keep up with some of this.

Pontifex Geronimo 13 ---your quote ----Pretty much anybody’s testimony of being baptized by the Holy Spirit includes being healed or made new.
It’s part of the package.

Sounds like a few people may think that by saying your sins are forgiven, Jesus was only going to forgive his sins and not heal him. That is not what the scripture says.

Get up and walk and your sins are forgiven both mean the same thing.

So is having your demons cast out for that matter.

Summary: Luke 5: 27 - 32

Jesus goes out and sees Levi, a tax collector, sitting at his booth. "Follow me," says Jesus. Levi gets up, leaves everything and follows. Levi gives a great banquet for Jesus at his house with many tax collectors and others present.

The Pharisees and their scribes complain to His disciples, saying, "Why do you eat with tax collectors and sinners?"

Jesus answers, "Those who are well have no need of a physician but those who are sick. I have come not to call the righteous but sinners to repentance."

Reflection: Luke 5: 27 - 32

This short story also appears in Matthew and Mark. Only Luke specifically tells us the dinner was given in Jesus' honor and calls it a banquet. The three accounts are otherwise similar. After the comment about only the sick needing a physician, Matthew has Jesus saying, "Go and learn what this means: I desire mercy and not sacrifice."

I wonder what Jesus thought of the "righteous" of His day. Did he hold them in esteem or not?

Who are the "righteous" in today's world? How is this story relevant to us today?

Jesus is dining with people whom the "righteous" would shun; those who didn't observe the law in all its minutiae; those who, like the tax collector, actually worked with/for the Romans. He's treating them as (gasp) human beings! Sharing a meal as though they were actual family!! (Swoon)

Jesus is crossing lines and breaking boundaries that the 'righteous' would never have approached. For this, they considered him 'bad'.

Interesting through the ages how the 'righteous' (or, maybe more accurately, 'self-righteous') have always reacted badly to how their perceptions of 'good and not good' have been taken apart.

Yes, I was considering the difference between righteous and self-righteous when I read the text earlier this morning.

In Luke 1, Elizabeth and Zechariah were said to be "righteous before God" and this was presented as a positive thing. Here in today's text, being righteous seems to be somewhat questionable.

This passage speaks to me of sinners being fully human and authentic as they dine with Jesus. The text tells us these sinners were called to repentance and so are we.

Not in my belief system. Only Jesus makes one righteous.
No such thing as a righteous Jew in your mind, then? Or a righteous adherent of any other world faith or philosophy?

I always find it interesting that Judaism acknowledges righteous Gentiles.

Thoughts on Luke 5:27-32...

On his way to the seashore, Jesus passed by Levi's booth. By design, Jesus' eyes rested upon the man busy with his calling's business.

Levi had heard of Jesus because he'd attended some of his talks in Capernaum.

Jesus invited, "Follow Me!" Jesus' word being powerful, Levi's future business was decided.

He left all behind, he turned his back upon his former life with its associations, and followed Jesus. In his heart's thankfulness, Levi now made a feast for Jesus.

It was a feast in his home. The guests, outside of Jesus and his missionaries, were publicans and others. And they knew and loved the shameful person's Savior. They were thankful to Levi for giving them the chance to see Jesus.

That Jesus accepted the invitation offended the scribes and Pharisees. The Jewish Church leaders expressed their disapproval of the affair by remarking to Jesus' missionaries, "Why do you eat with publicans and sinners?"

The question's point was directed against Jesus. He answered for his missionaries, by stating a proverb's form that it's the sick who need a doctor. And he explains the proverb for them, "I came to call sinners to repentance."

☆ Jesus' the soul-doctor; shame's a soul-disease; Jesus came to cure people of this disease; he implies that those that believed themselves to be well had no need of his services on account of that opinion. ☆

Those that cared nothing for Jesus, he calls healthy, because they felt no need of him. Only they that know their shamefulness know that they've part in Jesus. If we rely upon the truth that God's merciful, then we can be saved feom shame.

unsafe says ---God is there for all people not just the Righteous ----God never abandons us ----It is Us to Turn our backs on God ----- and Jesus is showing this in this Chapter of Luke over and over again -----The Pharisees scribes THINK they are the righteous but Jesus is saying ---Hold on there you who think your all that I will show you different -------The Pharisees and scribes are a perfect example of Showing they honor God with their lips but their Hearts are in fact Away from God ---they refuse to believe who He is and why He has been sent -----They themselves turned their backs Toward God -----God in His Love and Mercy and Grace keeps trying to show them their wrong way of thinking ------

Quote from post 490 ------ Who are the "righteous" in today's world?

unsafe says -----The Righteous are the people who have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit today ------that is Jesus is their Lord and Saviour by and through His Saving Grace which comes though dynamic---Saving Faith that the believers have from hearing and believing in His Word -----

unsafe says -----We have God's word which is available to us which provides us with Bible Faith needed to be Saved and as Pontifex Geronimo 13 has pointed out in post 486--------. If you want to know God, you take the time to learn.

unsafe says -----We Have to Have a Hunger and Thirst to Feed on God's Word which inbirths the right Faith ------Without Bible Faith you cannot Please God ---and that is scriptural ------
