Checking out the news this morning I'm a bit surprised not too see anything on the national section, need to go to the local sections for the bombings in one of the bedroom communities here. 2 bombs set off in a parkade, the 2nd after the police already took away a suspect who died of a self inflicted gunshot. This happened 2 nights ago, but no information was really available until yesterday afternoon - the update on the noon news from the RCMP really said nothing.
It happened at a community center that includes a library and civic offices.
The area is still closed including 2 schools. I think they are still checking for bombs.
 
Tragic - I had not heard about it here; did hear about the club shooting in the USA. So concerning ... we seem to be on such a slide into I don't know what.

At least it doesn't sound like anyone else has been hurt. So while he inconvenienced others and certainly created an unsafe situation he didn't injure anyone else.
 
Spent time at Five Oaks this afternoon. I am closer. It was close to 20min to get home. Thinking shortest it will be is 15min, but, that is still good. Nice drive.

I am enjoying having a kitchen and access to ingredients (our previous kitchen was crammed. Though ok to cook in from a layout standpoint, food products tended to get shoved into high cupboards or bethind stuff, and get lost) . Having fun figuring out recipes to "use up" stuff that I have doubles of in the cupboard.

Not far from there. I don't think I've seen those ships. I'll look. We did see a tugboat coralling logs.

I've seen them come into the mouth of Ladysmith Harbour...hovering around the end of the penninsula of where the Chemainus Reservation is...

This is what they r like. The are GIGANTIC.
They surround the boat with a few tugs that have lines between them so that when the logs slip out they can all b caught. The tugs are sooooo teeny compared to the log ship...they move around in some kind of dance...I would get seasick on those lol

First granddaughter day in the new house. Light snow outside. Youngestson stayed at old house last night. We had left a bed there for such events. Husband going " into town" shortly.

Soon I will have to get back to consulting and other activities, but loving this day with these folks
 
Met one of our neighbours yesterday. Nice guy. He was working on the yard, and I sense he will be a good neighbour, wanting to work together on projects along the road (need to clean a bit of the scrub out so that we can see better when turning onto the road.

One thing interesting is that he warned us about coyotes. Shouldn't leave dog out unattended, etc.
That is a new item for us.

They seem to be becoming more prevalent in Southern Ontario. I read somewhere that the Eastern species is on the decline and being replaced by the Western one. We have coyote warnings up in the valley West of our neighbourhood now and there's really nothing stopping them from coming up into the neighbourhood. There are numerous access paths from the neighbourhood into the valley and deer come up into the neighbourhood fairly regularly. I found half a rabbit in my yard once and was thinking bird of prey (plenty of hawks around and allegedly owls though I've never seen one) but now I wonder. Don't have pets or young children so not a huge problem for me but there are lots of dogs around here.

So true - we seem to have a LOT of coyote sightings around our urban area. Used to generally be a single one, but now I hear more often about packs of 3 to 8. We are linked to a lot of woodlands, parks, rail corridors, rivers edge woodlands etc. and two large tracts of land (70-100 acres each) along the lakefront are now under development - for sure there were packs of coyotes living there - I would often hear them howling at night as I parked across the road in the shopping centre. It's worriesome for a lot of people with smaller pets & children.
 
That was something we learned of when we came out west. Small pets had predators such as coyotes and eagles. It's weird to think of that being a concern in southern Ontario.
