i have family member that will not eat any food that has alcohol in it, cooked or not, not sure if AA requirement or his personal need for slippery slope.

Are they aware that alcohol can be in foods where you wouldn't suspect it? The Chinese use a salted rice wine in a lot of cooking. I know my wife uses it with pork and shrimp a lot.

AA is pretty rigid from a ideological POV. Many AA members would have a problem with a sherry trifle, with the chambord I often drizzle into whipping cream. A majority of AA members take even prescription drug use very carefully, and they largely take a dim view of pot. Funny thing is that I've never met such a bunch with serious tobacco and caffeine issues.

Sort of like sects tarry 'n about a church metaphor ... stopped in mental wonder at the potential ...

I wonder how much of it is the flavour? Like do they take a similar stance with vanilla extract?

Alcohol behaves in cooking much like it does on your skin. There's a substantial immediate evaporation upon exposure to heat. Anything left, even in my trifle, is certainly insignificant enough to intoxicate a person. The theory is that it's enough to tempt a person.

ok folks 3 Tablespoons of tequila for 24 oz. of cabbage-that's the same as 2 bags of the cabbage mix about 10 cups..(except the purple cabbage I cut up)So let's say it fed 24 people-that's 1/8 of a tablespoon each. In reality it adds a flavour that most can't quite place. There is twice as much fresh squeezed lime as Tequila.

I am going to limit my wc2 time. I have accepted the position chairing our ministry unit's governing body. aka I'm chair of the congregation's leadership team. I will pop in from time to time. Wondermail does go to my inbox and if you want to be facebook friends just message me. Wishing everyone well.

We'll miss your contributions a great deal, but I absolutely agree you have to ration your time and energy. You are so sensible, dear Tab. Happy chairing; tis a tiring but often rewarding role.

My doctor's office called today. She wants to see me as a result of some tests I recently had done. They included blood tests, a urine test, and my first-ever EKG.

Saw my doctor today. She told me my blood test and urine test were good. She also told me that my cholesterol is a little too high, so she wants me to watch my diet.

In some ways, I would take high cholesterol over what I have, which is very low total cholesterol but the balance of different types of cholesterol is off. At least with high total cholesterol, it's fairly clear what your target is. HDL:LDL ratio seems to be much fuzzier and it's less clear what affects that balance.

*sigh* I'm currently in doctor avoidance mood, but suspect that this had best not last much longer. I seem to have a couple of odd things going on. *Maybe I'll make an appointment with my DCM and let her decide if I need to incorporate some Western medicine*

That's a good plan Bette. Hope it works out well.
