Thanks Bette. I did bring her to the vet: $215/later (two weeks of LLWL preaching!!!) She has a puncture wound near her tail. If I hadn't been pulling her away, I think the dog would have gone for her neck. It was definitely out for blood, and my dog wasn't even close enough to provide much a a visual at that point. The dog just recognized me (could only see me above the snowbank) and knew that I always came attached to a little dog! I have contacted the Humane Society and they will send someone over to talk to them. As for reimbursement, that is up to me to try to get. Not sure that I'm going to go that route though. I just want the individuals to know that their dog attacked and bit another dog, and that it is on an official record somewhere.
Same thing happened to me about 2 or 3 years ago. Dog (Golden Labrador) jumped the fence and attacked my son's Morkie that we were walking. Our dog received serious injuries.....$5,000 later and he was on the mend. The people paid up in full almost immediately....I think you should ask to be reimbursed and also make sure the attacking dog has their vaccinations up to date.

Glad you went to the vet Nancy. I would present the bill to the owners of the dog that bit. It will make them aware that said dog is causing problems for others-more than just being a nuisance.

I would ask for proof that the attacking dog was up to date on rabies shots, if nothing else. I would give them the bill - and check with the vet to see if it was paid. If not, I would reluctantly pay it.

I paid the bill already...Policy is payment right away at the vet's. But I have the receipt. Still not sure whether I will ask for payment.

Daughter, son-in-law and grandson came for a pizza party the other night. That might not seem like much, but....first time daughter and grandson could come back to Canada since June! Our grandson got out of the car, and ran to meet his neighbourhood friends as they were coming home from school. Suddenly, our yard, and then our house, were full of kids and people. It was lovely.

I woke VERY early this morning. I noticed that it had been snowing overnight here and some other places. A good day to make The Room particularly attractive. I have calorie/allergy free cinnamon buns coming out of the oven any minute. Three loaves of bread are ready to pop in for later. A big pot of tasty chicken soup is simmering and adding a delicious aroma to the air. quilts and prayer shawls are hanging on chair backs - take your pick! Oooops - nearly forgot - fresh brewed coffee available all day and whatever tea you fancy is hot.

A lovely way to start the day - thanks Kay for your blessed presence here with us.

trying to retain the zen of vacation and relax with family.

I have never thought about this before, but - would that be acceptable to AA members?

There are lots of dishes out there containing alcohol (white wine sauces, beer- and whiskey-based BBQ sauces, desserts containing brandy or liqueurs, and so on), so I assume they would have some general stance on cooking with alcohol if they said anything.

The Chinese use a salted rice wine in a lot of dishes, too, as well as "Drunken" marinades based on it. We have a bottle of it on our counter pretty much all the time along with other ingredients.

I think it depends on the person. Ditto for other faiths - some avoid small amounts of alcohol, others are not concerned with it even if they normally abstain.

Actually, now that I think about it, in cooked dishes containing alcohol, the alcohol mostly vaporizes in cooking so maybe Tabitha's dish is a bit different in that the alcohol would still be there.

i have family member that will not eat any food that has alcohol in it, cooked or not, not sure if AA requirement or his personal need for slippery slope.

I know that if taking anything with alcohol, i would want to include a label, as i would for anything with nuts.

Lots of it does stick around even if cooked.
So vanilla extract and similar ingredients could be an issue if one is serious about abstaining from small amounts.
It's also in other foods, but in very small amounts:
