On another thread some time ago I promised to tel you more about my vacation plans as the time drew nearer. Well, it's time --

Last summer Seelerman and I visited Nova Scotia. A virtual friend invited us to visit her for a night or two. Unfortunately we were unable to wok the visit into our short trip which included Seelergirl and Grandson. Therefore we were delighted to hear from her again this year, inviting us to come this year offering us her home for three weeks while she is away visiting her mother in Germany.
Two weeks from now we start our vacation trip down to the beautiful Annapolis Valley in Nova Scotia where we will live in her home, take care of her cat, water her garden - and pick and eat her spring vegetables - while sight-seeing and perhaps doing some research on Seelerman’s Acadian roots.
So WC messages and e-mails have been flying back and forth as Mrs.Anteater and I make final plans. She has been very thoughtful, inquiring if I have any special needs. Fortunately at this point I don’t. She has also let us know what dishes, pots and pans, and appliances she has - toaster, coffee pot, etc. - that we are welcome to use.
We met Mrs.Anteater in real life once. The summer Pilgrim’s Progress visited eastern Canada, and we gathered at a Halifax restaurant. Since then we have continued to follow each other’s posts on WC and WC2 - virtual friends.
We will meet her again the day before she flies out, and she will show us around the house and give final instructions about the cat. We like cats.
Possibly I won’t be posting very often from Nova Scotia, but don’t worry. I’ll be having a good time and will let you know about it when we get back home.
The cat is looking forward to meeting you, seeler. Don’t worry, I can set you up on my old IPad so you can have Wondercafe with your coffee for breakfast.

Oo, "Wondercafe with your coffee" inspires a wild idea. A Wondercafe2 branded coffee blend. Would have to be organic and fair trade, of course. Wonder if the local roasteries offer custom blends for organizations (Actually, I think Fire-Roasted, my son's old favorite, created one for the CBC when they opened the new London studio)? And who would I get to taste test it since I don't like coffee, even the good stuff?

It would probably end up being expensive, though, even if we sold it at cost as a promo instead of making a profit to use it as a fundraiser.

That's a great idea Mendalla. I'm willing to be the tastetester. I have the credentials, being a barista for Canada's best cafe chain.

WC2 is a not for profit enterprise so I suspect coffee tasters will need to pay for each sip at premium prices.

As I said, we'd probably sell at cost or minimal profit, but I imagine we would get one sample bag to start and distribute that to the tasters gratis in return for their comments.

I probably don't have enough hours in my life to organize this, anyway. Just thinking out loud.

"Gratis?" Okay, sure, if you want to go by amateur opinions.

*snort*

Slinging java at Second Sup doesn't make you a coffee expert any more that working in an LCBO makes you a wine taster.

Yet I and the other professional baristas I work with have been trained, and continue to be so, in being coffee experts. You may not like that Mendalla (that's strange) but it is none the less so.

I'll bet you spent hours learning how to identify different coffees by their origins and carefully sipping them to distinguish the individual notes within their flavours.;)

Our local Justus coffee would do that. They have done one for our local hospital as a fundraiser.

sitting in a University room makes a person intelligent and educated

Worked for me. ;)

Okay, I was already intelligent, I guess. And pretty educated given how much reading on various topics I did as a kid. Really, it should be the other way around. Intelligent people seeking to be educated should be the ones going to university.

Being paid to serve coffee doesn't make a person a coffee expert any more than sitting in a church makes a person Christian, or sitting in a University room makes a person intelligent and educated. .

Hmm... felt this was not to be a negative thread. Felt we were not to come down on others here.

:coffee:

We're trained in grinding coffee, brewing coffee and teas, making specialty coffee and tea beverages, tasting coffee, etc.

And they wonder why I have doubts about professionalism ... and people that feel they are authorities ...

Seems so screwy and seamy ...

Still it is not a thing that the subject is aware of ... objectivity ... that is out there away from the subject ... somewhat beyond them ...
