There is a sadness in the country. A friend of mine who lost her son said to me "I can relate to the loss of a child, I can't even imagine the loss of so many young people all at once. I had support from many people close to me, but how do you support someone facing the same loss at the same time."

Teachers who think of the teachers of this boys.

@Tabitha and other billeters

@KayTheCurler and other people who love those who were first on the scene

Families, friends, those who have lost from other accidents.

All are impacted

There is a real strength that shows up at times like this. Each day brings some people needing support and some people giving it. On lucky occasions they coincide. Almost everyone has an experience of loss to help them through the next one - quickly or slowly, each in their own way. Some fall apart emotionally, some block out the negative feelings until later, some demand support from here, there and everywhere, some attend vigils and memorial events, others grieve in privacy. Some post on FB others turn it off.

All I know for sure is - we will all get through it - somehow - some way - some time.

@Mendalla The BC drug plan only covers testing 1 or 2x a week for type 2 diabetes. fortunatley as I am still working Blue Cross covers 80% of my cost. No sure what their limit is as I am well below it with my testing. My glaucometer was free with the purchase of test strips (and I have replaced it 1x-also free)

A double tragedy. The Labelle and the Tobin players have had a misidentification by the coroners

office. Labelle is alive and Tobin is not. Oh, those poor families. It was reported other way around.

I'm fully covered because Mrs. M's plan. I think the glucometer free thing is just how they do business now. My plan covers one every 5 years and I've never used it. If I don't have a "coupon" for the one I want, the pharmacist usually puts through as a coupon anyhow. :D

I check the ODB formulary and it depends on your diabetes status. If you're on insulin, it's 3000 per year, 400 if you're on a medication with a high risk of hypoglycemia, 200 if on a drug like Metformin that doesn't carry such a risk or if you are just using just diet/lifestyle to treat.

On the one hand, this is the worst time for a mistake like this to happen.

On the other, given the number of deaths, it's probably when it is most likely to happen just by sheer statistical probability.

Sad and difficult for all concerned, though.

This hit me worse than any of the rest of it. I'm praying for those two families specifically on top of my general prayers for all those otherwise affected.

I don't understand all the coverage. Yes, I expect to see things in the news. It seems like every little thing is being reported on though. I just saw this
Paralyzed Broncos defenseman Straschnitzki refuses to give up on hockey dream
If the family wanted to put this out that's one thing, and maybe that's what it is. I get the sense the media is just looking for every possible thing though. Maybe it's just very different personalities but I want to have a change to process things before it gets out to even people I'm fairly close to. I bet many of these guys will go on to do great things, regardless of the amount of change they have to face. I just feel like it's not the time to put these things out there.

If the family gave the interview, then they are good to report it. If the family doesn't want it reported, they should do what some others have done and ask the media to respect their need for privacy in this difficult time ya da ya da. Unlike some elements of the UK and US press, ours seem to still be generally okay with honouring such requests.

So much grief. So many stories. Tonight's news conference - the hospital admin is now telling media to stay away from the hospital, to allow people the privacy they need to attend to their injured family members, for the young men to recover without having microphones and cameras surrounding them. I was glad to hear them taking this stand.

I am disturbed by the overall trend in the media (at least around here) to be interviewing sobbing and grieving people then playing & replaying the snips. Seems just way too intrusive to me.

Yes, that was kind of my point with the above. Sometimes people talk to whoever will listen, not thinking about it really being public. Go ahead and make it easy for people to reach out to the media - have someone pass around contact information, have someone there. Let those who are hurting be the ones to actually reach out with stories though, not for the stories to be requested.

Does anyone remember the days before news channels? When you got your news in one of several satisfactory ways. Via the radio on an hourly basis. That's what I do now. Am I missing any large world crises? I don't think so. Via the "nightly news" - an hour, at 6 or at 10, when you get more detail on the stories you'd heard outlines of on the radio during the day. From a newspaper - in print then (could be on-line now), to get opinions, some of the research behind the stories, more local, or conversely, world, news than you'd get from the radio or your daily 1-hour broadcast. How was that not enough news?

Just can't get my head around using 3000 test strips in a year. 8 pricks everyday? I don't think I could stand it. I am an insulin user and I don't test anywhere near that often.

My latest A1C was 7.2 which is not ideal but still pretty good. The latest thinking is that we should not be getting lows AT ALL & I see no way on my current regime to get the A1C down any further. Without risking more hypoglycemic episodes, I mean.

Have been referred to a specialist for review of my insulin & meds.
