In fairness, Rita, whatever Jae's choice of news sites, this is a real issue. I've seen it reported in other media.

There was a recent row in Quebec about a transgendered woman being elected to head the largest women's rights group in Quebec, with some feminists arguing that someone born a man can't identify with women's issues. A Nigerian feminist named Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie distinguishes between trans-women and other women. Lierre Keith is a radical feminist who believes gender is more of a "caste" than an "identity."

I'm not saying it's a widespread issue, nor am I saying that I agree (I think people should identify as who they believe they are, and I will personally identify someone as who they believe they are) but the sentiment it is out there and I'd also be curious how you respond to those arguments.

PERSONAL UPDATE:
First....my apologies for being inactive here....
My life has been rather busy....
NEWS:
The holiday season was very stressful and the spectre of depression was quite a battle but I won . Also I made important progress with family.
Now the big news....
Feb 14th I am going to Thailand for my SRS.
This is a dream come true that I never imagined would happen.
The psychological effect on me has been profound and much stronger than expected. To realize that soon I will no longer be at war with my body is a powerful thing.
I will keep this thread updated for the purposes of discussion

Allow for some transcendence ... some deny it ... considering ever soul on the earth has some mother and father issues in the genes right down to eternity ... that at either no existent end (ontologically speaking)!

The commandments even ordered us to respect them ... the two parts ... divinity anthropomorphised in means mortals despise? An enigma to be resolved with some emotional intellect? (Daniel Goleman)! It leads to Primal Leadership ... some expect to do this on emotions alone ... yer mother started it with an alien flutter ...

In regards to the battle with feminists of a particular stripe.
Of course! To be expected! Transphobia is deep seated in society and it will rear its ugly head wherever there is strife.
The feminist movement has always been about identity and recognition from a male patriarchy. Of course the identity is going to be a deep sensitive aspect. I have always said that my identity is measured at the bathroom door and this is another example. Here we have cis-gendered women in a deep struggle and then comes along these "men in dresses" claiming to also be women. Further these "man women" begin to take on leadership roles. Once again they see their world being taken back by men. Strife is inevitable and rejection of trans women is a powerful result.
The damage caused by male patriarchy and the myth of the male/female binary is so strong that the movement cannot get past these impediments.
The truth will eventually get through and more and more the movement will realize that their battle is indeed our battle as well.
We are both struggling with our identity and recognition. We are beginning to recognize each other and we will be much stronger for that

Wow Rita that is good news. I look forward to the updates.

As for the feminism/transgender debate, I agree it's old news in many ways. It is also something that will reemerge in different forms. That's human nature. I don't think we need to throw the baby out with the bathwater. I think we can learn to work together. In fact, hasn't that been the solution in some cases?

The Ho O is still nothing and folk get sucked intuit ... causing heaps of word ...

On Valentine's Day, no less. (y) I pray that all goes well for you, Rita, and look forward to hearing more about your journey.

Rita, you are a very brave woman. Thank you for sharing your journey with us.

The battle between rather artificial genders continues. Not sure how to make inroads.

Dig ... have a thought for the alternates! Some sterns are far to shallow ... like botes drawn up on the beaches ... hollow shoes ... from de silvery Zae ... the inside of the Black Cloud Syndrome ... some dark singer of blues and harvest Jazz ... reapers/repairs to rest?

Congratulations on your happy news, Rita! It sounds like your excitement is outweighing any fears or trepidation; it's been a long time coming for you!

Humanity is so screwed up so as to appear in-sane ... and thus in-humane! That crazy mental part that cannot any longer reason on it' s own ...

Thus intelligence is out of sight ...

I contacted Rita privately for guidance regarding a local situation.

She was extremely helpful. She also offered to be in support of my contact.

Thank you Rita for always being there for support and learning.

i fully expect her to fall in love with Thail (and its wonderful views on sex roles culture and etc) and live there full time as a Consultant...probably in one of those artificial solar power trees...she'll be the Glam Granny :3

then online talkshows...Caroline Casey...Dave Rubin...Joe Rogan...her passion cannot be contained
